Those who said the X1X GPU is a match for the 1070 come forward and apologize

You know who you are.

The X1X does remarkably well. Significantly better than the PS4 but it doesn't hold up to a 1070. The latest big title is Assassin's Creed Origins. This is the takeaway.

• This game uses dynamic scaling and stays mostly between 1700p to 1800p. Max noted is 2016p. Don't think it ever hits 4K. Doesn't match the Ultra PC version either. Mostly hovers around 1440p on PS4 Pro.
• Shadow quality is highest on PC. Xbox One X sits between PS4 Pro and PC. PS4 Pro is obviously last.
• Ambient Occlusion on X1X looks worse than on PS4 Pro and PC but it's not a massive downgrade.
• Draw distance is a bit higher on PC. Equal on PS4 Pro and X1X.
• AF seems a bit higher on the new consoles compared to the base ones but that is mostly attributed to higher resolution.
• Neither console versions hold a locked 30fps but the dips are minor, high 20's at worst.
• Cut scenes are worse on all platforms but suffer more on consoles where they dip as low as the low 20's.
• Trailer was native 4K on X1X. Not the case in the release product. Not a huge downgrade but it is thought a PC was used and the settings scaled back to match the X1X.
• HDR patch on all platforms to go along with the release of the X1X version.

So nope, no native 4K for Assassin's Creed Origins. It is the latest in a long series of games that perform worse on the X1X than a PC sporting a 1070 with a CPU that doesn't bottleneck it too much. The X1X does well enough for its price point though.

Yeah, it's a hard pass on this thing. I was still mildly intrigued because it's 1) a new gadget and I love new gadgets, 2) it's a sexy gadget, 3) it's gpu is, in principle, better than the current one in my pc (970). But not only does it offer basically nothing new on the software side of things, but the games it runs "better" are higher res but lower framerates and seemingly half the time are NOT at ultra settings. I'll take my 1080p 60fps, thanks, and upgrade my gpu in another year or so

Just to set this straight, "all of you" means basically Ron.

First of all this is an Nvidia game and Nvidia cards are performing a lot better than their AMD counterparts in this particular game. But let's pretend that doesn't matter and move on. Look at the charts below showing the game running at 1440p on a GTX 1070. The average framerate is 55, minimum frames are 38. There you have the 1070 dipping all the way down to 38 fps at only 1440p, yea that really murdered the X1X which runs at minimum 50% higher resolution than 1440p as you heard in the DF video. I know the X1X is not running in full Ultra but still, it's very damn close to the performance of the 1070. If you disagree, imagine what digital foundry would say if a console ran Assasins creed Origins with an unlocked framerate at 1440p and the framerate was jumping from 60 all the way down to 38, they would say the performance jumps all over the place and they should have just capped it at 30.

But you don't care and you think me saying this is an Nvidia game is damage control. Well, let's look at the performance of the 13.7 TERAFLOP AMD GPU the Vega 64. This card has more teraflops than double the Xbox one X 6 Teraflops. With all of that performance, the 13 teraflop Vegas 64 only gets an average of 56 fps and a minimum of 28 fps. Think about that for a second, a minimum of 28 fps for an AMD card that has over 13 teraflops of performance. If you are about to get mad and tell me the PCs aren't well optimized, then you arrive at the point you insulted me for making that the X1X will perform better than an equivalent PC due to it's optimization. You see how that works?

Finally let's talk about 4k. The X1X can't run it at that but look at all of those $500 videocards and none of them can even run it stable at 30fps in 4k. Even the over 13 teraflop Vega 64 is unplayable at 4k Ultra. At least the X1X gives great performance and with it's dynamic 4k resolution, it almost simulates PCs 4K Ultra @ rock solid stable 30 fps due to, wait for it.....optimization!!!

Not even a GTX 1080 ti can run this game in 4k Ultra @ 60 fps. Now, would you please explain to me again why you are so disappointed in the Xbox One X's performance on this game?

No way, it's not widely reported but Mighty X1X MonsterBox is not only future proof but tested and is Hulk proof as well. lol :P

And the quality drops to maintain that 4K and Digital Foundry opted to use to lower resolutions with better graphics. A 1070 can maintain 30fps at Ultra settings and 4K and the X1X isn't even a match for PC Ultra in the first place.

Average for 1060 is 20fps. Its closer to 1070 than 1060.

Not sure what your problem is really. Nothing is going to be exact, it was developers who said it was ball park like 1070 which people quoted.

You'd be surprised. Just use the search function here to search for xone x 1070 and you'll find many Lems saying they'll be pretty much equal.

Hey buddy, I have an idea let's ignore all the actual benchmarks. Let's instead agree that the 1070 runs it at about 90 fps in 4k Ultra and the 1080 ti runs it at 200 fps in Ultra settings. Damn these dumb Xbox fanboys with their delusional expectations. You're so right.

I am a hardcore PC fanboy here, but even I can see that xbox one x offers the best ratio performance / price than any low budget gaming PC build. It's out of question Xbox One X beats most middle range PCs at lower cost. PC Gaming IS expensive. It's extremely popular, but it's not for every one. A gaming pc from scratch with 1070GTX will cost you at least 900 bucks, realistically speaking. For 4k gaming you will have to pair it with 300$ cpu, 150$moba, chassis, ddr4 memory are 50-90$, hard drive, etc. And the build won't include 4k video player. I am talking out of my 20 years of PC gaming experience. Even if you plan your build carefully you will always end up paying more unless you fish for components piece by piece online, which is tedious and requires patience. You come to the store, and some deals you were planning to buy are out of stock, and you will always end up paying more, unless you shop online.

So it all comes down at how much people are willing to pay, and if they are prepared to deal with all the hassle of building their own PC. Xbox One X is a very viable choice for regular people who are on a budget or are not technically savvy.

If x1x all it has to offer is 4K then in the end it cant even do that then whats the reason to own one ? I dont get what people thinking.
