Top Gear's greatest driving road in the world looks like it will be making an appearance in Gran Turismo 5.

So not only willTop Gear's test trackbe included in Polyphony Digital's eventual Gran Turismo 5 release, the show's greatest driving road in the world, the Stelvio Pass, may also be making an appearance.

Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond went on a search for their fantasy driving road at the beginning of the 10th series, arriving at the glorious Stelvio Pass.

This road, located in Italy, is the highest mountain pass in the Eastern Alps at almost 2800 meters.

So what makes us think that the Stelvio Pass will be featured as one of Gran Turismo 5's seventy tracks? In Polyphony Digital's latest promotional video for Toyota's FT-86 Concept, you should be able to spot the similarities between the real-life Stelvio Pass and what is shown in this GT5 video. For example, NeoGaf userSolidSnakexhas created the following image comparison:

Hit the jump for theToyota FT-86 concept trailer below, with an adjoining real-life drive through the Stelvio Pass (byMyWildBerries) for you to compare. Also enjoy the Gran Turismo 5 screenshot galleries below (click to enlarge).

Gran Turismo 5 is set for aMarch 2010 release in Japan, and will be coming to theUS and Europe a little later.

To put things in perspective, the Stelvio Pass is about 24.3km and the famousNordschleife is 22.810km (14.173mi).

I can't wait for this either. When I watched PBS when I was younger, that one dude that goes across Europe went through the Stelvio. I thought it was amazing, and since then, I've been wanting to see it for myself. This will help me get a little closer to that point.

Oh wow that course looks neat. 70 tracks...seems rather daunting to a casual fan of the series like me. So much content...

Well this is a bad comparison. Those are just plain old European road side walls in most hilly areas. It could be in France, Austria, hell it could eaven be here in Slovenia. But wasnt the FT86 concept video on a beach?

But the Top Gear test track i think was confirmed along time ago

There are only two things GT5 needs for me, more tracks and a customising section to make your own paint jobs, it'd be cool to have a really upgraded version of the car creater in need for speed carbon, i mean hugely updated. Well if this is the track then it fills my thirst for new tracks so it's only good news!

Very nice,

I'd probboly appreciate it more, but I'm unfamiliar with the pass, looks sick though.

I know i've said this before, but just watching the camera go over this pass when I was watching PBS... man my breathe was taken away for possibly the first time. I watched Rick Steve for years after that. I am really happy its in here though.

Wow, when I saw this thread I had absolutely no clue what the hell Stelvio Pass is, so I went on youtube and saw 7 minutes of that top gear episode.

Oh my god its so beautiful. I think this is one of the greatest things I have seen in my life. Definitely one of those places you HAVE to go to before you die.

Cant wait for GT5 to get released, luckily there are a couple of other games that will satisfy my racing needs in the coming months;)
