Subverse, a sex video game that was asking for £100,000 on Kickstarter, has made a rather whopping £1.5 million instead. I guess this should really be a surprise as disgusting hentai is actually very popular but under-served when it comes to mainstream gaming - with most sexual content.

The game will be released of the highly progressive Steam. And probably, actually will be better than Mass Effect. As all it needs is barely competent gameplay and sex scenes that aren't written by a basement dweller who imagines how humans interact.

Mass Effect-Inspired Porn Game Blows Up On Kickstarter

Subverse is a steamy new Mass Effect-inspired game that has already managed to become of the biggest video game projects ever on Kickstarter. Definitive proof, I think, that the internet consists of just two moods: angry and horny.

Developed by a relatively unknown studio called StudioFOW, Subverse has absolutely destroyed its £100,000 goal. At the time of writing, the game has just over £1.5m from around 51,000 backers. There’s 13 hours of funding left, but I think it’s safe to say mission accomplished at this point.

PC Gamerpoints out that of the 12,868 video game Kickstarters that have launched since 2012’s Double Fine Adventure, just 18 have been more successful than Subverse.

It’s also worth noting that these more successful projects tend to have some pretty big names behind them, whereas StudioFOW are apparently best known to people for their CG porn of video game characters.

I’ll say again; the internet is a thirsty place. In its own words, StudioFOW specialise in the “finest hentai.” As good a claim as any to hang your hat on, I guess.

Subverse is described by the developers as:

A tactical RPG/SHMUP hybrid that takes place in a fully explorable galaxy where you get to be the Captain of your very own ship which is crewed by the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.

While the game will apparently have some kind of story and the option to choose between grid-based or some admittedly pretty cool looking top down shoot ’em up style fights in space combat, the focus very much looks to be on having all of the sex with all of the aliens.

As StudioFOW ask on its Kickstarter; “Are we alone in this universe? What is out there? More importantly… can we bone it?” It looks like the answer to that question is “yes please.”

As if that wasn’t enough for you, the game’s female characters are being designed by “world-renowned art director and squidgirl-titty enthusiast Dzung Phung Dinh.” I’m sure you’ll also be thrilled to know that the studio is currently exploring options to get your in-game waifu pregnant.

According to the Kickstarter FAQ, all modules are currently playable in an alpha state, and the studio is doing its best to release the first chapter on Steam in “late Summer.” I guess you could say Subverse has made money hand over fist.

I’ll see myself out.

I was thinking about making a thread for this.

Their Kickstarter has been a major success, reaching over 1550% of their goal! They are currently about to place themselves as the 18th most successful video game Kickstarter ever, taking the spot from Divinity Orignal Sin 2! That is despite not being mentioned pretty much anywhere!

Interestingly, Kickstarter has not yet made this a
Interestingly, Kickstarter has not yet made this a "Project we love." Even though the other 29 projects in that top 30 did get some Kickstarter luv. Which makes their success all the more impressive.

Of course, 2 million USD is not exactly a AAA budget and you can score a copy for yourself with the £10 pledge... So I don't expect this game to be on a AAA or even AA level of quality. But this is the first time that we have actual proof that there is a market for sexy games on a higher budget. That's fascinating!

If you want to ride the FOW stallion to space, their Kickstarter runs out in about 8 hours!

Absolutely. When it comes to sexual content mainstream gaming is very regressive.

Bioware should be praised for pushing the envelope, unfortunately the content itself terrible meme quality.

With VR and graphics increasing, we will reach a point of porno holodecks.

Star Trek also correctly predicted that using peoples likeness in them without permission will be a crime. As Barkley (coping with social problems) does in "Hollow Pursuits" and Quark, using a likeness of Kira to turn her into a hentai slut in "Meridian"

The game had to dial itself back according a pc gamer article. Rape is a very controversial subject. It's common in the hentai genre as well as a very common fantasy (including woman btw) , but to speak it loudly basically means crucifixion.

It was actually really wise of them to go with a more comedic tone, very wise indeed, they will get a free pass. Given the recent outrage with Steams Rape-Day title, which is highly suspect. I think it was was a deliberate attempt to get Steam in trouble, hoping for the outcome it did.

There's probably going to be little outrage, as most of the users are resetera are hentai watching furry freaks with several of the moderators who worked on Neogaf, having been arrested and the owner former owner a surprise shower sex goblin.

No reason to believe Resetera, Polygon and all the other outrage merchants trying to shit out a narrative that suits them are also sick fuckos.

Of course this is complete speculation. But it's right. Probably.

Hey but what do i know? 20 people paid for the £750 package.

You know, as much as "porn games" are not really my thing, it'd be really awesome if this turned out to be *gasp* a legitimately good game. And I sincerely mean that; just looking at their Kickstarter page, it looks like they're going for a combination of Star Control, XCOM, and some other stuff, and that to me looks like a good combination of things.

It also looks like they're having fun with the concept, too, and not being all serious about it which is good.

There has always been a market for this kind of thing..... infact it could probably be a very big market. But alas America and UK dominate the gaming market so the still-clutching-to-life "Christian Values" along with the "consoles must appeal to kids as a priority" approach this market is... castrated basically.

Steam has made the first steps to a more open minded delivery of these products.

Meh that's like saying people who like tv shows or movies get virgin dwelling loser stereotype because porn exists.

or books when it comes to erotic books.

There is a sex thing for every medium.

Are they really aliens when they look almost exactly like humans but with some tiny changes?

That's pretty much every sci-fi show/movie in existence.

If someone's going to fap, I think they'd rather fap to a rainbow colored woman than a "The Thng". Of course furries and Rouge The Bat exist, so anything is possible.

Ikr? There's smut for literally every medium, but when it comes to vidya clowns begin with their "that's gross and everyone who enjoys it is disgusting" pearl-clutching.

All I am saying no one should be surprised or complain, when the stereotypes of gamers is maintained. :)

Eh? Not really sci-fi and thevast majority of characters in this are basically humanoid with makeup. Especially the female characters.

About the most alien non-extra is probably Proxima Midnight, who's face is somewhat CGI'd, but none the less very humanoid.

I don't have a problem with anyone willing to point out their own narrow-mindedness. But if it's going to be a 'cool' thing to hate on gamers, I will speak up about it. We don't have to let people insult us, walk over us, for having a wide range of interests.
