Source: https://www.gamebyte.com/the-last-of-us-joel-is-more-villain-than-hero-says-troy-baker/

Joel's actions will place him in a moral grey area and continue the tradition of masterful writing by Naughty Dog. This echoes Troy Bakers previous statements that we "are not ready" for TLOU2.

Discuss how excited you are for TLOU2. Negative messages will result in an immediate ban.

I played TLOU and 4 hours in it was still boring as hell. Long walking sections through crumbled buildings and I think a metro station and a mansion. Lots of plank carrying and barely any combat zones.

Not interested if Naughty Dog is more interested in telling a story than delivering a good game.

Not all that excited. First game was good and I think it gets too much flack as a movie game when it has a reasonable amount of depth given it’s simple as systems (read having some depth and being a deep game are two different things, besides you frauds gas up shitty shallow games all the time. Fake ass elitists),

But I can’t bring myself to be all that excited for another one. Especially with the worry that it’s gonna double down on the walking n cinematic shit like UC4 and have rubbish pacing. That and Naughty Dogs story telling while reasonably well written in the case of druckmanns shit, tends to be fairly derivative. So day one, but I'm not exactly hyped. More measured.

@Juub1990: TLOU had good shooting mechanics and there were great conversations/banter during those plank platforming sections that built character development.

@jg4xchamp: Uncharted was always about the big cinematic moments. TLOU is more down to earth and the gameplay trailer looked better than previous ND titles.

It’s going to be awesome.

Normally in video games I always try to the right thing, but if this game gives me the option to do evil stuff, I am going to do it.

@XVision84: you can do character development without bringing the pace of a game down to a snails crawl.

Cinematic isn’t exclusively Big Bang explosion shit, it’s all the meandering, walking, n nothing you do in Sony games like auncharted, last of us, and more recently Dad of War. Albeit Dad of War was reasonably good if a bit of a step down from the Greek games.

Last of us gameplay footage looked like nothing. A lot of heavy scripting and “mah realism” animations. I ain’t you n mirku, my idea of depth n good mechanics don’t revolve around “mah immersion” as much as it revolves on meaningful game states.

And while I appreciate the gameplay in TLOU enough, the part where you can just miss randomly because yolo is dumb.

Thats exactly why i stopped playing. One of the users on here, mirko i believe, pointed some stuff out about when the game finally gets going, which sounded interesting. So i may give it another try. Still, any game that strips control for that amount of time? The opening literally felt like an hour long cutscene.

Also, i may be in the minority on this but i find that many action games do the same thing, in that theres far too many breaks or the camera shifts like a cutscene, essentially killing that gameplay zone. The first bayonetta does it, and even a lot of the "best" 3d action games too. I prefer things nonstop where you are presented with a level and thats the segment. People rag on The Order, but i found the gameplay segments to be better than most other cover based tps games. That game has a very unique feel but damn those walking sections lol

And this affects gameplay...how?

Hopefully it’ll make for a decent YouTube view. Gameplay wise? The original was nothing to brag about.

You know I have the ability to nuke your account right? If you decide to back down you're own bet. But hey, it can release November 2020 for all I care. TLOU2 isn't my hype PS4 game but no doubt I'll play it on release day.

Gonna be a 7/10, like the first game.

Shooting mechanics were too automated to be good. I hate that you can't turn off the aim assist/target tracking. You can see it even in the sequel trailer.

@jg4xchamp: The walking isn't nothing, it builds immersion and places you in the shoes of the characters. It makes the game feel more grounded. You like DMC a lot, but that game has little to no emotional depth imo. I couldn't care less what happens to nero or dante. It's a give and take, I think GoW struck the best balance.

Also who is mirko?

@ezekiel43: I don't mind that on consoles since aiming with a joystick is just blekh. The shooting and movement have a satisfying "weight" to it without feeling clunky.

Loved Naughty Dogs story writing and I am expecting to be really entertained by the sequel. Always thought the game mechanics to be strong idk what these people saying.

I just hoping this time could sneak pass people mgs style instead of being forced to clear rooms in some maps.

If it has choices, then that'll be good. The first was purely a one-and-done affair. It was pretty good, but absolutely zero reason to play through a second time.

I played it 4 times already lol.

  • PS3-2 times.
  • PS4-2 times.

Truth be told, TLOU should have been the true one-and-done game and Naughty Dogs at least could have done something newer, I'm not even hype to play the new one.

Button Prompt morality, lmao....

Sorry I think I'll wait for an actual choice and consequence with real gameplay ramifications like Cyberpunk or Outerplanets. Not a movie game, lmao.

