[QUOTE="charizard1605"][QUOTE="locopatho"][QUOTE="nintendoboy16"] Considering a Wii turns into a GameCube when playing a GameCube game, that isn't surprising.

The Wii was a Gamecube though, more or less, while the WiiU is a much more powerful machine.

While true, Nintendo's solution for backwards compatibility has always been to do it natively (as opposed to emulation, that would add the enhancements you are talking about): the Gameboy Advance booted up as a Gameboy Color to play GB/GBC games. The DS booted up as a GBA to play GBA games. The 3DS boots as a DSi to play DS and DSi games. It's how they do it, for good or for bad.

Interesting, thank you :)

Yep. Same with the Gameboy Advance, the DS, and the 3DS. It's how Nintendo handles backwards compatibility.

Well, at least it works though and that's good enough for me.

There are pros and cons to both approaches. For doing it at the natively, the pros are that every game ever made for the previous system will work without glitches and bugs; all features and functionality will be supported, all controls and accessories will be supported. The cons are that there are no enhancements, the game literally runs as it was and it might appear ugly on the new platform (see DS games on 3DS, for example). For doing it via emulation, every game may not be supported, and there might be bugs and glitches, unexpected behaviors for some software. However, you can visually enhance the games, and add functions like uprezzing, filters, etc.

And personally, I prefer the former despite the "ugliness" as at least I'll be able to play the game.

Yes, it just comes down to personal preference then; it's not like backwards compatibility as a feature matters much after the first few months of a system's life cycle anyway.

The more I think of it, the more I think the basic set is better than the deluxe. Nintendoland is not all that intriguing to me, I doubt I will need those plastic stands, and I would expand the memory space externally in either version. I prefer black to white but that's hardly a deal breaker. White looks better over time too.

That comment was made on the assumption that the console itself has a library worth giving a damn beyond a couple of games :P

ZombiU: Epic single player

New Super Mario Bros. U: Awesome single player and local multiplayer

Nintendo Land: Awesome local multiplayer

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2: Awesome online multiplayer

I think my WiiU will be busy for quite some time. By the time I get bored with those games Pikmin 3 and the Wonderful 101 should be out. Then shortly atfter will be Bayonetta 2. E3 will happen and then we will be set for the holidays! Looks like a great first year to me!

Meh... $50 more and you get a game, more memory, a black console, and that membership to that Nintendo thing. I dont mind spending the few extra dollars :)

That's how I see it, I would love a black one and NintendoLand for that matter but if they only have the basic model come December, I'll settle with the basic model.

First Wii U review

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge IGN Review

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razors Edge might be the polar opposite of the usual Nintendo fare. The M rating on the box is not a joke, what with the hyper-fast ninja action titles unending display of severed limbs and decapitated heads. Its fantastic to see this kind of hardcore gamers game on a Nintendo console and at the Wii Us launch, no less and you can forget much of what you may have heard about the original release of this game earlier this year on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Its far from perfect and best viewed with launch goggles on, but Razors Edges unflinching action and unabashed violence is a great sign for the Wii U as a core gamers platform.

SCORE: 7.6/10

It blows my mind when I hear some people saying this is the Dreamcast of this generation,it may be from a chronological standpoint but just by looking at the games themselves, the Dreamcast was head and shoulders way superior to what you had seen on the PSX,Saturn and N64,the WiiU just looks the same thing,in some cases even worse than current gen consoles. :(

"Speaking of controllers, Razors Edge might seem like a $60 game, but you should really budget another $50 on top of that, as a Pro Controller is practically (but not technically) required here. While the systems signature Wii U GamePad is plenty ergonomic, its simply not a good fit, literally, for the kind of action Ninja Gaiden 3 throws at you. And as far as the GamePads screen goes, its not put to much use, with a moves list for the equipped weapon on display before you rather than tucked away in a menu."
