development of Stalker has always been longer. STALKER SOC was in development for like 7 years before released. STalker 2 was in development until GSC shut down and then came to life. it take time. dont rush it.

CDPR announced cyberpunk 5 years ago and still not a single trailer.

No point in me getting excited for a 3 year development of a game that is STALKER 2. When 2021 is here, then I'll be all hype up, but until then, I got more games to focus this year.

I heard STALKER was good, but I was put off by the shooting mechanics, visuals and glitches, if this one can pick up the slack of the first ones, I'll be more than happy to try it.

certainly an exciting announcement, but I'm going to keep my expectations low until we get some more solid info/gameplay footage

apparently I will get older, will get married and will have less time on gaming but still i wont left my Stalker.

I'm all in for STALKER 2 but 2021 is a long time, I'll just have to NOT think about STALKER 2 until then.

we will get masterpieces like Metro Exodus, Doom 2 and Rage 2 in between. so Stalker 2 takes time to deliver.

I hope the new game retains the inventory UI of Call of Pripyat. I prefer the better flexibility of the one in the Call of Chernobyl mod. But, the one in CoP will do fine.

Anyway why would they announce it now it seems too soon. At least wait until 2019 to announce it. I wonder if they will release any other games or expansions during this 3 year time span. I wonder if they're using a new version of the X-Ray engine or a third party like UE4. I wonder how much of the original dev team is working on it. I wonder if it will be at any PC Gaming E3 conferences, that would a huge bomb for E3 to have a STALKER 2 gameplay reveal.

Looks like PC gaming is getting some of its mojo back Looking Glass is back as Otherside Entertainment with Underworld Ascendant and System Shock 3, Valve is finally getting back into making games, MechWarrior is back, Age Of Empires is back, Star Citizen helped bring life back into the space sim genre, CRPGs have made a big come back, Witchfire is basically a spiritual successor to Painkiller, old school style shooters are making a comeback and Julian Gollop is back with a spiritual successor to X-COM that looks to be even better than the modern XCOM games. What more could we ask for? A No One Lives Forever sequel/spiritual successor? World Of Darkness revival? Command & Conquer revival?

Didn't STALKER SOC development take a long time because they were constantly scrapping game ideas and having to rebuild it.

Personally, I only liked Call of Pripyat and the Call of Chernobyl mod. I'll be happy if the game engine is much more stable, merely okay graphics, bigger maps, and more terrifying monsters.

The UI and inventory management system from Call of Pripyat should be transferred with only minor improvements. It occurred to me a big part of why I liked CoP was the UI and inventory management.

I'd like to be a bit more excited about this than I'm finding I am.

Not even considering the timeframe which puts this quite a ways out, I'm always reticent to get hyped for any successor to anything so well done. The original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was phenomenal, but only so because it had the perfect recipe of passionate developers and circumstances. Things have changed. Many of the original GSC developers have moved on, the landscape of gaming has altered as have tastes, and games produced now reflect that. Will this be heavily narrative focused, as many games today tend to be? If so, that will work antithetical to the strength of the original (its dynamic and emergent nature), a strength that has kept it alive to this day through a passionate modding community. The engine of the original was incredibly flexible and dynamic.

I'm not going to get excited. Usually things that are so great are only great because they're the perfect culmination of all the right circumstances at the right time. The original Star Wars is a prime example, and yet look at how bad the prequels/sequels have been in comparison. A new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. might fall into the same trap. We'll see, but I'm reserving my hype for now.

@jun_aka_pekto: Yeah you made it pretty clear that the inventory UI was one of the main things you liked about STALKER and disliked about the Metro games. I did suggest to you Escape From Tarkov but you don't like multiplayer games much these days. If STALKER 2 can give everything STALKER is best at but with better graphics, more polish and some new features that is more than enough to satisfy most STALKER fans.

Well on the other hand a mostly new dev team could mean some good things for STALKER 2. The STALKER games were great but lets not forget how badly broken they were, the flaws were only over looked because the games were just that good. It also depends on which people from the STALKER team left GSC. If its mostly low level developers I wouldn't worry too much since lead designers and directors are the ones with the most influence and vision and can guide new programmers and designers into imitating their previous games styles. There are also hints that STALKER 2 may be running on Unreal Engine 4 so if it is running on that engine the modding capabilities should be intact. If STALKER manages to recapture most of the original games style while being modernized I wouldn't have much of a problem with it.

Meanwhile lets get hyped for games that were announced several years ago and/or have little to no gameplay shown! (Final Fantasy 15, Final Fantasy 7 remake, The Last Guardian, Death Stranding, Crackdown 3 and Cyberpunk 2077)
