The Last of Us 2 2019 announcement delayed until later 2019

It was originally slated to appear on today's State of Play to commemorate the first of Sony's directs. However, they pulled it last second to not steal Days Gone's thunder.

The 2019 release date announcement will happen later in 2019. Analysts predict it'll be around E3 time so that Microsoft doesn't hog all the good news, however a late autumn reveal could be in the books as well.

Sony wanted to set your expectations really low with this direct so the next one blows you away. Stay tuned!

Even if TLOU2 doesn't make it this year, at least I still have Days Gone & Ghost of Tsushima look forward to.

Having watched the SoP stream, there was no chance TLOU2 was slated to appear among that riff raff. The update was intended to be as low key as possible.

@Basinboy: I'm not sure what Sony was expecting though. They were quiet all this time and their first piece of news turned out to be that. Why bother doing it at all? I don't think many people were eager to hear about a bunch of small VR titles. It just disappointed a lot of their fans (the YouTube dislike ratio reflects that).

@XVision84: Gamers were expecting release dates on both Ghost of Tsushima & TLOU2 and nothing more. But they sure wasn't expecting anything reporting on Death Stranding since that game is nowhere near complete as TLOU2 for that matter. Don't get me wrong, it's nice Sony is supporting VR in the end, but the leaks teasing release dates sure hurt everyone's expectations.

TLOU2 is gonna get delayed for PS5 launch.

Would be cool if Nintendo and Sony actually both do a Direct during E3. I mean....why not right? The world of gamers are all paying attention during those days and they could promote without paying the crazy E3 fees.

The game never had a release date so it can't be delayed. TLOU 2 "could" release 2019 but it has just as much if not more chance to release 2020 along side PS5.

The answer to this thread is you don't know anything about when TLOU2 is coming and were just making silly uninformed guesses and owned yourself.

I can't build hype for this game no matter how much I try.... The first last of us is a masterpiece... Cant get excited for a sequel.

The original wasn't that good. Like a 3 outta 5. I also just don't care that much for Ellie as a protagonist. Had more fun with the Resident Evil 2 remake.

I enjoyed it a lot on PS3 so interested to see if I get the same feeling when replaying on PS4. I have no problems with Elle she was an interesting character who's character developed increasingly as the game went on in my opinion.

Days Gone will have releaed, set the world on fire with millions of sales. And then Sony could have introduced this cool new way to show off their work that isn't a live conference with sweet bands and mood lights.