I agree, I didn't have much fun with it either, and it didn't hold my interest long enough to care. I know people swear by it and say it's a great game and the multiplayer is fun, but I had a similar experience with that as well.

When I played the first game I thought wait a minute this movie game actually kick ass in this gameplay thing. This is fine but its the wrong focus I fear. I sometimes try to fight sw folks here about that gameplay. That potential that is not in a bunch of shitty games they play. I give up I think ND are doubling down on there teh story feeling fame.

I just hope they fixed that goofy companion A.I. Y’all talking about immersion sure like to ignore that immersion breaking garbage. And like others have stated, the Naughty Dog pacing can be a deal breaker as well. I don’t know why people think ND games are fun. They’re barely video games. They’re more like those FMV “games” from the 16-bit era. Except those were kinda charming...

lol no it doesn't, it treats you like a toddler and assumes you're too fucking stupid to process the story being told. Better games with better stories have done in game chatter, without thinking less of their player. You should play more video games.

@XVision84 said:

Also who is mirko?

DMC has no pretense of wanting to be all sappy n super serious, but Devil May Cry is a far far far far far far FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR better game than either Dad of War or Uncharted. There are still to this day people discovering new tricks n tech they can use for a combo in Devil May Cry 3 and 4, and I guarantee you that will be the case a decade from now for DMC5. No one is discovering shit for games like The last of us or God of war, because there isn't shit to find.

It's fine if you like a shallower game with a narrative carrot but this myth that story telling is some end all be all, because gamings community has an ugly step child syndrome issue of needing to be reject movies is not a disease I suffer from. I'm far more into games that are deep, and Devil May Cry and its ilk are far richer experiences than a psuedo stealth/third person cover shooter with light survival elements.

One of the posters on here? mirko? mirku? whatever.

Ive already explained how ND excel at writing, graphics and getting great VO from actors.

And it makes their games cool AF. But Gameplay is my priority. Is said Morality a mechanic? Or is it written, performed and out of my, the gameplayer's hands?

Its fine if it's the latter. I don't question ND on the work they do. Ive been entertained by majority of what they've put out.

As usual, angry non-gamers and fanboys who praise mediocrity and brain dead bro shooters with zero depth are mad and pretending like they have higher standards while they're all playing generic broken indies and mindless battle royal games.

That means TLOU2 must be on the right track lol.

@jg4xchamp: I'm more than happy with the amount of video games I currently play lol. I know what you mean about DMC's gameplay depth. I beat it 3 times purely because of that and the awesome campaign. However it still didn't satisfy me nearly as much as TLOU and GoW.

and that's fine, I have no problem calling TLOU n Dad of War good. The bare minimum kind of good, but good none the less. You can certainly do worse: uncharted, elder snore, anything Rockstar, ahem The Witcher games.

But give me a gamey game any day. Give me a cinematic wankfest when I've built up the proper tolerance for it lol

@cainetao11: I agree with you. I'd actually prefer the decision not to be in my hands. This is because it leads to things like TLOU ending where people discuss the actions of the characters. It gives them distinct personalities rather than being proxies for your own decisions. We have enough of those already imo.

Not excited. I finished the first one on PS3 and I enjoyed it. I got the remaster on PS4 thinking I would go through it again but I got bored pretty fast. I have a feeling that the next one will be a one-and-done game as well.

@jg4xchamp: You just listed most of my favourite games ?. Add in dark souls/bloodborne + some indies and that's pretty much all of them.

I imagine an effective Champ torture machine would be forcing you to play through Heavy Rain and Detroit Become Human lol.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'd pump my breaks on expecting Feb 2020 release of TLOU2.

The more logical and most likely release will be May - June 2020.

Why?

Sony is rumored to have their Playstation event Feb 2020. They'll most likely reveal PS5 hardware and talk about current PS4 games that will be upgradede on PS5 hardware (I.E. TLOU 2..along with Final Fantasy VII Remake).

With this being the case they would still be in "hype" phase of TLOU 2. So the likely hood of TLOU2 releasing the same month is slim to none. Moreover, a date further away from holiday 2020 will extend PS4 sales during mid year.

Sony may announce a PS4 price drop along with their PS5 announcement.

You can hope for Feb 2020, but realistically it'll be May - June 2020.

I'm usually right about these things and people always get mad when I go back and point out that I predicted what would happen.

I played TLOU and 4 hours in it was still boring as hell. Long walking sections through crumbled buildings and I think a metro station and a mansion. Lots of plank carrying and barely any combat zones.

Not interested if Naughty Dog is more interested in telling a story than delivering a good game.

You fool. Gaming is more about storytelling than actual playing. :P
