DSOGaming:

Back in April, we informed you about a fan-made remake of Tomb Raider II in Unreal Engine 4. This remake is being created by Nicobass, who has released some new screenshots from it.

Now a lot will be wondering when this fan-made game will be released. Well, unfortunately it won’t happen anytime soon.

As Nicobass wrote:

“Some people asked me how many levels i have done or when the full game will be released, I think they don’t realize that making a video-game like this from scratch takes really many time and even if i spend many time on this I’m not a game studio, it’s not like build a custom level with the old level editor for Tomb Raider (it’s not like modding). The whole game won’t be finished after a few years, so please just stop to ask for a release date, i’m just at the beginning of the game.”

From what we know so far, Crystal Dynamics have given the green light to Nicobass (provided he does not monetize it), so our guess is that this project won’t receive a C&D letter.

Looks solid.

It's a very cool approach from CD/SE to allow such a project.

But yeah a one-man team rebuilding a game like this in a modern engine, that'll take time :P

fan remakes are waste of time. They take years to finish and they are buggy and half ******

such a project requires an actual developer to wok on it.

Looks really good so far. I did not know this was even happening. If this is real and does come out then i will buy it.

It'll be free unless CD picks up the project.

That is what a remake should be like. Not the HD ports bullshit we're constantly getting. I'm not interested in a TR game but this looks like a proper "remake".

Well he already said it will take "really many time", so I doubt he's ever gonna finish it.

@R4gn4r0k: If he has some common sense he will get help.

From what I understand U4 is very easy to use.

Easily my favorite TR from the PS1 days. Looks great, but if it's not on PS4,I won't be playing it.

@uninspiredcup: UE4 is easy to use but he'll still need help with animations and coding.

Speaking of which, man do I wish there was an Anniversary version of TR2, considering Anniversary is the only way I'll ever play the original, like REmake will for me and Original RE.

@Cloud_imperium: Love it!!! Will buy/play whenever it comes out. Loved Anniversary. Glad the outfits and 90s style is still intact. Back when TR actually had tombs and challenge, and wasn't just a shooting game.

Good to know not all developers slap on cease and desist orders on fan remakes. This will be a long time in the making though.

Look like CD doesn't value their IP and is content with setting poor precedent.

Looks good!

I assume you/they mean Square Enix. CD doesn't own the Tomb Raider IP, and didn't even develop the original.
