"I will talk more about [The Legend of Zelda Wii U] at E3 2014."

Possibly the most anticipated Wii U title (even though it has never been announced) is the console's installment in Nintendo's premier franchise, The Legend of Zelda. With Aonuma having talked about big changes coming to the franchise, including a new progression structure, and an open world, the title is sure to draw a lot of interest and attention (especially after the 2011 E3 tech demo).

This announcement alone would win E3 for me.

"Following the immense success of Super Mario Galaxy and Pokemon Black and White and their respective numbered sequels, we shall be releasing The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword 2! On top of that, we'll be redoing The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword in HD for the Wii U! Welcome to the year of Skyward Sword!"

I'm not sure if that quote means they will reveal it. They might just be planning on giving us a snibbit of information and that's it. I really hope we get to see some game play though.

Hmm I liked the Wiimote+ controls on SS but I guess they will go with the gamepad this time? And I guess I'm the only one that likes the current progression structure. It's old but it's still unique. Kinda.

I heard a while ago the dungeons are going to be the size of Hyrule field from previous games. If true this is going to have crazy scale, perhaps bigger than Xenoblade II.

Sounds cool. I'm excited to see what Nintendo is doing too. Knowing Nintendo though, it will ultimately come down too, "Sorry we couldn't quite get it ready, but instead we'll just say it's awesome and show you this concept art that doesn't represent the game!".

i figured they would show something late this year. this sucks. now i have to wait 8 more damn months.

ive been a nintendo fan my whole life, but now nintendo is angering me to no end. first, with the dead-end Wii. then with the horrible Wii-U launch. and then, just when i think ill be getting to see the one amazing game the wii-u might have, the trailer is delayed.

I would be immensely disappointed if it was as linear as Skyward Sword.

Nah it won't be top down like A Link Between Worlds. This Zelda will be open world (and co-op) from what Aonuma has said and will likely show what the U is capable of.

Well they've already "talked about it", so in that sense you can't say it will be a reveal. Depending on how you define reveal, it has either already been revealed, or it has yet to be confirmed when the reveal will happen. They might only talk about it like they have been doing anyway.

Yeah true. I'd blame the hardware but then I look at The Last Story...... If Mistwalker can pull it off, so can Nintendo.

That is very optimistic

The last zelda took 6 years to make, so we would see a new Zelda in 2013+6 = 2019 or maybe 2018 if they started development soon after Zelda SS

2018 is so far away, that a reveal this E3 would seem like a bad joke

Also Zelda SS took 6 years with the mediocre graphics and near zero detail in 3D world because of the non existent Wii hardware, the WiiU graphics should be a lot better and that means it may take well over 6 years for this one, maybe it goes up to 8+ years

@loosingENDS: Why 2013+6? Skyward Sword was 2011+6 = 2017. Don't count WW because that exists for their training purposes with the hardware (+easy cash in for the Wii U, it only took 6 months to develop, and I'm sure a lot of that time also allowed them to develop tools to be used for the new Zelda).

Also, based on original 3D console Zelda titles:
1998: OoT
2000: MM
2003: WW
2006: TP
2011: SS

The intervals are roughly 2, 3, 3, 5. So I don't know where you're getting 6 years from. Maybe you're trying to predict the trend? I don't there is enough data to do that. It's definitely possible for the new Zelda to be released in 2015, meaning a 4 year interval. 2018 or 2019 is a 7 or 8 year interval, which is far too long. I don't think the hardware will hold them back that long, given that they're releasing WW for practice as well as a tech demo.

My personal prediction is either late 2015 or late 2016.

You are right, it is 5 years

So, say they started in 2012 to make the next one, that would take it to 2017 the earliest, but since this is a true next gen title with vastly more demanding visuals, could well go to 2018 or even 2019

I strongly believe Zelda WiiU will be a lot like Zelda TP case, with a release on WiiU and WiiU2 at the same time

I do not count Zelda WW, but SS came late 2011, so the earliest to start WiiU Zelda is 2012

@superbuuman: I really hope they create a more open and alive Hyrule. Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword were great games but were no longer "BEST GAME EVER!" quality like Link To The Past, Ocarina, Majora, and Windwaker, at least for me. If they get back on form with Zelda U I'll buy a WiiU.

Yeah, seems to me like the best Zelda games were open-world. A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Windwaker.

Make the next one open world, with those WiiU Demo graphics, a ton of detail to explore, and a foreign, alien voice acting similar to Panzer Dragoon. And that is gonna be the best fucking Zelda game yet.

@Lucianu: and that's what you'll never get. Actually, you might but it'll probably be in 2030 at the rate Nintendo moves.

I'd be VERY surprised If we saw Zelda U before 2016. I predict holiday 2016. Hell, maybe even early/mid 2017. And it won't even be all that impressive either.

So it goes.

WiiFit U is the most anticipated title on the WiiU.

Better be a new Link, no sequels, no rehash of WW Link or TP/SS Link design. New. Link.

True. I think 2017 is a reasonable guess. 2018 is possible too. I think anything beyond is pushing it though. I'm sticking to Q4, 2016.

This is the first time i'm not going to get hyped for Zelda, but I still hope for the best.

I can't expect too much after SS, but at least Aonuma has acknowledged a lot that was wrong with the game.

Hopefully they'll have an actual conference next year. Their showing was pathetic this year. So in terms of their lineup it looks like:

February 2014: Donkey Kong

April 2014: Mario Kart 8

Fall 2014: X

Fall 2014: Bayonetta 2

Fall 2014: Yoshi Yarn

Somewhere in between: Smash Bros

I guess Zelda will be their big Holiday 2015 title. Hopefully it won't rely on waggle but knowing Current Nintendo there will be some gimmick with it.

@1oh1nine1: Be prepared for disappoint. "New" is a word you only use to describe LoZ when you mean "another."

And is this what's going to fix the Wii U this time?

So everyone hates skyward sword now? It's just there was a major backlash on this site when it was given a 7.5.

Everyone has hated Skyward Sword since roughly about a month after its release. The backlash was before the game had even released and everyone had gotten to see what a steaming pile of shit it was.

Hopefully they'll have an actual conference next year. Their showing was pathetic this year. So in terms of their lineup it looks like:

February 2014: Donkey Kong

April 2014: Mario Kart 8

Fall 2014: X

Fall 2014: Bayonetta 2

Fall 2014: Yoshi Yarn

Somewhere in between: Smash Bros

If A Link Between Worlds is anything to go by, I would say that Zelda Wii U will also be 'pure.'

The Wii U has not had a single system selling 'saving' title launch for it yet; the first title to launch for it that fulfills that description will be Mario in December.
