It was Sony's first portable system and it was pretty successful as far as units sold - 80 million. I remember it was widely hacked so I don't know if Sony made a lot of money on software lol. I think that was one of the reasons why Sony used propriety cards for the Vita. But anyway.. did you have one, SW? Did you like it? Favorite games? I've had a PSP on multiple occassions but could never really get into it. The Vita aced the hardware aspect. Too bad it didn't have the type of library the PSP had.

Never had a PSP myself and never was all that interested in getting one either. I preferred Nintendo’s handhelds more. I was pretty interested in the Vita though but never got around to getting one.

PSP had the superior game library to the Vita. Devs actually made games for it for more than 2 years. A handful of games... even with Uncharted included... couldn't compete with much of anything. Devs (including Sony) essentially raped the PSV harder than a new inmate in a sex offender penitentiary.

Happy birthday to the PSP! Probably my most used portable ever with Monster hunter freedom and and Freedom unite taking up many hours. Many amazing JRPG on the system as well such as Crisis Core, FFT, Tactics Ogre and Persona 3 Portable.

I'm glad someone else remembered this important date. PSP was such an awesome handheld when it came out. It's almost like Sony doesn't like to remember the PSP in a way. Like others said, it was nowhere near a bad handheld when it sold 80 million units, I just think that once it got hacked, totally wide open and they figured there was absolutely nothing they could do they just gave up the ghost on it more or less overnight. Releases dried up pretty quickly and the whole handheld was swept under the carpet. Shame really. Nevertheless, I had a bunch of PSP games, it was getting more play then my Nintendo DS and my all-time favorite game on it was Queen's Blade: Spiral Chaos, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, & Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep.

PSP Forever!!!

The PSP has to be the best Non Nintendo handheld ever made in my opinion. It had tons of awesome games and the fact that it was very successful for a non Nintendo handheld since everyone else did a terrible job with them. It's too bad that Sony couldn't do the same with the Vita.

I missed the boat on PSP, can't believe it's a decade and a half old.

I do have a Vita, will be playing Twin Breakers all night at work during my graveyard shift tonight.

I wish Sony would make another handheld.

Bought one for Metal Gear Portable Ops. Game was shit and there wasn't anything else worthwhile on it at the time, so I got rid of it.

PSP is badly aged IMO.

My favourite PSP game was MotorStorm Arctic Edge.

Edit: This is why I much more prefer Xbox 360 and PS3 more than Wii, PSP and DS.

The PSP was one heck of a handheld. Incredible graphics for such a device back in 2004/05, and it ended up having a very respectable library too with some truly great games.

It's just a shame that the huge piracy problem it faced throughout its time on the market influenced Sony in making a poor design decision regarding the Vita's proprietary storage format.

Jesus, 15 years ago? I'm old.

Never into portables (except grudgingly to play certain Nintendo games/remakes I can't get any other way) but it was a cool system. Big sales, solid library, first(?) handheld that didn't get crushed to powder by GameBoy/DS.

My brother used to own a PSP. I don't remember him playing it as much as other consoles. He did however a hack to get free access to a huge library of games...

I was all about the DS during that time, and I wish I'd bought one and a bunch of games for it because they can be super rare and expensive today. I do own a Vita and have gotten to play most of the PSP games so only my collector side missed out.

I loved mine back in the day, I used it a lot in high school for music as well as playing lots of games. I still take it with me for flights or long trips when I know I’ll have time to kill.

I bought it around launch, but I rarely used it compared to the DS. Plus, some of the stuff that I would like, such as Valkyria Chronicles 3 and Yakuza: Blank Panther 1 & 2, were not localized. With that said, my favorite game for the PSP would have to be Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X.

Mine is pretty decent, it doesn’t hold a charge for more than a couple hours, but no leaking or swelling which I heard is what happens to most of them. And mine is the OG PSP 1000 fat lol.

Absolutely loved my PSP. The PSP/DS era was perhaps the greatest (pre-switch) era for handheld gaming.

In fact I was a bit more into the PSP than I was with the DS. On top of my head I loved the MGS/GTA/Wipeout games. But I also hacked mine to install homebrew and emulators making it the ultimate portable gaming machine.

Ahhh good ol' PSP.

Fun facts:

Back in the day the PSP was the secondary handheld console to my primary handheld console, the Nintendo DS.

My favorite game on the PSP was Lumines. I double-dipped on Lumines years down the line by re-buying it on the Switch.

I didn't appreciate the PSP as much as I should have back in the day, because looking back I actually miss having the PSP.

I remember how hyped everyone was for it, but it ended up being pretty bad as a gaming handheld, with those super long load times and proprietary storage.

However, it was a great media player, which is what everyone eventually used it as.

I feel like the games didn't get interesting until later in its life cycle. I wouldn't mind FF Tactics WoL to be ported to PC.

Own the PSP-1001.

It's hacked and was probably one of my favorite portal systems next to the gameboy advance SP.

Loved it. I would be playing mine now but the battery died and the cheap knockoffs that are being sold now are no good. Luckily the psp lets you play with no battery as long as it's plugged in. I just don't like bing tethered so I haven't touched it in a while.
