Aight... Your FPS rights are removed.

Stalker had glitchy gun play where hits would not connect and the guns felt like pee shooters also no matter what framerate you run the game at it still never felt smooth aslmost as if the animations of the game where running at 15FPS.

I love the franchise but it was a technical POS.

I really hope this turns out good, but didnt the team responsible for Shadow Of Chernobyl split up? Some went to work for 4A games, and others created Vostok Games, right. So who exactly is creating Stalker 2?

Someone who has no imagination to create a new IP so they want to capitalise on a existing fan base to guarantee some sales.

The chances that this becomes vapour ware or comes out a complete mess is pretty high.

Yeah, I've no idea where this "perfect gunplay" comes from. Love STALKER, but the gunplay was one of the weak points of the series. Being an FPS, that's not a good weak point to have.

All those technical issues aside, STALKER was still sweet. Without all the bugs, glitches and weaksauce weapons, it could've been something truly special.

Hope they make it better this time around.

Dont' get me wrong, STALKER is one of the better shooters from that era, but it lacked a bit of polish.

Hope they focus on gunplay a bit more while still nailing the great environment of the original. Maybe add in some more survival elements.

better at atmosphere, longevity, more variety, more skilledfull or tactical gameplay with inventory management. also STALKER gunplay is much better than HL2 gunplay.

it was buggy sure but there were mods and patch for that.

Probably in the minority here, but I much prefer the Deus Ex type design of the original where it's interconnected levels than "a big bowl" of COP.

They will probably be influenced by the likes of Ubisoft and yea, could very well suck.

Who knows.

exactly how i describe it. to borrow a ghost-ism it literally has some of the worst, most weediest shooting mechanics in any game ever. mercifully for it, it had other redeeming features. plus mods

This is pretty exciting, but I'm not going to get hyped over a single screenshot. Hopefully they don't turn it into a Metro wannabe with cutscenes, qte's, and escort missions every 5 minutes.

I agree. when it comes to Stalker I want that kind of mil-sim super realistic gunplay and weapon mechanics. though hopefully a less obtuse inventory and upgrade system than Tarkov

I personally wouldn't mind the inventory system and the crazy upgrade system of Tarkov, but i simply do not see any singleplayer games approaching tarkov in that department. The most important, as you've mentioned, is the sim-like gunplay. It suits STALKER to perfection. I'd like to see that in a Resident Evil as well, but know for a fact i will never get that.

Yeah I can't use that word loosely, the games have way too many problems... They were incredibly atmospheric but not close to be considered masterpieces.

I had a inventory mod in SOC from the moment one was available.

This mod looks good when it comes out.

Poor shooting? STALKER?? What?

Granted SoC was a technical mess upon release which took years for mods to come out and begin to rectify some of its shortcomings, but the foundation it introduced was incredibly strong. A full ballistics model.....distance, gravity, bullet drop calculated, etc. Now I'll grant the weapon "feel" left a bit to be desired on release, notably the pistols, but the effectiveness and unpredictability of the actual modeling was on point, refined further with mods to make it one of the most gratifying aspects of the game.

Taken as a whole, I've honestly never played a game with more satisfying gunplay than STALKER, combined with a remarkably competent NPC AI that made all engagements exhilirating and dynamic. When you begin procuring the upper echelon of weaponry and understanding their nuances, Wolfenstein and the like feels rudimentary and amateurish at best.

With that said, I have no hope for this sequel. The greatest things are often the product of a trainwreck of production (Star Wars IV being a prime example), a disaster in the making that just so happened to come together perfectly at the end. I don't think that's reproducable, it's a product of a Hail Mary. Fingers crossed, but I'm not holding my breath. STALKER 2 is probably going to be some cinematically focused, scripted shit like Metro, which would be exactly antithetical to what made the first so great. The fact that Metro went in that direction gives me serious doubts that the creators of STAKKER even understands what made it so incredible. If the game doesn't treat the player as completely irrelevant, I'm not interested.

I think they know what they're doing . My only worries are related to budget limitations. Hope to God they have enough manpower and resources to fully realize their vision.

Stalker is average, I mean you play scores as proof in the Doom Eternal thread, so I thought I would throw this at you.

STALKER 82/100 with 7 mixed reviews, and it didn't even get just one 10/10 score, and it got a 58/100 from one reviewer LOL.

I love when people who live by scores die by scores LMFAO.

LOL judging STALKER by scores. of course its not AAA mainstream game so reviewers dont rate it high. STALKER 2 wont get more than 8.

Quality wise its one of the best game ever.

8 is not average score neither 80 on meta. most of best games fall under this.

OMG OMG OMG they capture the atmosphere of original game based on this picture.

it will be game of century.

More news coming this year. my dream game.

Only a casual would get that excited over a screenshot.

you cant play STALKER. your mind will be blown.

It even made Doom and Half life feel like pale in comparision.

Damn dat...

I think they know what they're doing . My only worries are related to budget limitations. Hope to God they have enough manpower and resources to fully realize their vision.

Aside budget, I just hope that the developers at GSC grasp what made STALKER so great: it was a world that didn't give a single **** about the player. If they can retain that core of apathy and ambivalence and instead focus on implementing an evolved ballistics model, a reworked and improved A-Life system that does it own thing and has its own factions, animals and mutants with their own motivations and unique behaviors that affect the world when not even in the presence of the player, if they can craft an atmospheric, dynamic, interesting world, and finally, if they can give us a loose narrative to go to town in....they may come close. There's no other game I've ever played that's given me the impression so well that it wasn't designed with me in mind.

Do I have confidence this will happen again? Not at all. For one, the talent and vision that made the first is largely gone at GSC, and secondly, STALKER released during a time before linear, cinematically focused, scripted experiences that catered to the player arrived and grew into massive market appeal. I don't trust that the underlying design philosophy that STALKER stands upon will be honored, nor do I believe that it's really what most gamers desire nowadays. The best thing they can do is to make it a point to make the player 100% irrelevant, to NOT tailor anything to or around them aside what they decide through their own agency, and create an apathetic, nihilistic, dystopian (and most importantly unforgiving) nuclear fallout wasteland in which to do so.

I'll be very, VERY surprised if STALKER 2 turns out well, probably because the original is one of my favorite games of all time and I know it very likely won't be reproducible. Maybe modders can remedy that, but only if a solid foundation is present as the first has.

I have 100% faith on GSC game world. they will deliver now.

Metro has always been cinematic but still atmospheric. thats what Metro is distinguish from STALKER.

beside game is PC exclusive anyways. they havenot announced console versions yet.

I wouldn't get excited until it comes out and is proven to be actually good.

Otherwise you're just setting yourself up for a letdown.

Doom Eternal turn out to be masterpiece in the end. we also getting most ambitious game of all time that is Cyberpunk in few month.

This being not AAA game will definitely deliver.

Metro isn't even the same league as STALKER, never has been, solely due to the design philosophy that I noted. I suppose it is of some comfort that Grygorovych is still at the head of GSC, even if Shyshkovtsov and Maximchuk (those responsible for creating X-Ray) are now at 4A.

That they made Metro so cinematically driven goes to show that they don't have a clue, or a care, as to what made STALKER so great. My only hope is Grygorovych does, and has surrounded himself with just as much talent and passion as the first game had.

Both are different franchise and should be judge on different merits.

both are excellent series on thier own.

Played the original without mods and was a buggy mess... so no have zero faith in a sequel, regardless if mods made the original a great game..
