i think its big news. this potentially opens up a massive revenue for sony

PS1, PS2 and PS3 streaming to many devices like ps4, tablets, bravia tv, vita and phones

  • Closed beta end of january in the US
  • Releases in the summer 2014 in US
  • Subscription model or rent by title

'With PS Now, you can rent by title for specific games, or you can choose a subscription that delivers additional value with a wide variety of genres. For example, you can try out a game by rental first, before deciding to actually purchase the full game and download it to your console. We believe this streaming game service will add tons of value to dedicated game consoles in addition to packaged and downloaded games, and in doing so, we will open up a new world of possibilities across PlayStation platforms.'

  • *update: 5mbps+ connection recommended. game saves stored on cloud

complete break down here: http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2014/01/07/playstation-now-5mbps-recommended-us-mainland-at-first-save-files-move-lots-more/

damage control by POLYSOFT hahaha

Massive game changer, as well as the expansion on IPTV services. No HDMI-in necessary. Sony just leapfrogged Microsofts TVTVTVTV BS.

How much is it gonna cost per month? I'm guessing $10.

Also not really a game changer. Onlive and gaikai did the same thing. Albeit with PC games.

It looks interesting and I would love to see it in action. Along with the live tv/ on demand stuff, It was just the thing I was looking for in the ps4. At first I was considering Xbox one because it has more features but since this stuff is rolling out sooner than I expected, I will get a ps4 now.

Thank you for addressing the elephant in the room. Is this service going to be part of PSN+? Or will it require a separate fee?

Seems like a smart way of phasing out expensive PS3 production without losing a market for software. Very smart business decision and increases incentive to sell PS4 and a huge incentive for Vita.

Sony is shaking things up here.

If it looks as bad as Onlive... No thanks.

I much rather have Full HD remakes @ 60FPS.

ps3 games are hd and will age very well. what is the point in investing all that money for remakes, rather have them work on new games

@Couth_: Yeah I know lol.

I hoping this comes with ps+ subscription, but I'm guessing not since Sony invested so much in Gaikai. I'm also hoping I don't have to buy games I already have.

I'd take a 5 dollar bump in a PSN subscription to get this. As long as it featured the most prominent PS3 games and a whole lot of PS2 and PS1 libraries

..well they would either charge you for the service or for the games. I just hope it's not unreasonable. I missed out on quite a few PS3 titles and I would rather not buy a discounted PS3.

It very well could be a game changer. It depends on how good the service is (quality, latency) and how much the subscription/rental prices are.

If Chris G, Diago Umehara, and Justin Wong test out the latency and say it gets THEIR approval...the service will be a show-stopper.

I hope this forces Microsoft to implement a similar technology this generation because there were some 360 games that came out from 2005-2009 that I'd love to play again. But I sold my 360 to get a One and now I can't play them. Also, I miss Halo CE, Ninja Gaiden Black and some others from the Xbox years.

But yes, PlayStation Now...PS1/2/3 games on any tablet, Vita, smartphone or even television...presumably unified across all devices you own by a single subscription (like Netflix) would be pretty huge....provided tablets, smartphones and televisions get proper controllers made for them. To this date, all smartphone and tablet controllers suck ass.

Will be the gaming event that changed gaming. Steam Machines little too late and are a joke. MS and Ninty really haven't brought anything innovative. Sony has now got gaming locked down.

Thank you Sony, and Lord Kaz.

This makes the Vita the ultimate PlayStation player. I'm in.

Side note, I wonder if this will cause PS+ to be bumped up to $60 a year?

EDIT: I am worried about streaming, bandwidth, latency, and other infrastructure issues- I'm trying to imagine 4 million PS4s and 5 million Vitas all trying to play resource intensive PS3 games at once, won't the network just crash?

@ghostwarrior786:

FULL HD = 1080p

Which is TV standard this day and age.

720 is have the resolution. Not to mention most games ran 30 FPS or less and other struggled to even do 720p.

You might not buy it... But I would.

the only 3 games worth playing on x360 are halo ce, halo 3 and gears 3. the rest like alan wake are on pc anyway, knowing m$ if they did a service like this they would charge ridiculous prices. i just want them to port halo ce hd to steam damn it

So you pay a subscription or you pay to rent the games, sounds expensive to me but we shall see. Also quality remains to be seen, I mean, being able to play the games is nice, but if the quality is as bad as Onlive used to be then it will be pretty shitty.

Yeah. Input lag and compression were horrible.

I'd use this at least occasionally if it's good, but you no doubt have to have up to date high speed internet to get any good out of it. And the service itself better be cheap.

As I suspected, the end of console gaming. This will be the future my friends, no PS5, it will simply be a streaming service on tablets.

I just hope MS does not do this too, waste of time and resources in my opinion. Why don't you guys just keep your PS3 close by, you would prefer to play a laggy version of a game?

Rather than concentrating on the future, this feels like a step backwards to me, but to each his own there must be a market for it if they are doing it.
