Seems that after 5 months of optimization and tooling from Gotham Knights devs, all versions of the title have been *fixed.

Unfortunately, they've still limited the current gen consoles to only having a 30fps gameplay option.

So, a real "fix" IMO would have been a 1440p or at worse 1260p performance mode option for both PS5 and Xbox Series X which would almost guarantee a somewhat stable 60fps. DF shows 2060 super running DLSS 1440p Balanced (internal resolution below 1080p) achieving a somewhat stable 45-60fps.

  • PS5 is locked to 30fps in internal sections
  • PS5 in open world sections run at *nearly locked 30fps, but has a 1 off dropped frame that pop up every so often.
  • Xbox Series X/S are locked to 30fps in internal sections
  • Xbox Series X/S in open world have issues maintaining performance during fast traversal frequently dropping frames
  • Dynamic resolution was implemented on consoles
  • The maximum resolution is the same as of the updated released (native 4k PS5&XSX/1440p XSS)
  • No reduction in environment complexity, NPC's or RT effects
  • On a 4090 game can run 100fps.
  • Cutscene animation issues on PC (4090) at 60fps as is on Xbox Series consoles with jittery movement not found on PS5

Interesting analyst's comments:

On the implemented dynamic resolution

"Launch versions came in at a locked 2160p on PS5 and Xbox Series X and 1440p on Series X. The maximum resolutions are the same as of the current release...

PS5 and Series S both clocked at the same resolutions before in every shot I tested (meaning PS5 actually maintained a native 4k output thought all testing) while Series X reached a low of 2016p at worst."

On Xbox Series X/S performance vs PS5

"(Xbox Series X/S) out door scenes not entirely perfect but much improved. Both Series S and X feel much better to play than in there initial forms. Unfortunately they do lag behind the PS5 release here despite the enhancements over the launch code.

The primary problem comes down to dropped frames during fast traversal. Both Xbox's have the same problem here, a predictable if infrequent pattern of 50 millisecond frames when driving at speed. These tend to pop up every 15 or 20 seconds or so, often clustered around the LOADING threshold and intrude frequently enough to be a little distracting. Larger stutters can still pop up as well."

In Conclusion summery

"...Consoles manage a much closer 30fps lock as well, PS5 in particular is just about where it should be, with an almost unblemished 30fps update (at native 4k) in my testing."

One user commented regarding Xbox Series X vs PS5 results as a Xbox Series X owner:

M S

As the XSX 'the most powerful console' (on paper by around 20%) owner, I just have enough of Microsoft console performing noticeably worse, sometimes even by -20% than PS5. Kudos to PlayStation 5 software and hardware engineers, your console is not only more performant but also cheaper to build, not even mentioning AAA exclusive titles and best studios on the market. If only you had previous PS leaders not antagonising Jim Ryan.

Thoughts, feelings, damage control, attack the messenger? Whatever you may need to express

@above_average: Wo Long performed better on XSX.

Try harder, fanboy.

That's good to hear. That's what now? Like 2 big 3rd party games (A Plague Tale Requiem & Wo Long) in the last 5 to 6 months to have an advantage on Xbox Series X over PS5? Happy for you.

Xbox Series X does have a few advantages over PS5 that can manifest depending on a developers engine/code.

It's unfortunate for you that the split of games that favor one console's architecture over the other is a 80/20 divide in PS5's favor.

Without a 60fps gameplay option on current gen consoles, most will feel the same way.

Could have easily been achieved with a 1260p - 1440p resolution drop

@above_average: Even with all that fixed the game itself just isn’t good on a fundamental level.

I was gonna say 50 - 60fps but then I saw it dropping to the mid 40's.

Still feel like consoles would be able to hit 60fps with a res drop with Series X only dropping as low as 2016p and PS5 sticking to 4k at 30fps

Not if the bottleneck is the CPU. Dropping resolution isn't the fix all solution. If the CPU can't keep up it won't matter what resolution the game runs in.

@above_average: the same clown making same threads. This doesn't surprise me at all. 3rd party devs using ps5 as lead platform, and optimizing and building around ps5. Not even using half the features of the full RDNA2 Xbox set of features. Which ps5 doesn't have since its barely rdna1.

