These comparison shots really makes the jump to next gen clear

Found this on resetera. Thought it was an excellent way to show the really dramatic improvements in the UE5 demo. I know one is a tech demo and the other an actual game. But still, the difference is remarkable. Many more shots at the link!

Meh, you know the PS5 shot was a tech demo, the final product will be scaled back quite a bit. I imagine it might look a bit better than the PS4 shot, but not much.

@jangles: You know it was a real time demo, not some CGI target render right? If you think next gen games will look slightly better then UC4 you've got a little to much DERP in your head.

I will be sticking to real next gen aka PC.

We will see. I think next gen will be a significant improvement when it comes to lighting and detail. Much closer to the UE5 demo than Uncharted 4.

When I first saw the UE5 demo it kind of looked like how I remembered Uncharted 4. But these shots makes it obvious UE5 demo is far better. The level of detail really is amazing. And the dynamic lighting as well. Surfaces in Uncharted look so plastic in comparison. A demo that makes Uncharted 4 look this bad must be good!

Compare a tech demo to another tech demo instead.

Like I said in the OP I’m aware of this. The point for me was that this comparison showed how much better the UE5 demo was than the top current gen games. This was not clear to me when I watched the demo, so I wasn’t as impressed as I should have been. I thought others could have felt the same and therefor be interested in these shots.

Every gen we have these so-called tech demos on how awesome next gen is going to be and every gen it turns out they don’t even come close...

Also UC4 is a pretty bad looking game( playing it atm as it was free) and hilarious that cows ever claimed it was graphic king

@djoffer123: Yeah it definitely isn’t up to par with the earlier games in terms of graphics relatively speaking. It always got blown away by Crysis 3, TW3, AC Unity and SOTTR. The character models look pretty good especially in cut scenes but there is something off about the visuals. Sorta muddy looks and poor textures.

Always the PC Enthusiast coming to rain on consoles parade regarding Epic Tech Demo. What you guys who are making fun of Sony for "only having good SSD" about it that Unreal and all these new engines are prioritizing streaming stuff to fast drives to offload all the rendering power and not rely on stronger GPU's as much anymore. Hey look, I'm an avi PC gamer to the core, I love PC gaming as much as anyone else and have always built my own top of the line PC, but all the PCMR making fun of next-gen consoles annoys me, especially when for a couple months until these types of drives become more common in PC's, you probably will see better looking, better performing stuff on consoles for a bit but not much else sure, but its better then nothing at all.

I'll admit, these next-gen consoles are impressive to say the least, the tech demo doesn't make me WOW, but I'm very impress what was shown and especially this:

But yes, the tech should be taking with a grind of salt, but still, its impressive how consoles have come so far.

I find it humorous how many are dismissing the UE5 demo as what PS5 will be capable of. Maybe you guys should go back and look at the UE4 demo from 2013. The launch PS4 has better looking games on it than what's shown in the UE4 demo. PS5 will reach UE5 levels at minimum from Sony first party games.

@R4gn4r0k: Moving the goal post won't help your argument. Many are dismissing the demo as PS5 never reaching it. I can 100% say PS5 launch games won't reach it as UE5 won't even be available yet. That said, as PS4 eventually surpassed UE4's demo, PS5 will eventually match if not surpass the UE5 demo.

Console tech demos always look better than the final product. We won't really start seeing that jump till much later into next gen. Until then, we're going to see a lot of upscaled ps4-looking games.

A better comparison would've been Death Stranding or HZD. Both of those games make UC4 look bad in comparison.

If anyone has "derp in their head", it's people that believe the games will look this good. You folks don't learn from history, from years of unfulfilled E3 promises

But yeah, I think games will probably look 5-10% better than they do now. Depends on a lot of things, though; I am sure some will look shit-my-pants amazing with some trickery and cheating (looking at you, God of War... :D ) but most won't be that different.

We have been in an era of diminishing returns for a few years now, I would be more concerned with performance than how good things look these days.

I dunno. I'm getting wowed by RDR 2 right now. Even though, it looks rough in some areas, it is a full game compared to a demo.

Also Uncharted 4 looks bad at motion compared to screenshots, so bad comparison.

God of War was a good looking game but it also used a lot of tricks to do so. Lots of bloom and smudges, lots of loading "screens" because they could load very few resources per instance, and very limited scope of detail outside of the stuff that wasn't right in your face.

I said that mostly in jest and admiration; Santa Monica had to get very creative with limited hardware to make a game that looked quite good.

I understand why you might want to defend this game so blindly, though, and were so sensitive to my comment; Playstation exclusives are a touchy subject for you people, and if they aren't good you folks don't really have much going for you.

Anyway, before you go and file a butthurt report because I didn't drop to my knees when I saw this highly-scripted, staged tech demo that isn't-pre-rendered-but-might-as-well-be, I do think it looks good and PS5 will look good.

It just won't look that good. Give it a few years, let developers catch up.

@djoffer123: Next gen games always destroy tech demos. It may take 3 years but look at the old UE4.0 demos.. they look average compared to the best looking next gen games.

it was playing on a ps5. so the current ps5 not mid gen is playing this demo. also this demo was going to be at gdc for everyone to play on the ps5. thats right everyone would of held the dualsense playing this demo. you can't ignore the fact the ps5 is playing that demo.

Yes I know, but it's fun to look back at the hype (OMG SHINY PUDDLES), and then the outrage (WHERE ARE MY SHINY PUDDLES?), and as you pointed out the pointlessness of it all (I DONT NEED SHINY PUDDLES IT LOOKS FINE!)

Games won't look as good as they do in that tech demo (not for a few years, at least) but that doesn't mean they will look bad, either. It will fall somewhere between current gen standards and the dreams people have lol.

fact is this demo was suppose to be at that game show were everyone who came to play it would of had a dual sense controller in there hands to play it. fact is you normally never play a tech demo. but this one was.

the fact is it is playable on the ps5 period. no faking this demo because people would be playing it with the ps5 controller at the cancelled game show.

I think eventually PS5 games will exceed that. But it won't be for at least 2 years.

There won't be any game that goes sub 1440p at 30fps being released by devs on next gen, period. Which is what you'd need to do to run a game at this fidelity on base PS5.

Yes there will. They can use a series of new upscale techniques that upscale to 4k that will still look better then 1440p.

I think you're right. That's one thing we can count on, at least, is the publishers and developers know we demand progress.
