Star Citizen's Squadron 42 beta delayed three months to Q3 2020

The Squadron 42 beta has been delayed by three months, Cloud Imperium Games has announced.

The beta for Star Citizen's story-based single-player campaign is now set for the third quarter of 2020 - so at some point during July, August or September next year. It had been due out during the second quarter of 2020.

This delay is down to "staggered development", a new way of making the controversial space project. It involves splitting up the various development teams between multiple delivery dates so they release larger features every couple of quarters instead of every quarter, but due to their staggered nature, there's still an update every quarter for players.

"You will of course notice that our target beta date for Squadron 42 has moved back by 12 weeks in today's roadmap update," CIG said in a blog post, "but this is a necessary step as a result of changing the overall development cadence, which we expect will create positive results in the overall delivery and experience of Squadron 42."

Star Citizen's development is well-documented. It's been in the works for nearly seven years and has raised an astonishing $233m from 2.3 million backers, but a release date remains nowhere in sight.

Squadron 42, which is set to star a number of big-name actors including Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman and Gillian Anderson, is pitched as the spiritual successor to developer Chris Roberts' much-loved Wing Commander series.

That’s right folks. Scam Citizen has been in Alpha for half a decade and based on history, this “BETA” will be further delayed. Probably until 2021.

Then the game will be in BETA for another 5 years and you hermits will keep on paying for something that may finally release by 2030.

But when that happens, you can sure bet they will add micro transactions with their current Mega transaction options they have now!

Then they will promise DLC that will take another 5 years!

This is the never ending money pit.

You realize Chris Roberts spends most of this money on useless crap like $20,000 Star Trek sliding doors, custom couches and $10,000 coffee machines for all his offices right?!

The game started development in 2011. Still no solid release date after nearly 8 years and quarter BILLION dollars in funding. The game currently has the budget of Sony's top 5 exclusives and yet no product. LOL

Don't worry he will have some more space ships to sell you.

There was a time when i was hype for this game but now i dont care because its never coming out.

Maybe delay the game till 2021 for a 10 years being an Alpha game. Sell and exclusive ship for 50k to the last morons that even care for this game.
