THQ Nordic has unveiled a couple of minutes of new Darksiders 3 footage, the first to be shown since its announcement and gameplay reveal in May.

Darksiders 3 follows a similar combat-heavy third-person action adventure template to its predecessors, but this time places a new protagonist - the "unpredictable and enigmatic" Fury - front and centre. So far, each of the Darksiders games has followed the tribulations of a different member of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, and with Death, War, and now Fury accounted for, that just leaves Strife to go.

"Earth is now overrun by the Seven Deadly Sins and the mystical creatures and degenerated beings that serve them," says publisher THQ Nordic of Darksiders 3, "The Charred Council calls upon Fury to battle from the heights of heaven down through the depths of hell in a quest to restore the balance and prove that she is the most powerful of the Horsemen."

The new video above is the second in-game look at Darksiders 3 since its CG announcement trailer was revealed, the first footage coming via IGN back in May. It features a couple of minutes of fairly straightforward hack-and-slashery through the bowls of a vast, fiery cavern known as the Hollow. There's not a lot in the way of the series' more Zelda-esque puzzling, but it does offer a reasonable glimpse at Fury's whip-based combat moves.

The first two Darksiders game were tremendously entertaining, and the third sounds like it's in equally good hands. Darksiders 3 is being developed by Gunfire Games, a Austin-based studio consisting of many members of Vigil, the original Darksiders development team.

Darksiders 3 is currently scheduled to release on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 next year, so it's likely we'll be seeing a whole lot more of it soon.

I didn’t like the first 2 games. I got bored of them after a couple hours. Stopped playing.

Not sure what they could do to make them better. I guess they should copy God Of war more and LESS Zelda stuff. Zelda sucks.

I actually enjoyed DS 1 & 2 quite a bit. I was surprised I did. Looking forward to 3. Just played DS 2 again when it released as a free PS+ game. Held up well. Good puzzles, combat differs depending on what you skills you level up. Nice mix of GOW & Zelda elements

I agree. God Of War was repetitive and Bayonetta was just incoherent nonsense.

It is looking much better than the previous reveal. It has potential now.

Never liked Darksiders. The characters look dumb as hell (or "cool" if you're 12 years old), and the gameplay was just ok to me. Quite boring. If you want a good game that's like Zelda, look no further than Okami.

I don't get the hate for this series.

Zelda+DMC? There are worse things to play.

I look forward to this game and it feels as though they are holding back on the combat options.

I really like Darksiders 1 and 2 but this one... hasnt convinced me yet. Hope it does.

Whats sad is that I'm 70% sure it'll flop sales wise and it'll be the last time we'll ever see of this franchise. I really hope I'm wrong but idk...

Hate? Ouside of some overzealous Zelda fans who cant accept another Zelda like game, I barely see any hate for the franchise. The contrary actually, this franchise has a niche group of fans

I enjoyed DS1 and 2, but they were flawed. DS1 was inconsistent from dungeon to dungeon. DS2 was mostly barren open land with few enemies. I assume DS3 will be fun, but also flawed.

Frack yeah! Excited for this game. Loved the previous two Darksiders. It's not so much the gameplay--it's solid, but nothing amazing--but the game world, lore, characters, comic-book-like design of everything, that I enjoy.

Indeed. That first reveal was poor, I am surprised they even bothered revealing it at all.

Yeah, it does. Maybe the combos are not incorporated yet? Or maybe they don't want to give anything away? Idunno.

I really enjoyed DS1 and 2, 2 especially. If its the same team making this (which I believe it is?) I'm very much looking forward to it.

I never played any of these. Was always vaguely interested, but I feel like my list of "must plays" is too long at this point and I'll never get around to it

Darksiders and Darksiders 2 were fun games. Not the best thing ever but good fun.

I'm not feeling this third game yet. I'll continue keeping my eye on it though.

Loved the first two Darksiders, so this is a day one buy for me.

However, I do have one issue, I hate how forced the female protagonist feels. The first two games state at multiple points how the Horsemen are Brothers, yet suddenly Fury is Female? If Fury was always meant to be Female in this series, fine, and to be fair if any of them where to be, Fury would be the obvious choice (Hell hath no fury like a Woman score, and all that), but again, at several points in the first two games both War and Death, as well as other characters, refer to the other Horsemen as their brothers. It just feels so badly like it was a decision made last minute to appeal to a crowd who probably won't even buy the game.

As I said, I'm still buying the game, but I just hope the decision was made because they felt it was best for the character, and not because they just wanted to tick that box.

This Darksiders 3 footage, compared to a game that until just recently was in development by ONE asian man..

Loading Video...

lol, I'd say the THQ team might be better off trying their hand at some shooters.

Her character existed prior to this so they didn't pull a strong-independent-woman out of their ass.

@spike6958: Fury was female as far back as DS1. It isn’t forced.

I hope it’s more like 1 and they drop the loot system from 2
