@PAL360: Totally agree. I love nice looking 2d sprites. Early 3d graphics just look horrible.
the early 3d console games were never a good games to begin with. not especially compare to PC games at those times.
however 2d platformers did played better than them.

Indeed.
For me the 6th gen aged the worse. 5th gen was the transition of 2D to 3D, so we still saw lots of 2D games, a mix of 3D polygons with 2D sprites, etc. That gen had personality. 6th gen, on the other hand, was like a terrible version of modern gaming. Devs started to aim realism and tried to mimic CGI in real time, but the hardware was still far from that point. Instead we got framerates of 20s, pop up everywhere, dated mechanics, bad animations, etc. I find the PS2, in particular, very hard to enjoy these days.
That's just my opinion, though.
I still play (recently) Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption and Combat Flight Simulator 2. I think they're still okay. Other older games are Red Alert 2, SSI Steel Panthers, Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far.
Final Fantasy 5 (SNES)
Defender of the Crown (Commodore 64)
Larry 1 (Amiga or PC)
Sonic 1-3 (The classic 2D Genesis Games)
Shining Force (Genesis)
And finally ET on Atari 2600!
Ok, the last game was a silly joke of mine, but the other games I'm still playing today.
