@thehig1:

@thehig1:
I think thats still considered a grey area. If the software used has to bypass any security features on disc, that would make the software illegal, as well as doing such.
@thehig1:
With a legal device. Again, if there are security measures on disc and the software used to rip the software breaks that im pretty sure its illegal.
@thehig1:
If it is cracking security it is illegal. That was 20 years ago, a product like that would not be sold. Today. Laws on digital mediums have been floating in grey for a long time.
For example if i tried to sell a product that ripped ps4 games, bypass any security, and make them playable on xbox one x.....you think a product like that would fly?
@thehig1:
Im not about to read a sony or nintendo or microsoft TOS on their games.
Why doesnt Sony release a "Nintendo Player" for the ps4, which would allow game rips to be played on their console?
From Nintendos website:
"Are Game Copying Devices Illegal?
Yes. Game copiers enable users to illegally copy video game software onto floppy disks, writeable compact disks or the hard drive of a personal computer. They enable the user to make, play and distribute illegal copies of video game software which violates Nintendo's copyrights and trademarks. These devices also allow for the uploading and downloading of ROMs to and from the Internet. Based upon the functions of these devices, they are illegal."

Why would they ? and how it relevant, the law is the law and its currently not illegal to do what I've described several times, this is the case in the UK.
Below from Nintendos site
Can I Download a Nintendo ROM from the Internet if I Already Own the Authentic Game?
There is a good deal of misinformation on the Internet regarding the backup/archival copy exception. It is not a "second copy" rule and is often mistakenly cited for the proposition that if you have one lawful copy of a copyrighted work, you are entitled to have a second copy of the copyrighted work even if that second copy is an infringing copy. The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic. Therefore, whether you have an authentic game or not, or whether you have possession of a Nintendo ROM for a limited amount of time, i.e. 24 hours, it is illegal to download and play a Nintendo ROM from the Internet.
No mention of ripping your own game and playing it for personal use.
@thehig1:
Lol i actually dont know. Maybe it is legal, maybe it isnt. Can a consumer get in trouble for buying a device which rips the software? I dont think so, but i think rhe company which would offer that would be breaking *some* kind of ip/trademark/copyright law. I could be totally wrong, who knows.
If it were so black and white wed see emulators on sony and microsoft consoles.
Pfft! Please! The Wii U version 1.0 (AKA the Nintendo Switch) can't compete with the PC. Now it definitely might be able to with the Xbox one, (Non X edition), and the PS4 is highly arguable. Sure, the ps4 HAD a lot of exclusives, Senran kagura series, Sword art online series, Digimon series, Crash bandicoot insane trilogy, Spiderman, Killzone, God of War, Knack, ect... but how many of those series went on to be available on platforms other than the PS4 (And PS-vita)?
@ProtossRushX: So you are telling us that kids who wear skimpy clothing is one of the best exclusives? That game is shit, cringeworthy and would not recommend anyone playing it.
Pretty sure PC can emulate switch games, so there you go.
But is your Switch-playing PC portable? I got almost all my playing done while commuting or at work. These days, I'd rather watch a good movie or TV show when I get home. Or, for the last couple of months, read some graphic novels. The last games that really grabbed me and made me want to sit at my computer for hours were Resident Evil 2 and Sekiro.
Sure u can stream everything to any device you want even mobile.
