GTAV, Sleeping Dogs, Mafia 3 and more games all have terrible cop systems and frankly, I am sick of them. GTA/Driver introduced them, and they were cool...even in Burnout and Need For Speed 10-15 years ago, but now they are annoying as hell.

I am SICK of them. Mafia 3 feels like a chore because I beat a mission and now cops are after me. Which forces me to look for a subway on a map because it is the only place I MIGHT escape them. Problem is they still might spawn randomly and near you....so you can’t just drive far enough away. They will always spawn near you and you see this on screen which kills the game.

It is the same thing with Watch dogs 2. The most unfair open world game in existence.

These games aim for realism when they are the furthest from it. I HATE the “wanted” level and hope they update it:

Right now, it is too hard to escape cops in GTAV/Mafia3/Watch Dogs 2 even on a 2-3 wanted level. You are forced Underground/caves...but Mafia/watchdogs spawns the cops inside these places....or somewhere too close. Like damn.

So maybe @Rockstar #rockstar can fix GTA6 and add 10 Stars or more. Make the wanted level less offensive and hard to get.

And now we see stealth in GTA 6 and getting a 3 star calls the army and drone nukes you.

@Ant_17:

Well it should be updated to 10 stars:

1-3: Easy to escape

4-6: Helicopters and SWAT

9-10: Military/Army/Marshall Law.

The current system though is too damn hard especially on country missions with lots of highways. If you have a 3 Star, It is impossible to avoid cops in the country when only the highway exists.

GTAV is the most frustrating game offline or online.

Mafia3 and sleeping dogs are even worse because I can legit see the cops randomally appearing/spawning every time I get far away enough from the ones that were chasing me. So damn unfair.

Cop chasing and running is a chore in 2017 and I would like to see it vanish or reduced/balanced in future games. Right now, it sucks and I hate Mafia 3/Watch Dogs 2 because of it.

Meh, I know of a few places where I can hide from the cops without problem if the chase begins to drag on.

I found it easy to shake off cops in GTA V SP. See a cop (red dot) on the minimap? Make a turn perpendicular to the street the cop is on, rinse, repeat until the timer runs out. Stay out of their scanning range.

Oh, that's assuming the player's character is in a vehicle.

I also avoid shooting them so that it's mainly 1-2 stars. Shoot a cop and it goes to 3 stars and worse.

I also scout the area for points where I can jump aboard a train.

@jun_aka_pekto:

That strategy works for 1-2 stars. Go diagonal. Everyone knows that. The problem is 3+ stars with the helicopters. It becomes unfair and you end up wasting 20+ minutes just avoiding cops.

And it becomes annoying when that happens after every mission which watch dogs 2 and Mafia 3 throwing at you. Beat a mission? Okay, now time to do an annoying “run away from cops mini game”.

Like, it just ruins everything. I don’t even want to finish Mafia 3 because i know I will have to outrun cops every mission. It sucks.

Well, it's just like real life. It's hard to shake off a chopper that's equipped with different sensors for finding you.

I only played the SP campaign. So, I'm not sure about the MP part. I can't remember shooting at cops unless it was part of a mission. On free-roam, I simply don't unless it's on my terms like if I was on a train and armed to the teeth.

I have shaken off a chopper at 3-stars on foot by simply being able to break line of sight. I was able to do this by swimming deep underwater and coming up for air when they're scanning in another direction. Or I was able to hide under a wharf.

For 4-5 star chases, tunnels are the best hiding places, assuming you can survive long enough to find one. That's why I memorized landmarks. I know a couple of tunnels that served me well in past free-roams. Out in the country, I look for places where I can jump aboard a train such as the signal light tower on the first screenshot. It takes practice and alertness to find a train and a way to get on it. But, it can be done. The cops aren't very good at tracking you if you're on a train. Once you're on board, hide until the timer runs out or the train enters one of several tunnels.

It's funny how you people talking about this as I bought GTA5 during Black Friday.

There were two missions which involves shaking off the cops. Both took way too long. I hope it's not like this throughout the whole game.

It is. They also ruined the AI of the cops compared to GTA4. You can't have fun with them anymore.

It's gonna be riddled with microtransactions. I wouldn't be surprised if you could buy currency to buy items that get rid of stars.

To fix it I would think that you get more and more connections in the city that will help get rid of a star or the police entirely. Think of the new paint job for cars, but maybe more things like that. I'm just not sure they're good enough to do that instead of just demanding more money.

I agree with you tc, especially for Watch Dogs 2, I rage quit more than a few times because of the cops, I still loved the game though.

I've had the issue in Mafia 3 once, that game gets so much wrong anyway, I had to dive into the sea and swim out as far as it took for the cops to go away.

Cops chases in games are a slog, padding, they can ruin an otherwise great game.

GTA 3's cop system was good but not perfect.(6 stars was impossible to escape due to the overpowered tanks.)

1 star=cops after you on foot.

2 stars=cops after you by car but not too agressive.

3 stars=cops become more aggressive and try to drive over you and you got a chopper following you.(Don't remember chopper was in this wanted level or 4 stars)

4 stars=armored cars.

5 stars=FBI cars

6 stars=tanks.

Sleeping Dogs's system was pretty awful. You have to kill a lot of people until cops bother to follow you.

It's a tough balance, because it can be pretty fun when the madness just keeps escalating. I can agree it can be a bit much in story missions where you wanna do more handcrafted stuff and not be caught in the systemic police chase loop. But otherwise I think escaping the police needs to be pretty tough to be a relevant mechanic at all.

But, next GTA should have stealth imo. If you can commit the crime unseen, no cops should chase you.

Games today are already easy enough. I'm not in favour or lowering the skill requirements any more than they already are. In a game where you can own rocket launchers and super cars, I don't have a lot of sympathy for you if you can't outrun the cops. Just get better.

I recently completed Mafia 3 and only few missions had trouble with cops. And in those instances it was real easy to deal with them simply by driving to allied 'fort' where your pals then shot down the cops while you hid.

All GTA style games have some tricks for beating the cops. In Watch Dogs, for example, all you need to do is hop into a boat and sail to sea to wait for the fuss to die down. In GTAV, head for the hills.

It's never that big chore, and the cops are never there without reason. They are part of those games and give added reason to be discreet about your crimes.

Sleeping Dogs is perhaps easiest when it comes to cops. Very easy to lose them HK coppers!

I can also shake off the cops in GTA V 2-star chases by both going up to the hills and swimming out over water. With helicopters involved, the only dependable way to shake them off is to go inside a tunnel or get on a train. The tunnels were easy enough to find once I was familiar with the map. Finding a train and getting aboard while being chased from land and air require a lot more practice and timing.

The entrance to a tunnel is a choke point. I sat at a spot near enough the entrance, but away from the helicopter's line of fire. There, I picked off anyone attempting to come in. Once one group has been eliminated, it takes a while for the next group to arrive. I then used that time to move on deeper into the tunnel until the timer runs out.

I only succeeded twice in getting aboard a train while under hot pursuit. It's pretty hard. But, it made me grin both times I made it. Nowadays, I get aboard the train to view the scenery or cause mayhem. The train never stops moving. It travels on an endless loop around the island.

I find GTAV cops deeply satisfying. Shaking higher star levels isn't easy but you can absolutely just outrun them without needing tunnels/buildings/etc to hide in.

I think it should be incredibly tough to shake the highest levels. Isn't that the point? You need to play in a saner, more careful, more stealthy way if you want to avoid this problem.
