https://www.gamespot.com/articles/nintendo-switch-lite-announced-price-release-date-/1100-6468325/

Nintendo has announced a new version of the Switch. The Nintendo Switch Lite is a leaner version of the existing Switch model that sacrifices some features for a cheaper $200 price tag. It will be available starting September 20.

The Switch Lite features a 5.5-inch screen that displays at a resolution of 720p. This shrinks the screen down slightly from the original Switch's 6.2-inch size. Additionally, the Switch Lite will no longer be able to connect to TVs via USB-C and HDMI. This means that the Switch Lite is being positioned as a purely handheld platform, as opposed to a hybrid like the original.

I didn't like it, the OG Switch is perfectly fine for me.

They should also make another lite that is only the dock. I'm not interested in buying a switch, but if I was I would only care about having it to a screen since I don't care about the mobility aspect.

Could have called it the "Blade", positioned it as an extention of the Switch lol.

They are decent color options. I'm partialto the grey, and turquoise is nice, but something about the yellow really pops well. It reminds me a bit of the experimental game system with the crank that's coming out. And maybe Pikachu. Yellow may be the bold choice this time around.

Lolz so what’s the point? Why not just reduce the price of the $300 Switch by a little bit instead of spending resources to develop a product that does LESS than your current one?

It’s just trying to be a successor to the 3DS which is not needed right now with the Switch being so relevant still.

Stupid is as Nintendo does.

Removing the docking functionality is kind of a blow to people who only care about playing the traditional way.

Portability is cool for trips or taking a plane somewhere, not something I really want to do while relaxing at home with access to my nice 50' 4k TV.

If I didn't already have a launch-day Switch, I would definitely get the Pokémon themed one.

Have a feeling the $199 little brother Switch is going to be the hot item this holiday. Smart move by Nintendo.

This is just disappointing imo. For $100 you have no detachable controllers, no hd rumble, no docking, no connecting to tv, no ir camera, and a smaller screen. That's a lot of sacrifices. I'm sure it'll still be very successful though.

2019 is gonna be an easy win for Nintendo. I wouldn't be surprised if the Switch passes the Xbox One LTD sales this year... (which is a HUGE LOL at Lems)

I'll probably getting myself Pokemon Sword/Shield+original Switch model this November cause I'm not feeling this new design, it's 2DS all over again.

How does it not make sense? Why fragment the user-base? This means more $ for Nintendo and more convenience for consumers. It's a win-win for everyone involved...

Looks pretty nice if I do say so myself. Very good move Nintendo. Good to see it’s still compatible with joy cons too for the games that wouldn’t work otherwise.

To the people complaining, have you ever considered, that maybe, you’re not the target market Nintendo is after? Granted, wanna go cheap, buy this version but want the best Switch version, go buy the original model. Still love my original Switch model, no complaints.

@goldenelementxl: how is splitting up the sales of their system really helping...lol it’s no different than Xbox One, S and X or the PS4/PRO

What is it splitting? It's cheaper and more portable, which may be a selling point to those still on the fence. It's more durable which targets the younger audience. Your Pro/X comparison doesn't work here because the Switch Lite is cheaper than its predecessor, and only introduces minor confusion as far as controller functionality is concerned. No one needs to bother with what type of TV they have. The Switch Lite doesn't output to a TV. The Switch Lite broadens it's target audience while the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro targeted a niche group of consumers.

Did you honestly forgot about Pokemon Sword & Shield releasing this November? And like the loli said above, I'm sure most consumers who hasn't gotten a Switch yet will most likely buy Pokemon Sword & Shield Switch special edition model.

^__^ I think it looks exactly like what most people were guessing. Even the name. 33% discount means a lot to casual gamers. Pokemon fans especially may be interested in something like this, and the Pokemon LE Switch Lite looks pretty good.

For some families, buying 2 of these for the children may even beat buying 1 normal Switch at that price. For starters, they won't take up TV time/aesthetic.

So how will this function with Super Mario Odyssey? A game which forces you to use a joycon to grab a few of the stars.

Not just Super Mario Odyssey, also for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the motion control puzzle shrines do not work in handheld mode at all. You have to remove the joycons to finish those puzzles. Nintendo sure has alot of explaining to do.

?It's funny because

?It's probably true

I can totally see Nintendo doing that which is really sad. They'll make up any difference lost in not buying the original with an add on of equal price.

Now I need you to tell me the next winning lotto numbers.

No TV connectivity? No detachable controllers or anything thing? Welp, looks like I'm not getting the Lite version.

Seriously, how stupid can Nintendo be? If they wanted a cheaper Switch, the better option imo would've been to just lower the price of the regular switch rather than releasing one that barely does anything to original did.

Looks not bad. I have a launch Switch and this doesn’t really tempt me to get it to either replace what I currently have or to have a second Switch system. I’ll wait and see if they have a Switch Pro in the future. I think that this a pretty smart thing for Nintendo to do as I’m sure there will be plenty of people willing to pick up this cheaper Switch for a variety of reasons.

They kinda already been for a while. The ability to play on TV with Wii U and Switch was kinda just a bonus for those units with Nintendo IMO.

Nintendo: "Here's our band new hand held system...oh yeah, and you can play on TV too if you're into that."

The Switch was too big and uncomfortable to begin with, as a handheld, it sucked butt compared to the 3DS.

Lotto is bad karma.

I think when people buy the Switch they see the dock and somehow this equates to the Switch Lite being 100 dollars less.

Something i will say about Nintendos dock is at least it works 99.9% of the time. Ive had the rare occasion where the screen remains in 720p when docked. $100, though. But, how is that different from Apples hdmi out which is 50 dollars(and garbage btw-i own one). I use an amazon basic usbc to hdmi for the phone and its also lackluster.

@jcrame10: It's mainly Japan. Switch is selling much worse there than 3DS did. Also, it's the same strategy as 2DS, which clearly worked (and is thus not stupid).

Besides, they can't really risk cutting prices with Trump's tariffs looming.

@drummerdave9099: It's more about Nintendo's price gouging than anything else. The Switch as it is now should be $200 at this point.

Nintendo will use the lite model to keep the OG price high now.

@techhog89

Its more labelled as a new product: its anything you make of it. Thats the gimmick they sold it on, anyways, marketing wise.
