The Best FPS single player level.

Ravenholm was really cool... the first time through. It kinda got old hat after that.

The maw was Great. :) I still remember amost every step of the way on legendary, and it was years ago. Stupid and annoying crate jumping puzzle spoiled the moment at the end, though, and especially after you'd only had to jump around twice in the game. It was great, but not the best.

I didn't play Call of Duty 3. I'm glad it came out, though: Call of Duty 2 got cheaper, so I bought it. I'm playing through that now.

I didn't play Far Cry, either. That game (or more precisely, the demo) has never worked on any computer I tried it on without glitching. I hear the water graphics are great! That sounds nice... unfortunately, the water had NO TEXTURE AT ALL on my 6200 TC, and looked like a giant crytech logo on my 7900 GS. With glitches like that, I never got the game.

So, "Other" is my choice. And I choose LIFE OF THE PARTY, from Thief 2. Thief isn't a First-Person-Shooter, it's a First-Person-Stealth game, but the acronym is still FPS. Anyway, Life of the Party was amazing: you started out traversing a veritable city of rooftops, with plenty of houses to rob and plunder along the way. Then you had to get into a HUMONGOUS tower, where you went through every floor and eventually crashed a party so stealthily that no one knew you were there. Then, after a suprise twist at the objective, you had to evade alert patrols back over the rooftops until you got to the safety of the bell tower. The only way to describe the experience would be "Wonderful."

Yeah, thats Maw. And this will please you, there will be a driving level near the end of Halo 3. Below is from this weeks Bungie Weekly Update.

"In September. But we've been playing all the way through the game for weeks now. Our favorite level at the moment (and it changes week by week) is the challenge presented by the very last level. Now the thing that sucks for us, is that we'll never be able to experience the game properly. It's just not practical or possible for us to sequester ourselves away from the Campaign game. We have to play it. But it's hardly torture either. And we can't tell you anything else about it.

Joe and I were taking turns at a driving challenge somewhere else in the game, created by Dan Miller, one of our Campaign designers. Now being backseat drivers AND backseat game designers, we gave him loads of awesome feedback. We can only imagine how grateful he was for it. In a very real way, he's lucky to have us.

Speaking of driving, I was trying a speed run on one of my other favorite levels (earlier one) which has a spot you're technically not supposed to get a vehicle across. This was slowing me down and cramping my sty1e so I used my top-secret new vehicle to nudge some bits of debris around to make a ramp. Massive justice! Leap achieved. When I reported this to that level's designer, Chris, he was all, "Well dur, how come it took you a year to figure that out?"

Sketch and Luke, meanwhile, have been trying out Legendary. Sketch was playing through the first level, while Luke tried one of the middle ones. "Jackals are jerks!" and "Even Lee can't throw a plasma that accurately!" are the yells coming from their monkeypit."

The intensity is a little lost after you play it for a second time or when you play it co-op (Google: Obsidian Conflict), but the first playthrough is an amazing experience.

Damn, tht was a great level - really exciting, scary, and just plain awesome all in one level. First time feral abilities kicked soo much ass. Then the first time fighting Beanman I stayed in that little control room that you release him from for about 5 minutes because I was so totally scared sh*tless. I walked out of that place as slow as possible and got soo totally freaked out. Then the fight with him was climactic as hell, it was like playing a test - finding out if feral Jack could take on that beast... so satisfying to kill it with your hands... I'm still amazed at how they were able to make a bright, sunny level so f***ing scary and cool.

i preferred the halo 2 E3 demo level (New Mombasa) to any of the levels in the actual game

I can't remember its name, but the Halo2 level that starts with you in a tank and you have to cross the bridge with Banshees and .... just found it: Metropolis. Nice and varied and set at a good pace.
