I'm sorry but can you be more pacific here. Are you saying that Steam has way more games then PS4? If so, this thread is a bust.

Actually, there's more to this then then Japanese having PC gaming. In Japan, the Internet Cafes over there are still way popular for this reasons but very few Japanese have PC, let alone high-ends for that matter.

@davillain-: I kinda wish we were like that. I would love for NX to have a Nintendo Cart that i can take into a store or cafe with high speed internet and download like 5-10 games too it. I think this could take the world by storm. I would just store all my Nintendo games in the Mushroom Kingdom and come as i please.

@davillain-: Nintendo did it in China with the IQue, it would be cool for them to advance that concept. It would end physical games kinda, but i think it will make Nintendo super strong with ability to give low prices, fast loading, reduce carbon footprint, etc. Will be cool to see what they do.

This would've been impressive if Steam's list didn't consist of games that have already released years ago.

It's nice that PC is getting more Japanese support but a lot of those are ports of older games

@lostrib:There is a lot more, but like I said, I left a lot out to try and make the comparison fair. And also, I actually missed a lot of games. Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight released March 4, 2016, MIND ZERO released March 8, 2016, Sunrider: Liberation Day released March 4, 2016, and Yohjo Simulator to list a few that I had in fact missed. Finding games on Steam for the purpose of "list wars" is actually hard just because the library is so huge and always, always growing at an enormous rate at any given time.

Yup, not to mention PC has never gotten the coveted 10/10 exclusive score from GS nor a recent GOTY in the last decade+ according to GS.

SONY wins again.

Skyrim is a PC game with bad console ports. The Witcher 3 is a PC game with average console ports.

PC also gets great Japanese-inspired games like Panzermadels: Tank Dating Simulator.

I just noticed a new War of the Human Tanks is coming out this year (Japanese indie game.) The last two were pretty good. Lots of tank-based waifus this year. This is good for me since I recently watched WWII in Color on Netflix. Regular porn just hasn't been doing it for me.

how is this relevant?

Even when a North American publisher promises to take on a game's financial burden, a publisher is afraid of losing face in the result of a failure or poor performance.

At this point, the obvious solution might be to localize RPGs and then bring them over to the U.S. on a digital platform like Steam or the PlayStation Network. Some Japanese developers, like Falcom, have dipped their toes in the water of digital distribution. But others aren't as interested.

"The reality of the market is that publishers are skeptical," Ireland said. So he wants to show them numbers—not just words.

Then you add in PC never getting a 10/10 exclusive as per GS, then you tie that it into the recent swing of JRPGS. I didn't score the games or bring games to either platform, I just observe and comment with facts and without bias.

So all we can hope is that Japanese publishers start looking at Kickstarter's success in the West and turning to people like Ireland to help bring their games to a new audience. I think there are many JRPG fans here in North America. Japan just has to find them.

Because you dont think they are relevant when clearly there are doesn't make them non relevant and that's GS's words not mine.

Most of those games are spread on PS4, PS3 and Vita. I don't really see the point of this.

@killered3: They aren't spread on the PS4. Most games are either not on PS4 or are old ports that have already been on steam for years. And at best, the PS4 has an exclusive game for two or three months before it goes to PC.

@iandizion713: What are you talking about? Japan has always loved PC gaming since the history of forever, but now those games reach a global audience thanks to the power of Steam. Even Clannad and Devil on a G-String have released on Steam along with well over a thousand other popular visual novels as well.

@shrek: Yeah, i know some love PC gaming, but its not very big over there. Maybe that is changing though, Steam is very dedicated to Japan, so its good to see them make some progress even if it may seem so small.

@shrek: The point being they are mostly old PS3, 4 and Vita games. PC is still very much secondary for AAA Japanese games.

@iandizion713: No it is the farthest thing from what you say. PC is huge in Japan. Every game store is 95% pc games. And any game not I stores is an online mmo exclusive to PC or an arcade kiosk.

@killered3: Did you mean PS4 is mostly old PS3, PC, and Vita game and that PS4 is still very much secondary for AAA Japanese games? The PS4 is very clearly lagging behind PC on all fronts as the list shows.

I find that very hard to believe.

@shrek: The PS4 is still young, younger than the PC so of course it's not going to have much right now but it will pretty soon. PC is still playing catch up to last gen and beyond as the list shows.

@killered3: It's already 2 and a half years in and 35 million consoles sold. The PS4 is not young. And don't you mean PS4 is playing catch up? Steam has far more modern titles on its platform than the PS4. The PS4 is literally nothing but PC ports.

@iandizion713: What are you talking about? Japan has always loved PC gaming since the history of forever, but now those games reach a global audience thanks to the power of Steam. Even Clannad and Devil on a G-String have released on Steam along with well over a thousand other popular visual novels as well.

Japan loved PC gaming back in the 8-bit and 16-bit days (when computers like the PC-98, MSX, X68000 and FM Towns were around), but ever since the 32-bit era, PC gaming has been very niche in Japan. The only kinds of PC games that got released in Japan for the last 20 years were usually just shmups, visual novels, doujin games, and Falcom games. But with the rise of Steam, that could change.
