RUMORED SPECS FOR PROJECT CAFE:

This is it folks- Nintendo are jumping head on into HD, and kickstarting the eighth generation of gaming. The successor to the Wii is set to be revealed this E3, multiple sources have claimed, and it will be 'done right,' claim these sources, 'not a gimmick like the Wii.' Set to launch in 2012, the system will feature full backwards compatibility with the Wii, although it is unknown if it will carry the Wii branding.

The catch is that when Nintendo was contacted for information by Game Informer, they did not say the usual we do not respond to speculation and rumors.... instead, they said 'stay tuned for E3.' This is it, folks. This is as big as it gets. Nintendo is all set to unveil their latest system- what will it be like? Sound off, people!

Since then, the rumor mills have gone absolutely bersek. Over the past one week, so many rumors have been going around about the Project Cafe.

So let's get some of them out of the way:

• More powerful than the Xbox 360 and PS3
• Streams output at 1080p
• May or may not be stereoscopic 3D enabled right out of the box
• The controller will have an HD touch scren along with the entire button setup of the Gamecube. The touch screen will make the system act like a gigantic Nintendo DS
• Rockstar has a development kit for the system, and Grand Theft Auto V will be a launch title
• DICE has a development kit for the system and Battlefield 3 will be a launch title for the system.
• Retro has a development kit for the system, and is working on a sequel to a beloved game - rumors point to it being either Star Fox or Eternal Darkness 2.
• The system will be priced $350-$400, and could be released as early as October this year.
• The system will not carry the Wii branding.
• The system will be fully backwards compatible with the Wii
• The system willnot use friend codes.
• Miyamotohas confirmed the existence of the system, saying there is no smoke without fire.

You can easily make a small, compact system thats way better than the PS3/360. Nintendo knew the main problems developers had with the system and are fixing to remedy that.

Bout time Zelda is played in HD though...legally.

I think Sony and Microsoft had the right idea of making HD consoles with the proliferation of HDTVs and digital broadcast TV. Nintendo is going to be late to the party and this only gives Sony and MS more reason to sit on the fence and make more powerful systems.

I hope the Kotaku rumor is just a guess on its name. As much as I love the Wii, I want them to drop the brand. It would show a new direction, which I hope is true in this generation.

If this is true, then I'll buy my first Nintendo console since the N64.

I'd imagine it will only be slightly more powerful than PS3 and 360 and the next PS and XBOX will end up being a gen ahead of it again, but its fine, HD nintendo games sooner or later are good enough. 110million

That was pretty much my prediction on what they would do this time around -- being at least slightly more powerful than the PS3 would definitely be acceptable. But I just don't see why Nintendo can't play the PS2 role of last gen and simply make slightly weaker hardware of whatever MS and Sony come up with for their next gen consoles.

Give me 720P HD resolution, better online, PS3/360 graphics and an internal HDD for the downloadable games and I'm fine.

You'd think they would have made Zelda Skyward Sword a launch title if they were planning on releasing a new console soon. What's another year if it means your new console launches with a killer app?

As long as they keep with the motion controls only I still won't bother to look at Nintendo. I had my Wii for a very long time and never played it because the motion control crap just aint for me. I finally sold the thing because it was catching dust for like 2 or 3 years. Anyways, it be cool to get Nintendo games in HD graphics that LOOK good, bu as long as the wii-mote stays the controller I'm not touching this console.

Lol if it isn't more powerful than the 360 or PS3 then Nintendo will get raped by the 720, PS4. I think that Nintendo will deliver though, I don't think it willbeat 720 or PS4 in graphics but I do think that it will be able to play multiplat games unlike the wii

Hearing as powerful or more than the PS3.

It better not be as powerful as the 360/PS3 or it's gonna be the same problem when Sony's and Microsoft's next consoles come out. It's an absolute must they release something more powerful than the current-gen, something only equal just won't cut it. Of course when the time comes for the PS4 and Xbox720, those will most likely beat it in power but atleast it wouldn't be a gen behind.

I fear Nintendo will only settle for something equal tho or if it's more powerful it won't be by much. You'd think they'd learn after so many times but I'm not getting my hopes up.
