Poll Sp it's right next to the new gen. Who won in HD console sales? (32 votes)

Xbox 360 outsold PS3 for 1st place among HD consoles (Please provide reiable proof in thread 38%
Ps3 outsold 360 for HD consoles (Please provide reliable proof in thread.) 63%

Now, it's still debated, but there have been a few switches and cheating going on on both sides, but mostly on the side of the console with a 3 on it and a P. But there are many unreliable and reliable outlets saying one beat one, and one beat the other.

So what's the deal? Xbox 360 outsold PS3? We need accurate PS3 sales, we need Accurate 360 sales, going by the last results, the 360 would be in the lead, but that depends on what magic you used in that PS2 and PS3 sheet in the breakdown of which from there it's all imaginary numbers.

Outside of System Wars is where no one cares; forums like this are the only places where anyone gives a damn.

Weren't there quite a few articles starting PS3 outsold 360 like a year ago?

Not that it matters. 360 did a great job gaining market share and its obviously a close race between the two systems.

I don't know I heard PS3 passed 360.

I could believe that since most people I talk to nowadays have PS3's

If you want to compare sales to wonder who "won" the war, then you should at least wait until they're discontinued.

Also, why does this concern you? Is it supposed to indicate how many players have played the system? What about systems with RROD? A lot of users bought a new console, so there are a lot of duplicate users, and thus the sales don't represent how many unique people played. Also, what about consoles shared between families? These are simple examples, and there are many more that could be applied to both Sony and Microsoft.

Finally, if it is about how much profit they made, then it should be about exactly this - profit. This will need to account for how much their system sold + manufacturing price. If you really wanted to be accurate, then you'd need to take into account how much they spent internally.

My point, looking at the final number "sales", is hardly representative of whatever you're concerned about, especially since the numbers between Sony and Microsoft are so close.

Its not big difference, but PS3 already outsold the 360 in terms of hardware

In terms of software, 360 are a lot more than PS3

Only lemmings can't accept this fact

the difference is to small for anyone to claim "ownage," Actually claiming "ownage" for console sales is stupid and only something done on the internet. In real life people don't care because it's not their money.

Nobody can provide definitive proof because Sony started combining PS3 sales with PS2 sales in their reports to make their sales numbers appear higher than they actually are. Any article you find that says that PS3 has passed up Xbox 360 in sales is using sales numbers of PS3 sales combined with PS2 sales because that is the only thing that Sony reports.

To me, the fact that Sony had to do that is proof enough that they are still in last place because if they actually were winning, they would not have to hide their actual sales numbers. Microsoft is completely open about their sales numbers.

Microsoft recently announced that they have sold 80 million Xbox 360 consoles, while Sony has not announced anything about how many PS3 consoles have been sold. Now, think about that for a second, this is Sony we are talking about. Sony has never been a modest company. Remember how much they used to brag about how PS2 was outselling the competition every chance they got? Why aren't they bragging anymore? Why aren't they even announcing their sales numbers anymore?

If PS3 ever does eventually pass up Xbox 360 in sales, I guarantee that Sony will make an announcement to brag about it, but they haven't done that yet because they are still embarrassed that they are in last place, so they continue to hide their actual PS3 sales numbers and hope that their cheap trick of combing PS3 sales with PS2 sales will fool people into thinking that PS3 has outsold Xbox 360. The sad thing is that their cheap trick appears to have worked on some people.

PS3 in sales, but Xbox 360 seized a sizable chunk of the market, which in the previous gen Sony dominated. And to achieve superior sales Sony had to lose a lot of money, a lot more than MS did. It was a console arms race. MS is still in good shape but Sony is nearing insolvency.

Basically MS lost $3 billion since the launch of the Xbox 360, Sony lost $5 billion on the PS3.

I'd call that an arms race, I think the focus isn't to have a highly profitable business in the immediate but to dominate and shape the market for total control for years, something that can be much more profitable down the road by controller the hub of home entertainment. I figure that's why they're willing to lose money.

Despite Sony willing to release concrete info it's kind of accepted the sold "more" without a doubt. However, they lost a large chunk of market.

I don't have any sources but If you think about it, it shouldn't be hard to see why the ps3 won. The Xbox brand is strongest only in the USA but everywhere else Sony products are more popular. Then again the USA is the largest market for video games...

Whether I'm right or not, based on that I think Sony won. And then there is that whole shipped vs sold debate which further complicates things.

i'd say Sony won but they lost a lot of marketshare. Not a problem though because it looks like they are gonna gain it all back now with MS screw ups and WiiU being a flop.
