What isn't coming to Steam these days? Some week ago god damned Sudeki arrived. So that's great, or something. In theory, ease of access for developers and publishers is a good thing, more creative people being able to make more games available. But that's never how that story ends is it? Just look at any open games market thus far. With the floodgates open, any ol turd will float by. There's nothing inherently wrong with bad games being allowed to exist, as long as it's easy to just slurge those the **** out of the way to get at the good ones. And that's the problem that needs to be surmounted. Valve's done some things, tagging, reviews, recommendations, but is it enough?

I think perhaps the most important step that needs to be taken is for Valve to start offering a proper returns policy. The idea of waiting and checking for user impressions is sound, but then if everyone does that, there's no users to give impressions. And with the Steam customer reviews becoming increasingly relied on as a seal of approval , people will try to abuse it. So if you end up paying for a broken piece of shit you ought to be able to get a refund. And not Steam wallet credit, a proper refund. That way people won't get punished for being willing to give games a chance. And hopefully it'll help give less known, unshitty games a better chance of establishing themselves rather than getting flushed away in a flood of refuse. Remember how Recettear did pretty well in 2010? Would it do as well today? Would critics be as willing to give it a look?

Seriously, if a store is taking a cut from selling baffling, pseudo-busted rubbish like Dark Shadows, or fundamentally broken garbage like Game Tycoon 1.5, it needs to take responsibility for it.

Another thing is the data that drives charts and featured slots. The stuff that's on the front page. Quality isn't part of it.

Where's
Where's "Highest Critic Rated", "Highest Consumer Rated" etc.?

Advertising space. Featured slots are worthless at best for consumers, actively harmful at worst.
Advertising space. Featured slots are worthless at best for consumers, actively harmful at worst.

Valve's smart people, hopefully they'll better help us spend our money wisely and rejoice at the amount of variety rather than solely lowering standards all around.

Steam is great to me. I don't buy shit games because I do my research before buying to prevent that from happening. I don't sit back and expect Steam to do my research for me and look outside Steam for more info on the game before I buy.

I cant speak to the amount of turds on steam..... or is it steam on turds...... anyway, I can, though, agree with the lack of returns. Its a digital problem.

Digital is the future, indeed. Who doesnt love the ease of use? Who doesnt love the ability to delete and redownload? But the lack of ownership, when compared to physical, is awful.

Oh jeez, this asinine argument again. If you don't think the games look good, don't buy them. Valve isn't a curator--it's not their responsibility to make sure only good games are sold on steam.

Your argument is nonsense.

Steam isnt DRM. Steam authentication is DRM. The vast majority of Steam games do not use Steam as a form of DRM, and only as a means of distribution.

You are perfectly fine having a physical disk or personal backup of most Steam titles.

Yes, a rental service where you have to keep paying or you lose all games is better than a service with insane deals that lets you keep all your games.

And paid online is better than free online

No steam is not s***t because of a few bad points. Everything has its goods and negatives. Think is if good thinks outweight bad thinks and in my opinion in case of steam yes there way more good thinks than bad thinks. That though doesnt mean Valve should stop trying fixing the bad thinks and return policy is one of those ( hell even origin for all the s***t is been taking has a rather good return policy ).

I think part of the appeal of Steam, at least to me, is that I know it won't be going anywhere too soon. It's safer to keep a library there and I like not to spread it over too many services.

I roundly agree though, that the software is absolute shit. It is slow and the interface is vastly outdated, they really need to start improving it. Also agree that early access needs to be toned down, quality control needs to be made a priority.

Other than you personally liking the games on PSN more than Steam, there is no way you can possibly bend facts to make your statement true. You can't get the amount of content, customer support, community, Steam Workshop, sale system that you find on Steam anywhere else. Also, you rent games on PSN+ really so please continue to pay 60 a year to Sony while I pay an average of 4 dollars a game on Steam.

I see you on every single thread plugging PSN+ like it remotely even touches steam. How desperate are you?

I'm curious as to why you think this. Along with why you always say piracy is killing PC gaming.

Firstly, statistically, PC gaming is growing right now and this is pretty much solely due to Steam. It allows consumer, creator interaction to be easy as hell and provides a kind of accessibility never before seen.

Also, piracy really isn't that big of a deal. Almost all Steam users you see have 50+ games in their library. In fact, console piracy is larger than PC piracy ( http://software.intel.com/en-us/blogs/2012/09/22/gaming-piracy-separating-fact-from-fiction ) and the used game market on console is a bigger threat to gaming than PC piracy. (http://torrentfreak.com/used-video-games-market-more-damaging-than-piracy-110518/)

By this shitty logic, Netflix is responsible for you watching Birdemic. The gas station is responsible for you buying a 50c hotdog. The bookstore is responsible for you reading Twilight. ITunes is responsible for you listening to Bieber.

Sorry, it's not the retailer's responsibility to police every single game that it releases. You as the consumer should be doing your own research or using basic common sense to avoid the bad products.

Agreed. I mean, you are on a computer connected to the internet if you're at Steam store. Why not do some research? I find it funny. Consumers want control of what they buy, no DRM, but want to be hand held about what they buy? Take some personal responsibility, TC.

Steam is a great platform for games, but it's also a major scam. They've created an environment that's so cost effective, people don't realize they're spending hundreds of dollars on games they're not playing and probably never will.

Sure is hard to pass up that newer game for 5$, isn't it? Try adding up the total amount of money you've spent on games you haven't touched. It tends to be shocking.

Steam is great but i agree there are too much garbage in there, too many early access rip offs, too many horrible games and lots of hipster crap that shouldn't even be classified as games.

The tagging system was a great idea but they ruined it by censoring it.What good is a tagging system if you cannot use any negative tags?

Before Steam I spent about eight hundred bucks a year on games. Now I spend about three, and my library is enormous. Sorry if that makes you sad.

Also: No one gets to QA my games but me thank you very much. I am an adult, and have the big person undies to prove it. If I want to buy Lego games I get to, and anyone who disagrees can kiss my wrinkly pink.
