I'm kind of lost on why some of you consider that a bad thing.
The "Greys" have been embedded into the North American subconscious for decades. It would only make sense that they were real in the world of XCOM.
Interestingly enough the perception of aliens are different in other parts of the world. For instance in Europe they are usually reported as being reptilian.

I never said it was a bad thing. I said they look cliche (which they do) and that the abstract aliens looked more interesting and threatening (which they did).
That is interesting indeed. What I find interesting about most alien designs in drawings, movies, etc... is how human-like they are. They all have two legs, two feet, two arms, two hands, ..., a head, though the head and eyes are usually bigger. If you take that away you basically got a human.
While if we take the theory of evolution in mind there is no way an alien race could be so human like. No way did the exact same circumstances happen on another planet for aliens to evolve in something so close to humans. Well that's my theory anyway. There are many other (perhaps more) interesting theories. :)
