Super Mario Galaxy vs Super Mario 3D World? (graphics)

Lol, you honestly think SMG looks better graphics wise?

SMG 1 and 2, from what I've played, vs what I've seen from SM3DW, looks more colorful and creative

3D World looks much more vibrant and detailed.

I'm… not really seeing much difference. Maybe it's the really small windows? I dunno.

3D world looks better...the galaxy art style is great but its not HD and it makes all the difference

Now if they were to make an HD version of galaxy that would look amazing (cough dolphin cough) Its tougher to tell from an online video but if you are looking at it on a TV in front of you 3D world looks a million times better. Trust me I have them both

SM3DW by miles. It looks better than any PS4/X1 game too.

In action, 3d world is much better in pure technical graphics. This video does a poor job showing it, but there is more clarity and detail in 3d world, and it's running at 720p compared to Galaxy running at 480p.

Only judging that video, SM3DW looks perhaps a little bit more detailed, but as someone who owns both Galaxy games and have seen 3D on a retailer demo, the diference in pure graphics, is huge.

Definitely Super Mario 3D World. Both are beautiful though.

3D World clearly looks better. For a 2007 Wii game however, SMG was a graphical stunner.

Yeah I also think 3D World looks better. For what SMG was though, no HD and all, it still looks great.

The Art Design in Galaxy, is superior. However, there's really no contest in terms of graphical quality. The lighting, texture work, draw distance, are all massively improved. Plus the resolution makes it night and day when playing on an hdtv.

the Super Mario Galaxy games looked great, but Mario 3D World is at a whole different level of beautiful IMHO

best next gen game, its the standard to beat now

What that comparison doesn't really show is how bad jaggies were for the Galaxy series.

Visually, I'm leaning a bit towards the art style of the Galaxy games. Overall though, 3D World is not only more visually smooth, but uses a ton of different effects.

In some ways 3D World is visually better than any console title last gen -- its minimalism means that everything that is rendered is smooth and with great texture. (While Uncharted 2 is more technically impressive and will turn more heads, the discerning eye can see tons of flaws.)

I shit you not, but resolution and detail aside, Galaxy looks much better. It's so much more vibrant and colorful and , 3D world looks soft, and the lighting while impressive is unnatural. The whole game is just... flashy. Nintendo's taking cue's from games on the Ps3 and 360 with these graphics.

If they make a traditional 3D game on Wii U, I hope they go the galaxy route and make it clean and vibrant, I can't imagine how good it'd look.

Don't get me wrong, 3D world still looks good, and at least it's different.

SMW3D the galaxy games were a jag fest if you played them on an HDTV.

I don't even agree that the art design is better in Galaxy. It's basically the same in both games, but 3D World is at a higher resolution with much better effects.

Except for the last part that's not even remotely true, they look totally different in favor of galaxy.

I mean they're both Mario so they're going to look similar, but the softness and lighting in 3D world make it look distinctive.

@93BlackHawk93: u cant even compare them 3d world is much better. if u have both games and play each and u will see. even tho mario galxy 2 is beautiful but it is not hd. 3d world is more colorful and much sharper. tho i prefer galaxy 2 as a game but still 3d world is outstanding and one of the best coop games out there in all systems.

The comparison is a little unfair.

SM3DW. No contest. The game has a whole lot more graphical details in comparison.

It does have some funny lighting in areas, but my god that art style is just great.

Uh obviously Super Mario 3D World. The artstyle in both games is great, 3d World has the benefit of better textures and resolution and stuff though.

In terms of graphics it's 3D World. You can tell for one example that the grass is better detailed then in Galaxy.

I'd agree with just about everyone that 3D World technically looks better, but Galaxy is more visually stimulating. It's actually a testament to how hard they pushed the Wii hardware with that game.

I like 3DW a bit better because it just looks so right to me. I can totally see where you are coming from though.

Well of course 3D World looks better it's on a HD system for goodness sakes but Super Mario Galaxy in every other area is a vastly superior game.

No I don't own a Wii U and I have no plans in getting one. In fact Super Mario Galaxy is one of my favourite games of all time I doubt 3D World would topple it.

Ever compared watching a Disney film on DVD to Blu-ray? Yeah, that's the difference in quality.

A tiny video in 720p isn't going to show off 3D world very well considering it's a 1080p game that runs at 60fps. And Mario has always had a clean visual look, the only way they can really add to the image is through really small details that you obviously won't see in such a small window.

You must be playing it on a SDTV or not using proper HD cables (component or HDMI). Shit's fucking gorgeous. SMG is fantastic for a Wii game, but it's not even in the same league technically.

Are you confusing graphics with overall innovation and design? I mean, if Galaxy were in HD at 60 fps then maybe yes, but I would say in terms of "graphics" that World wins.

SMG would look close enough in HD, so Nintendo we want SMG 1&2 HD collection

Super Mario World is far superior graphically galaxy looks good to but you can't truly compare them there a gen apart. And unless its side by side in real time not a compressed youtube video with a small section devoted to each you haven't truly compared them. Not to mention most people would only be able to play mario galaxy in SD on there HDTV further degrading the quality when you compared the two.

For the most part 3d world looks better. The water in 3d world blows galaxy's water away. Either way it will look better than those videos because 3d world is in hd while that youtube video is highly compressed. Galaxy is still a beautiful game though.

Nintendo will probably do HD Collections now to push the sales of the Wii U now.
