These are each system's highest selling games

So, in continuing with my recent sales threads (the first one was the list of highest selling games for each genre, and the second one was the list of bestselling franchises), I decided to do a third one which is essentially a list of the highest selling games across every major system ever. However, to keep this manageable, I decided to only include the three currently active console manufacturers (i.e. no Atari or Sega consoles here).

Anyway, here we go:

Looks like Microsoft and Nintendo let the casual fool's gold trick them into making bad consoles this gen.

Also Charizard including that pack in game for Wii U is very misleading. That was not the reason people bought it like Wii Sports was for the Wii.

Also, TC where are you getting your sources from for highest sold XB1 game.

AFAIK Cod Ghosts sold more than Forza 5.

I didn't include the pack in game for Wii U because there is no one single pack in game for the Wii U (and it's sold lower than Mario, which was sold independently, anyway).

I found numbers for Forza, but none for Ghosts with a platform breakdown (all I found was first day sales revenue). Couldn't put Ghosts there with no numbers. Same with, say, Assassin's Creed IV or Battlefield 4. No platform breakdowns.

What I think it really is very surprising is that not a single game ever sold 20M copies on any playstation system,even on the PS2 wich had the highest install base of any console ever it still only had GTA SA at 17M. I guess like most of us suspected most people buying that console was for it´s dvd capabilities,not really for games.

Not at all. All it shows is that PlayStation owners are likelier to buy a wider variety of games than being concentrated into buying single games, such as Nintendo and Xbox owners.

To counter your point about the PS2 being a DVD player, it managed to move 1.6 billion units of software, for an attach ratio of more than 10 per console. Do you really think that would hold true if it was being bought as a DVD player?

Microsoft did with the Orginial Xbox, and the 360 gets a pass because the game was bundled.

Handhelds is a diffrent ordeal. PSP's were bought a lot for pirating and Vita isn't selling well.

An average doesn´t relly mean much when we all know that millions of people bought way more than 10 games,if that was an exact number then that would be fine but it means that many people bought several games and many bought less or none. I mean let´s be fair here,there have been plenty of people during the heyday on the system that only bought it because it was the cheapest dvd solution in the market,I know several in real life like that that weren´t even gamers tyhat got it and over the course of the years on the internet several more,wich is only natural when you have such a heavy mainstream product.

Regardless of the system having a wide variety of games or whatever you want to say about it,having well over 150 muillion hardware units sold and the best selling game at "only" 17 million is a huge difference,never seen before in the attach ratio of any other console ever.

Minecraft, I think

Minecraft is 14 million according to wikipedia. It gives sims 2 at 20 million, and sims at 16 million but doesn't give a breakdown by system

Aren't Minecraft sales at 43 million? I know 15 million of those are on Xbox 360, but that still leaves 28 million, which is higher than Sims 2 at 20 million (assuming they are all PC).

Ah looks like it is 14 million on PC, at least a million on PS3, and at least 10 million on 360

then a total of 10 million on mobile

Yes, because San Andreas sold on more than just the PS2. The additional sales come from those other systems.

The xbox series of consoles also lack any games that hit 20M. The Kinect adventures was packed in with the Kinect, there were 24 Million kinects sold.

Yeah,but both xbox consoles together(three if you want to count the xbone as well) haven´t sold anywhere near as much as the PS2 alone. In fact,all three together still trail behind the PS2 by some 45 million units sold at least.

i dont understand why gt is such a big seller for ps3 and forza isnt for xbox. ps3 as expected shows more variety but i expected more from uncharted. halo 3 was a damn monster but i dont think halo holds the significance anymore. it will sell well but nowhere near halo 3 numbers.

That's probably because Halo 3 was amazing, and once Bungie left the series, the quality of the games fell off a cliff.

What a poor advocate for the PS brand.

Got everyone right except for Xbox 360's. I don't think it is fair to use a Kinect game that got packaged with the system. (Same applies to Ninty, no way did they sell even remotely close to 80 million copies of Wii Sports, 70 million of them were packaged with the system...)

So non-packaged only, I would say its GTA V for the X360 also.
