Hello, recently picked up a TurboGrafx-16 Mini which is chalk to the brim of shoot 'em ups, aside from rekindling a love of the genre, it also reaffirmed that R-Type was indeed, the shit.

It's a genre not really spoken about much now or really all that acknowledged, even though they are still being pumped out from various sources.

Top 10? Or 5 if you can't think of 10. Or just ones you like, whatever.

As much as I love R-Type series back in the day, I recently reinstall Redux: Dark Matters which is a tribute to the R-Type and I find Redux more fun then R-Type but anyway, hard for me to say my top 10 shmups are but hey, you can't go wrong with those Touhou games. (Not in this order)

  1. Redux: Dark Matters
  2. R-Type Final
  3. Touhou games
  4. Crimzon Clover: World Ignition (this game is actually fun in my opinion)
  5. Jamestown

At the top of my head:

  1. MUSHA
  2. Galactic Attack
  3. DoDonPachi Resurrection
  4. Mushihimesama
  5. Thunder Force IV
  6. Thunder Force III
  7. Battle Mania Daiginjou
  8. Gley Lancer
  9. Robo Aleste
  10. Raiden IV

So basically I'm a fan of Aleste, and whatever Cave and Technosoft made.

Yes, Contra is pretty much the safe asnwer, Contra III Alien Wars was damn impressive back in the day.

Aero Fighters was cool as well.

UN Squadron and Darius Twin were among my favorites too.

Among others, honestly i don't quite remember every shoot em up i've played ... oh Shock Troopers 2 was damn fun too.

Never was a huge fan, but Silkworm for the Commodore Amiga was cool. Featuring coop gameplay, one player controlled a helicopter and the other controlled a jeep.

Menace on the Amiga was also impressive for its time.
