True Achievements: Game Pass loses Quantum Break soon

It appears that Quantum Break's time in Xbox Game Pass is coming to an end. Xbox has updated the 'Leaving soon' section on the Game Pass app, which now includes Remedy's third-person shooter.

What's interesting here is that Quantum Break is published by Xbox Game Studios, and Xbox-published games don't leave the Game Pass library. In an interview withGI.bizin 2018, Remedy stated that Microsoft does own the Quantum Break IP, so we're not 100% sure what's going on. Perhaps the the listing is jut a mistake or there is some other issue here.

Unfortunately, we can't find a date as to when Quantum Break will leave Game Pass. While it's likely the game will stick around for two weeks until April 14th, we have seen some games that are randomly added to the 'Leaving soon' section of the app drop out with hardly any notice at all — looking at you,We Happy Few.

Xbox owns and publishes Quantum Break, yet it's leaving Gamepass. MS has said that Xbox exclusive titles would be on Gamepass permanently so this leaving makes little sense. The only thing I can think of is that there are some licensing issues like what happened with Forza 7.

I imagine it’s some kind of licensing issue no doubt. I enjoyed the game myself but it’s certainly not a needle moving game whether it’s on the service or not.

My guess is that music licensing is the problem and MS couldn't be bothered with negotiating with the music copyrights, and Remedy likes licensed music and has had problems here in the past. Take Alan Wake for example, where their games were pulled from digital stores because of the music copyrights they'd negotiated for music.

Also, Quantum Break is 7yrs old (2016) and that game should be mega cheap to buy for physically and if I remember right, Quantum Break was the first Xbox One game that came to PC on day one along side Xbox One, and boy, it made lemms upset when they couldn't say it's exclusive anymore lol.

Never played it. From reviews back then I remember it sounded like it fit nicely with the "TV TV TV" marketing strategy Xbox was going for xD

Except Quantum Break isn't a movie game. It's a TV game.

QB was a pretty cool game. The game/TV stuff was an odd idea, that got even more odd when they kinda just scrapped the standalone TV stuff before the launch, and just integrated it all into the game as cutscenes. That era of Xbox was completely aimless. And QB is a fun representation of that mess. A mess that’s getting even crazier with QB coming off Game Pass.

As suspected it's licensing but it's a MS owned IP and it's published by MS.

They've made the claim 1st party games will not be pulled from GP.

It is. Microsoft fully owns the IP. MS considers any game IPs they own as first party, similar to Age of Empires and MS Flight Simulator.

to clarify, in terms of "1st party", I was referring to games developed by Xbox Games Studios (or another Microsoft/Xbox owned studio).. i beleive that's what Microsoft was referring to in regard to titles that would remain in Game Pass.. Microsoft doesn't own Remedy for example..

though i do see how the lines are blurred with Microsoft owned IPs that are developed by another party..

at any rate, Quantum Break is remaining in Game Pass so it's still a non-issue..
