Square-Enix is releasing FF VII, a beloved classic and full game, as an episodic one. It received critical acclaim and was one of the best-selling games of the year.

Episodic is excellent depending at the release rate. When I was playing TLoU2 that though occurred to me, would rather have it in episodic form, one a week.

I'm sure other than hate boys nobody is going to care if it's episodic or not, if the game is great.

Are you nuts people do care about games being episodic its one of the reason ff7 didn't sell as good as the original game. People wanted a full fledged experience out of the box with a beginning middle and end.

Releasing a game in an episodic format does not automatically make it bad. I’ll reserve my judgment until we actually get official information on it.

Dude just stop ff7 sold over 13 million copies on ps1 thats not counting how much its sold on pc and all those other copies on ps3/ps4/psvita FF7R isn't even in the same ball park for sales and its cuz its episodic its costing tons of sales nobody should ever make episodic games.

Episodic releases aren't innately bad, they can be great. It really comes down to value and timing.

Well, you can have all the talent in the world but if you don't have good managers/leadres with clear direction you will end up with a failure. That has been an issue with Xbox for more than a decade. Money, talent, technology, studios or IPs aren't the problem.

If the parts themselves end up being sizable enough with enough content I don't see a problem. FF7 remake was long enough and had enough content to be considered a full fledged game. It was longer than other games that where 15-20 hours on it's own like Doom and Control, but people bitched and moaned on every forum about it's episodic split. I saw tons of Sony fans saying they wouldn't buy it because it was just one part.

I wouldn't doubt that MS would do this though. Episode format would be spread out over months and keep those gamepass subs from lapsing. It's a smart business move, just like canceling 1 year live subs to make gamepass more appealing.

They didn't really cancel the 1 year XBL subs you just cant get them through the store on the console or on your computer. I still see many places selling the cards for 1 year (Costco, Walmart, etc)

You do know that Gamepass already had episodic games? Each episode is available on Gamepass when released. This makes your claim that you only will have access to part of the game objectively false.

@regnaston: I still see them at the store too. It's just the removal from the store front and leaving the remaining $10 a month, $25 three month passes is to entice consumers to gamepass. If someone just subs every month through the storefront, it's easier to justify $180 a year for GP Ultimate when it's a max of $120 just to play online.

You are still ignoring the fact that all the episodes for episodic games are made available the same day its released on GamePass. Also you ignoring that current episodic games require the gamer to purchase each episode. Yet, you are citing this as a problem with GamePass even though the episodic games in the subscription all comes with the subscription.

Fun fact: Perfect Dark on the Gameboy Color was play in 3rd-person so technically, this wouldn't be the first time this series went 3rd-person. Truth be told, I wouldn't mind it but I do hope it's kept in 1st-person.
