Yea I bet no one saw this coming but good for MS to have some sales to bump the Xbone up just a bit

"Originally slated for release last Tuesday, the console was delayed for six days. There was a launch party set up, but due to poor weather, the party was canceled. Microsoft also provided statements, saying that haven't been any new celebrations planned for the console's launch.

Despite the lack of official plans, the Xbox One's launch wasn't without fanfare. One of Microsoft's retail partners organised a midnight launch for eight of its retail outlets across China. Sure, it's not like a midnight release at a GameStop, but Sunning electronics had a store in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shenyang, Wuhan, and Chongqing open at midnight. That's pretty much the major Chinese cities.

The following video and photos are of the midnight launch in Shanghai."

Unfortunately, it appears most of photos of the launch were photos of the Beijing and Shanghai locations. Some of the photos were taken this morning, and not at the Midnight launch event. In Beijing, one of the Xbox launch partners even enlisted the help of Chinese professional gamer Cao Mei.

@blackace: it's good to see I don't think anyone anticipated the Xbone doing well there, but again numbers will speak

I think Nintendo said somewhere that they are going to release a different console in China at a much lower price point than the Wii U. I would expect something that is at least 1 generation behind the Wii U, tech-wise.

The launch line-up for the Xbox One in China is missing some notable entries, such as the recently released Destiny from Activision. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is also not available in China. Both games, as well as many others, do not meet the Chinese government’s censorship criteria which is heavy-handed when it comes to violent video games.

The console will sell in China for 4,299 yuan (just under $700) with the Kinect, a $200 premium over the same model in the United States. The Kinect-free model will retail for approximately $599.

Whether the Xbox One’s entrance into China can help propel the console’s flagging sales remains to be seen. The hardware is expensive, but it may be a lack of compelling content that hampers console sales the most.

According to Nick Ning, an analyst at 86Research Ltd. in Shanghai, video game sales will jump 39 percent to 111 billion yuan in 2014 but only 5 percent of that will go to video game consoles.

“Firstly, smartphone games have developed and now can do a lot,” Ning said, via Bloomberg. “Secondly, censorship in China is very strict. Even if people buy the console, the content they want to play needs to also get through censorship.”

The Xbox One marks the first of the major consoles to enter the Chinese market. That could translate to a much-needed win for Microsoft which continues to trail in the new-gen console wars behind Sony’s PlayStation 4. No hard launch date has been set for the PS4 in China yet.

Nintendo also plans to release a console in China, though according to the company it will be an entirely new system built with the Chinese consumer in mind. Nintendo may have an easier time working with China’s strict censorship guidelines given the family-friendly nature of its first-party line-up.

Well cows thought it would sell just like it did in Japan. By the looks of the pictures, we know it will sell much better in China, then it did in Japan. Don't think we need and sales figures at this point. China had over 100K preorders and there's already rumors that Sunning alone sold well over 70K so far and that's just one retailer. So I'm thinking 150K - 200K at least.

Nintendo really needs to launch there, seems to be the perfect country for their console, seeing how strict the censorship laws on games are. Good on Microsoft for being first.
