Switch or PS4 - which was system of the year for 2017?

I think Switch takes 2017 easy.

I would pick the Switch in 2017 alone over the entire lifespan of the PS4. The Switch had the best single year of any gaming console in at least the last decade.

Honestly, given that games like Horizon and Persona are definitely not my cup of tea and I would not want to play them even if they were given to me for free, the PS4 in 2017 wasn't anything that special to me and collected dust for most of the year. I'd even have to put it behind Xbox One since there were two Xbox One games that I loved in 2017 whereas there was only one 2017 game that I loved on my PS4. The Switch was better than both of them combined.

Every one here knows that I’m a PS4 and pc gamers, except for the lems, because they can’t stand that I have pc that runs circles around their precious Xb1x . But my gaming device of 2017 goes to the Switch, I love that device

PS4. Switch has two masterpieces, but PS4 had dozens of amazing games.

The Witch also had a lot of amazing games besides Odyssey and BotW, like Rabbits, Xenoblade or Splatoon

The 'problem' with the Switch will never be the exclusives (Nintendo have those locked) but the third party support.

Depends what you mean " locked ". Because when Sony was going hard with exclusives with PS3, Wii was in life support/dead. When Sony with PS4 still going hard after 4 years with exclusives, Wii U is already dead for a while with 1 exclusive worth to mention , BOTW that is.

Everything is subjective except numbers. PS4 does have much more quality games, but you are free to prefer 2 brilliant games over 20 great ones of course.

You can like whatever you want but when we talking about problems and whats "locked" we need to take into consideration everything befoire we start praising or hype. Because if Switch end up being another Wii and go into life support in its 3rd/4th year max then what exclusives you gonna play you think ?

Nintendo releases 2 great games and people imediately think that alone is enough to surpass over 30 good ones...

Its not only exclusives that count, ya kno? And even on that front the PS4 still had a higher number of (considered) "good" exclusives than the Switch had.

PS4 was the better system, at least when it comes to games it objectively was. But these type of threads are always cows vs everyone else so I'm not surprised by the poll in the slightest

Switch hands down. Look at the titles it got this year:

- Breath of the Wild
- Mario Odyssey
- Splatoon 2
- Arms
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Mario and Rabbids (which was great)
- Xenoblade Chronicles 2

That's a pretty healthy list of games which most scored really well. Personally, I love having a portable Binding of Isaac and Thumper.

Switch, no question. Better games and releases, was selling out everywhere, broke sales records.

For different reasons and the same reasons if that makes any sense.

Switch is fastest selling console in US history for time frame.

PS4 is selling faster than PS2 which was the highest selling console of all time.

Both had amazing games with multiple GOTY caliber titles to choose from and both had amazing sales.

The only looses here are these people who didn't own at least one of these systems in 2017.

PS4 no question. It killed it this year, just like previous years, with a fantastic lineup of games. Switch has, uhm, two games that 8 year olds might enjoy.

Yup. I'd still say PS4 had the better year. There were damn near too many titles to keep up with.

And great list @Vatusus 2017 definitely went to PS4 imo. Still need to pick up Nier Automata, Yakuza 0, and Yakuza Kiwami

PS4. But the Switch came really close.--if they had a bit more third party support and sensible online features, they'd have taken it easily.

PS4 due to the sheer volume of games. I haven’t had so many quality games thrown at me in a single year since the PS2 era. Switch had a fantastic year too of course due to Mario and Zelda being incredible.

I see there is no mention of XBone and for good reason but PC won 2017. Out of those two listed though ill go with PS4 because it had more good games. Switch had the best game of any system this year by far though.

I mean check Wii U and its 2014 releases. Everyone was praising the system, everyone was laughing on PS4 for not having better exclusives with the motto " PS4 has no games " etc. Few years later Wii U is dead, PS4 going as strong as ever. Who really wins the exclusives war ? Thats my point.

Lets see what will happen with Switch, im really curious myself. Also lets not pretend all Nintendo exclusives delivering. Arms was decent at best, Splatoon 2 was okish at best, Xeno 2 didnt meet the AAA expectations .. the only 2 AAA score games were BOTW/MARIO for 2017, that being said lets wait at see for 2018.,

I don't understand why people are being so dismissive of Switch and jumping on the notion that there were only two great games. I've seen it mentioned multiple times.

PS4 had an incredible year, no doubt. But to say the Switch did well because of two games is false. Also, you can't list games like For Honor and GT Sport, but ignore Golf Story, Xenoblade 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, ARMS, Pokken Tournament DX and Snipperclips.

For my money I'll say Switch because I bought more games that I enjoyed on my Switch than on my PS4. It also depends on what someone owns. I have an X, so I choose to purchase all of my multiplats from June on Xbox because they'll look better there.

So for me it was Switch > Xbox > PS4. That doesn't mean the PS4 had a bad year, it just means that given the systems I own I felt like the Switch was a better system for me.

If it wasnt for BOTW or/and Mario Switch what is left for Switch to brag about ? Splatoon 2 that made upset most Splatoon veterans ? Arms that wasnt as great as many beleived ? Xeno 2 that barely stand at AA score on metacritic with 83 ? That doesnt mean is bad but is not something you should mention next to Botw or Odyssey by any means.

How is possible also for you to put next to GT sport which is one of the best, if not the best of its genre, that of driving simulator next to golf story and Arms ? This isnt logical.

Its like taking one of the best, if not the best, 3D platformer Mario odyssey and put it next to a decent PS4 exclusive like lets say Infamous or something and try to compare those two like are titles with even standards and value

Man majority of the titles you just mentioned are just decent, nothing of botw or Mario caliber. Not even close.

Library of Switch is decent at best with few good games, very few, if you take out Botw and Mario. Thats a fact. And this kind of library cant even think to go close to PC or even PS4 without those 2 in there.

Xeno is a good console JRPG when GT sport is the best driving simulator for consoles. Similar to what Street Fighter 5 was. Lacked content and that backfired on score. Well deserved imo but that doesnt mean is bad by all means.

And you should learn some facts , go check the lists of 2017 for both PC and PS4, take out Botw/Mario from Switch list and try again to prove me wrong.
