Poll SW - do you own a Switch? (91 votes)
Doesn't matter if it's your "primary" - I suspect it isn't, for most people. But a discussion with Bassman got me wondering: what % of SW users own a Switch or plan on getting one

Yes, I own a Switch since day one and so does my Daughter who likes Nintendo games. We both be satisfied with it but for me, I like taking the bus on my way to work so I can play it while riding and its by far the best innovating Nintendo has put out in a long time. I'm just glad innovation isn't dead in the gaming world.
PC+Nintendo Switch. (PS4 is just a bonus)
Yup since day 1.
The "on the go" aspect does nothing for me. If I'm on the go, I'm not gaming lol.
I like Nintendos games though and they usually make at least one of my favs each gen. Their consoles have always been a safe bet for me.
Of course it's not my primary machine, but if I could only pick one console to go alongside my PC, would be the Switch.
No.
Can't think of a single Switch game I absolutely, positively have to play. BoTW is the closest, but only because I remember enjoying Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask on a friend's N64 many years back. I could take it or leave it. Bunch of other games also look cool, but not enough for me to pony up $300 for.
Not worth spending so much money for just one game.
Oh yeah, should also mention I haven't used mine in forever. But that's just consoles in general. Might play a game or two a year on each one, if that.
Only maybe Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Bayonetta 2 look really interesting so far so nope. New IP's do not interest me (ARMS and Splatoon), and Mario Odyssey and BOTW look like low points in the series to me from what I have seen.
Yeah.
I'd like to get a second one so I can tinker with it. I eventually plan on taking my first one apart and seeing if I can make a 'console' Switch with a better cooling solution. Overclock the snot out of that little Tegra and see what kind of BotW performance I can get. Somebody's gotta do what Nintendon't. *shrug*
Ha, just read the convo that lead to this. Damn.
> "hardcore" gamers
> goes on to describe the most mainstream demographic and games.
I think hardcore as a descriptive term for gamers is pretty dumb. Though there is a core and casual audience like with most forms of entertainment.
Most people I know who are very much into this hobby aren't rigid with their system purchases. They like games. They purchase systems with the games they like. And if they've been into gaming long enough, they're likely not sleeping on Nintendo stuff.
I'd hate to think that the core audience for our hobby is guzzling down Doritos with Baja Blast while jerking off to every other AAA lowest common denominator game that comes down the pipe. If so, sign me up for the casual side plz.
I own an OG and a Lite. OGs hacked for singleplayer games so I can overclock for better resolution and performance in handheld mode, and the Lite is for Mario Kart Online
Nope. Landlord where I used to live had one and I was allowed to use it. I beat Super Mario Odyssey during my exam week. I bought Street Fighter 30th Anniversary and BOTW but never had time to try them. I just let them keep the games, put them to good use.

Whats wrong with doritos and baja blast thats liquid crack?

It was for the visual man!
If you put that shit in a blender and mainline it, I'm not judging, you do you.
@pyro1245: that would be sweet. Please blog it or something if you do and send me a link. I used to mod systems a bit - made a few LED backlit gamegears. Super fun to do
Oooo yeah. Replacing that mini florescent light can triple the battery life in the Game Gear. I had one when I was a kid with the giant battery pack. Played a lot of Sonic and Home Alone on it.
I've been looking for a used Switch lately. Something roughed up or with a cracked screen, but that still works. Trouble is, it needs to be the launch version so I can overclock it easily.
Yes. Currently only the Switch Lite, but may purchase another model in the future if there is an advanced version.
Until Bayo 3 comes out, no.
It really sucks that one of my favorite franchises is exclusive to a publisher I couldn't give two shits about.
Yep. I got it for the family and made an awesome clue hunt for the kids to follow all around town. Eventually, they found a 14" box made to look like a yellow Mario question mark item box with the system, 2 Pro controllers, a screen protector, a 200GB SD card, Zelda and Mario Kart in it. The system will eventually become old and boring over time... but the memory of getting it will remain epic.
Nope, I did own one at launch, but I rarely ever played it as others have mentioned as well. So, I sold it. Owning a Nintendo system and not playing it seems to be a common thing since the Wii. Nintendo is good at drawing you to their platform due to nostalgia/love for their franchises or some casual gimmick, but there isn't much that is worthwhile once you actually own the system. So, it just sits there collecting dust. Just think of all the casuals that bought a Wii for Wii Sports and then rarely bought other games or used the system. I know so many people like this.
I would love to see the engagement levels on the Switch vs. PC/PS4/X1.
Yes. I've barely used it since finishing Pokemon Shield. Paper Mario was a disappointment. Probably won't use it again until Pokemon Snap or that rumored 3D Mario collection release.
Of course, and it's great. I can play alone or with my entire family and it is EASILY my go to for the latter. Nintendo just doing Nintendo and killing it like they usually do. I think the big 3 are ALL sitting pretty heading into next gen and things could get exciting in a hurry.
No
1 - Not interested in Nintendo 1st party games, Nintendo 3rd Party offering is lacking as normal and even if it wasnt the games are not the same as PC/other consoles.
2 - Not interested in portability, when I'm on the go I dont game, gaming to me is not a quick pick up and play and kill a little bit of time. Its a few hours of no distractions and getting fully immersed into what ever I'm playing.
