The Outer worlds - Probably the best RPG ever made?

So this new game outer worlds just released and before the release i was looking forward to this game but never though it would turn out to be this good.

So i played some of out words and currently playing it. My goodness the combat is so damn good and smooth. i feel like this is first RPG ever made which have awesome combat. I remember combat in Mass effect, elder scrolls, fallout and witcher have awful combat mechanics or gunplay. this on other hand feel like im playing some kind of FPS. as its FPS/RPG i mean.

design wise its not open world game but level design is vast open or semi sandbox. the best kind of level design i prefer. as most open world bored me.

so apart from Deus Ex and System shock which are more of immersive sim. this is by far best RPG game I have ever played in my life. and in 20 years of my gaming experience.

kudos to obsidian, you guys did fantastic job.

No. It's quite excellent from what i've played, maybe i'll wait to get in a little more before I judge. I do love the little things, like characters reacting to what you're wearing armour-wise, for example.

gameplay is super smooth here. maybe First person prespective help it.

but the combat. i never expect it to be good especially for RPG standard. sure its no FEAR or Doom combat but for RPG standard its amazing.

It's refreshing for a game NOT to be open world.

Great game and I'm lovin' it, but a few things hold it back from being the best ever. Lacks some of the content that normally fills these types of games. It's also not really an open world with fully explorable environments.

Well with that glowing heads up from Ghost - I'm all in. Must buy it this week !

Among the best games this year have been new IP's (The Outer Worlds and Astral Chain), but best RPG ever? Let's get past that honeymoon phase.

I wouldn't call it that, but it is pretty good from what I have played so far. I love the absurdity of its universe.

The dialog options are great especially with companions however the skill points are useless. The upgrades for things aren't great either. I'm loving everything else though, the story and settings reminds me a lot of firefly.

@Yams1980: There is Ultrawide but not in fullscreen mode. I just use borderless fullscreen.

4. OK I'm getting bored now. Getting repetitive and trees don't break. Doom Eternal is promised messiah.

It's good and I was totally blown away for the first 10 hours, but the flaws are starting to emerge.

With that said, it's a great RPG as far as character interaction, character building, world building, and all that stuff goes. Obsidian has always been good at that, especially dialogue choice.

Not gonna lie though: I miss VATS. Quantum Time whatever is fun but I do wish they had that active-pause, set-up-your-shot system in this game.

I think it's the best action-RPG we have had for a long time. But best ever? Not quite.

It is definitely the RPG Fallout 4 should have been imo. The only thing Fallout does "better" is scale and scope, but that is also a drawback as the world of Fallout 4 lacks the detail and focus that Outer Worlds has.

Yeah, it has my preferred level design approach; large, but instanced, zones that are not fully open-world.

I feel it still allows for a lot of exploration and emergent gameplay, but it supports a lot more detail and focus than open-world games have.

I will say this, though; I do wish the zones were a bit larger. Dragon Age: Inquisition, for all it's faults, had this approach (instanced zones) but it was also large enough to give you that open-world feeling. Outer Worlds feels a bit small at times.

Still, I much prefer Outer Worlds approach to level design than Fallout 4 or Skyrim.

I think they wanted VATS but legally they couldn't. It's pretty similar.

You are still in the honeymoon phase :)! You need to complete the game, then let a month pass and then decide if it was the best ever.

I fall for this every time. Like RDR2. First it was like: "wow this is the most incredible game of all times". Then after a while: "the shootouts are not that fun" and then after finishing: "this game was incredible tedious and a pain to suffer through".

For all of you scoffing at the "best ever" claim, I note none have you have suggested an alternative....?

Made my character, played a little, killed some people, got to a town, talked to people, ran some errands. All that took about 3 hours, made me bored and started playing something else. It's probably good, not sure yet. Will probably not play much more of it, though, since it's longer than I plan paying for game pass, and I don't think I'd buy the game.

I'll stick to Underrail for the time being, no point picking this shit up, and it's Epic Store as well which is an automatic no no.

Still think they could have been far more daring with a new IP. It just wreaks of un-originality.

there has not been any RPG that has gameplay this good. ever in history.

especially looks at mediocre overrated ones like mass effect and witcher..

The Outer World is a great game. It's pretty much the full package.

• Good stats and character building worthy of a few play throughs.
• Interesting narrative and choices. Well written characters.
• It looks great. Exploration is rewarding. Lots of loot.
• Combat is very good, especially when compared to the Bethesda Fallout games.
• Time mechanic adds a layer of strategy to encounters.
• No sleazy industry practices.
• Funny corporate satire.

I wish they would have changed up the visual aesthetic. It's too much like Fallout. I don't think the 50's style works well in space. Giant industrial computers everywhere just seem out of place. They had a chance to really differentiate this IP from Fallout in a few ways that would have fit better with the space theme. I don't hate it though.

I never got the chance to play it yet but from what I've seen: it looks pretty good. It feels like the true sequel to Fallout 3(take that as you will) but that kinda puts me off. Your character doesn't talk and interaction with other npcs isn't in realtime.

Hey, Toyota makes good, solid, reliable cars. And so many different models to fit whatever your needs may be.

Same. It's great, but definitely not the best ever made. I'm still sitting on the 8.5 setting. Not sure I'd give it a 9 just yet.

How many hours on RDR2?

Honestly, any open world or RPG game feels like a chore towards the end of 100+ hours or whatever. I basically feel like quitting gaming every time I finish off 100+ hour RPG or open world type game. RDR2 was still brillaint though, but like any game of it's ilk it was a massive time sink. Playing Poker inside RDR2 is Like inception of video game time wasting, but I probably did that for at least like 10 hours while playing it.

Also Nintendo don't actually have different models to suit your needs as they don't do racing games, unless you consider MK, which I don't.
