The Last Of Us Part 2 pre-orders are breaking previous record figures

The Last of Us Part II is poised to do very well, if the game's pre-order figures are anything to go by.

The Last of Us Part II is finally almost upon us, with its June 19 release date inching ever closer. The game, which has faced delays and leaking plot details, is still tracking very well, according to Sony--and, in fact, could end up breaking sales records.

According to PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, who spoke to GameSpot sister site CNET ahead of Sony's upcoming PlayStation 5 reveal, The Last Of Us Part II is likely to sell big numbers. In Europe, pre-orders are tracking ahead of Marvel's Spider-Man at the same comparative point before that game's release. That's significant, because that game broke records for Sony, selling 3.3 million copies within 3 days of release, and earning over 1 million pre-orders.

It's not clear what the split is here between physical and digital preorders, although digital sales are up across the board for games--especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Well yes I think in real life almost nobody saw the leaks or is even aware of their copyright abuse. Probably 'helped' that most gaming media conveniently kept quiet about it.

I also don't think the story leaks necessarily kill the game. We still don't know for sure what the story of the final product is like.

And in terms of gameplay itself it looks pretty solid if you're into this type of game.

yeah i know the game play looks like the most fluid game play i have ever seen. (god i can't wait to see what they do with the ps5) remember game play is the most important part of a game even xbox fans say this but then attack this game because of story ignoring the awesome game play.

Digital preorders are worth it for big games so you can preload the game instead of buying at release and having to contend with slow downloads of 50GB+ due to slammed servers.

You can bet that PSN will be slow at release, as does every digital distribution platform

what about servers? what happens if millions try to download at the same time? server overload. this is why most of the time pre-orders get to download the day before it gets on sony store. pre orders get to play a day earlier.

Not a ND fan. With that said I hope this game breaks record sales.

I have a couple of bets here, can't wait to laugh my ass off in a couple of days. This board will be full of conspiracy theorists as to why the game sold 5 million plus in a week and has a 93+ metascore. :)

most people outside of internet are casuals who can be impressed by any shiny thing over core gameplay so make sense.

Regardless of the leaks, and all the back-and-forth, this game is going to sell. Personally, i'm on the fence about ND as a whole, but even seeing and somewhat disagreeing with the leaks, i'm buying the game to give it a fair shake.

Yes. the shooting, the soundtrack, the atmosphere make it much above last of us 2 which is SJW game.

I mean, I'm fairly certain the article isn't talking about any significant sales records, since TLOU2 isn't going to sell as quickly as Animal Crossing.

Me neither. I personally don't expect TLOU2 surpassing New Horizons but TLOU2 is one of the anticipated PS4 titles fans been waiting for and the same could be said for Ghost of Tsushima especially since that's a new IP game. I'm excited for both PS4 exclusives.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the "leaks" were completely intentional. Play on people's emotions by making them feel sorry for the companies predicament while at the same time giving all the sympathizers and SJ crowd plenty of time to learn about the game and be ready day one.

I'm not saying it WAS intentional, I'm just saying it really wouldn't surprise me.

I honestly didn't need another TLoU game and could have lived with the way it ended but now that Part II is almost here, I am pretty excited about it.

Are you European? I mean they act like Soccer is good when its actually crap, so we know they have terrible taste. And I wouldn't trust any exec, especially one from Sony.

Most people haven't seen the leaks and are expecting another good story with Joel and Ellie. Sony has marketed it as such.

I expect alot of people are going to be pissed by the end.

Also who wouldn't think the game will score well? It's progressive message will have some critics giving it a 10 for that alone.

This is when MC comes in handy. If it's get 10's from reviewers but 4's from players. Then you'll know somethings up.

I thought they are going to give it a high rating for the same reason they gave the last movie game trash a high rating, so they can pretend to be movie reviewers and possibly move on to a real career.

I'm looking forward to it. Judge the game based on it's merits. If people are unhappy with the narrative that's fine, but form that opinion by playing it.