This is why first party Xbox games absolutely crush and demolishes anything on the ps5 by a wide margin. Expect the same when CoD gets bought out by Xbox. It won't be held back by 9tflop oc machine and it will get treatment it truly deserves on full rdna2 12 tflop Xbox.

What does this mean, is it a good game now?

Or is this poor ownage using a developer that took 5 months to fix a game? :-S

So, "attack the messenger" it is for you then? lol

But look who the clown is here. It's you making an argument about "lead platform and optimizing and building around" something when this is a 5 MONTH POST LAUCH UPDATE for each individual platform.

Do you really think optimization tools for PS5 are the same as the Direct X 12 Ultimate set which are used for Xbox Series and PCs? They are completely separate genius.

After launch your "lead platform" excuses go completely out the window as optimization for each platform is specified to it's own specific tools.

FYI: I don't give AF about COD, so stop bringing it up to me as some kind of argument crutch when addressing me making your arguments.

1. The game being good or not is up to you.

2. I think the game will be "'fixed" when they add a 60fps option for both PS5 and Xbox Series X

3. "Wait til the post launch patches come out" used to be a battle cry xbox fans used when PS5 games had better performance at launch. What's the problem now?

4. 5 months is a lot of time to iron out issues, maximize tools and optimize for platform specific advantages on each system available to the game.

These are the results.

Larger stutters can still pop up as well."

and

"PS5 and Series S both clocked at the same resolutions before in every shot I tested (meaning PS5 actually maintained a native 4k output thought all testing) while Series X reached a low of 2016p at worst."

Your reply would be more effective if this was only at launch. But this is the developers having 5 more months to work on each system's strength and Xbox Series hardware to tap into it's great "12 Tflop power advantage" that MS's PR team hyped you guys up on.

Call it poor ownage if that makes you feel better about another developers game running significantly better on PS5. But the list of big games and developers you can turn to and claim your 12Tflop box is the best is shriveling up to a footnote.

That could be true.

I don't remember what CPU Digital Foundry was running when testing the game on that 2060 super, that would give us a better indication of if it's feasible or not.

4. 5 months is a lot of time to iron out issues, maximize tools and optimize for platform specific advantages on each system available to the game.

Not on four platforms from a developer that struggled in the first place. Five months isn't that long at all.

How are Xbox fans so delusional? The last two games that won " best graphics " were PS5 exclusives. Horizon : Forbidden West and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart. The Xbox is losing the multiplats and getting it's ass handed to it when it comes to exclusives. I can't wait for the meltdowns when Spider-Man 2 comes out this year looking like playable CGI and Starfield looks like a free to play mobile game.

I played the free trial and I really wanted to like this game but it sucks. The traversal feels so stiff and scripted and the combat feels about the same.

Here I am debating if 60 fps is not that good anymore....possibly even kind of bad for 2023.....

Meanwhile PS5 still playing games at a nightmarish 30 fps unless you lower settings to dogshit or sometimes not at all.

@silentchief: the only one delusional is you. MSFS20 blows away anything and everything on the ps5. Gears of war 5, same story. Heck, halo infinite >> ps5. This is a fact, it's reality, let it sink in cows.

Lol at spiderman playable cgi 🀣 🀣, its going to be like toy story graphics right?

Bottom line, 12 tflop >> 9tflop (oc to 10.28). If the devs actually built around Xbox first and foremost, and used all the RDNA2 velocity architecture, Xbox would always be winning.

Halo infinite looks like a mid quality PS4 game. Seriously this has to be trolling. 🀣

Yea you brought up Resident Evil. There's a seperate thread about RE4 remake beating the series X by about 10 fps. It would make sense to post this in that thread as opposed to this one which is done by a completely different dev on a completely different engine but whatever πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I did but I don't get the RE comparison with it. I mean one could mention the PS5 beats the XSX in DMC5: SE and Monster Hunter Rise which uses the RE engine. Or the fact Hogwarts Legacy and Atomic Heart are better on PS5 since we're talking about how the PS5 keeps beating the XSX nearly 3 years in.

If this game launched on game pass it could become more popular and make more money for the developer. Good news that the publisher still can make this choice!

I wouldn't say 'fixed' when 99,9% of current gen games look better and run at 60fps.
