Dunno, but I don't care too much that the machine is big. It seems that big machines (PS3, Xbox) turn out to be quite reliable despite the fact that they're packed with heaps of stuff.

processors are small. I don't get why it needs to be bigger than most people's upper torsos.

I'm gonna take a guess and say because Sony wanted their console to be bigger than Microsoft's.

I think mainly it's because of the huge PSU required to power the Cell. Remember, the PS3 sucks the most power out of the socket more than the other consoles. gnutux
