What is WiiWare?

WiiWare is the place that you download original content on your Wii. You can download a number of games, from 500-1500 Wii Points. The service is very much like XBox Live Marketplace. Wii Ware itself is not a separate channel, but it is located inside the Shop Channel.

Block Usage for Games

Mojipittan: 285
Animal Panic: 302
Star Soldier R: 141
FFCC:MLaaK: 287
Pokemon Ranch: 122
Dr. Mario: 86
LONPOS: 99
Solitaire: 91
Ping Pong: 274

All block totals are from the game only and no extra content downloaded. (Source)

I heard you have an extra charge once you download FF: CC. It's a "pay to play" thing, so I'm not touching that. I might get the Pokemon Ranch, though. I'm more interested in the Luc Bernard stuff.

If you want the extra stuff. You can still play the game perfectly without it.

Can't you put stuff on an SD card? Also, does the USB port(s?) in the back of the Wii support flash drives?

you can put it on an sd card, but sd cards will only go so far. it doesn't support flash drives. but it would be much easier for nintendo to release an external hdd but yes, an sd card will word for now.

Anyone know how many blocks FF:CC takes up? I'd be interested to know. Ninty really need to enable Wii to boot games from SD cards. They can go up to 8gb now. That's all most people will need. More practical than a HDD too.

I don't know about other people, but I have like 10 saved games data, 4 VC games and all the existing Wiiware stuff, and I'm no where close to being filled up. Unless these games take up like 500 blocks, I'll be fine.

I know it's in "blocks" but as long I don't fill up I don't care if it's in GB, blocks, or whatever.

First though, they'd need to come up with some security system to make sure that two people can't share the same game by copying it onto a flash drive. That'll probably be done by requiring the player to be connected to the Internet then checking their account to see if they own it. However, they'd also have to come up with some encryption program so that it'll take a long time to edit the code so that the check is bypassed. Either that, or they up their anti-piracy campaign.

there's no size limit on wiiware games and final fantasy is supposed to be pretty big.

you can already save vc games to an sd card, and you can only play them on your console, i don't see how a flash drive would be any different.

Nintendo can easily make a game run off a flash drive...

Aw man, $10 for Dr. Mario? Grumble grumble. Still, Crystal Chronicles and Star Soldier R FTW.
Anyone know how many blocks FF:CC takes up? I'd be interested to know.manicfoot
200 Blocks according to one of the previews. For a point of comparison, StarFox 64 takes up 124 blocks. So it's not small, but it's not huge either.

It looks like you can 'slow time' and interact with the wii pointer in Lost Winds - looks fun. :D
