@misterpmedia: I hope you dont think I was applauding MSoft in any way. This is another gimmick like in home 3d was. It is hokey and lame and anyone who buys into this will regret it after about an hour with these things.

It will likely cost an arm and a leg. I'd like to test it out though
We'll see how many gamers suddenly dont' care about wearing big goofy goggles on their heads like they claimed with the Rift
I for one was always excited for the rift, however I know you have a rift and you probably payed what around $300 USD for SDK kit?
I can't see sony going as high as that at least.
It shouldn't surpass that price point. Neither should the final OR. If they want these things to succeed then they will need to price it aggressively. Anything above $300 is a bit much
Lulz, so Sony is again copying someone else's success with their own shitty knockoff version? No thanks.
Yet I bet you use Kinect. lol.
Nope, never owned one, don't want one. Try again.
+1 on my respect metre. No further questions.
What exactly are you proving with this post? That PS4 owners have no games worth wild to play recently, so they are resorting to buy an afterthought, inferior to Kinect, camera?? What's even more hilarious is how these sites are eating this opportunity up and price gouging the F outta people. Wow!
@blackace: Dude, are you ever positive about anything involving Sony? This could be the next step forward if it's successful and you want to shit on it just because it has a Sony nametag on it. You'd be praising this if it was MS doing it. So much for being a "manticore".
@StormyJoe: Um what is Xbox One doing that 360 didn't do besides TV pass through. You realize that has nothing to do with games right?
Sony never learns anything. They keep delivering failures after failures. What makes anyone think this new gimmick will be any different.
Failures: PS Move, PS Vita, PSP GO, PS Vita TV, PS 3D, Wonderbook, Six Axis, and so on.
Faceplam. Instead of making exclusives, they make this? Virtual boy 2.0? I hope Santa Monica's project didn't get canceled so they can make some bullshit Gow demo for this garbage. Plus you need to buy the garbage ps eye too!
Let's hope they don't end up focusing on it too much and kill the exclusives like the Xbox did with the kinect on 360.
Honestly, given their history, I'm not expecting this to be a huge success. However, even as an exclusive PC gamer, I'd be glad if this ended up being good. Would only push Oculus to work harder.
This... could be a monumental disaster, but it is all in how Sony handles it.
Right now, VR faces much of the same problems 4k TVs do; lack in content. In VR's case its even worse because we can't even assume or suppose there is a built an audience for it. If Sony wants to pursue it, great, but they need to face the fact that this needs to have content creators jumping on board, and now. Mind you, not just gaming content. If VR is to take off, it needs non-gaming experiences as well.
At the event today, they did bring up NASA creating things for it already, but it is going to need a steady stream of content creators. Heck, a VR industry needs to rise up. Interesting choice, glad they are taking about this as a project instead of a full product already, because it has many hurdles to climb before I would say it has a content environment that can support it as a consumer product. Having said all that, I am all for people taking steps forward and exploring new technologies for this industry of ours.
I am a little worried for the future of VR when idiots like Eidos Montreal think it's acceptable to create a VR version of their game for a system that can't even play said game at a stable 30fps. I hope such idiocy doesn't fortell the future of AAA VR development, where no emphasis is placed on framerates, and from what I've heard of people who've tried the Rift, framerate is crucial.
Though I am very skeptical I think Sony can pull this off, depening on how it is implemented and used, it still doesn't have a final build or anything, but it could be interesting, mind you it;d have to have the software to back it up and some games as well that really feel immersive none of that move/kinect crap, but colour me intrigued but skeptical, After reading the what Sony announced it seems they're taking a slow approach which is good, and not rushing it out, this could either make or break them. Guess we'll see.
'Oculus Rift-beating'
Yeah right,lol
yeah I know its insanity to assume that sony's vr will match oculus,
oculus has john carmack, he aint to be fucked with.
sonys headset will probably only support 720p/ but that doesn't mean it wont be terrible,
just like their 3d tv, bought the playstation 3d tv on clearance,
I rock that with my pc,
hopefully sonys vr will offer that "slight" flexibility.
I don't think VR will ever be popular until it's affordable for the masses. And Project Morpheus won't be affordable for the masses.I hope sony has planned out a way to make money from this or else this will probably worse sony's current financial position.

hahahaha......I have call him out like 100 times,he claim to be a manticore but all he does is cry like a baby in sales threads and graphics threads, and kiss MS all day...hahaha He is such a die hard lemming is not even funny..hahaha
@tormentos: He's horrible at masking it too. If he says anything remotely pro Sony he has to have a negative thrown in. MS gets comments that are 100 percent positive. He's a joke lol.
I loled with the thought of a Sony fan wearing that huge Sony headset, this thing and dangling a Move controller around lol. And the same fans think the Kinect was silly lol. Sony putting their gaming budget on another fad thinking it will be better because they're Sony.
If it's anything over $150 it's DOA.
I thought people were reaching with under $200. $150 seems really damn low.
@seanmcloughlin: What PS4 owner is going to buy an accessory that's got only a few games (guarentee it won't have much support) and costs half as much as the console does?
VR is great, but it's appeal is limited. The amount of genres it's going to work really well with, especially at first, is going to be limited. Furthemore the PS4 is not a powerhouse. It can barely do 1080p @ 30 FPS for most games. Your whole world at 30fps is going to feel choppy and unresponsive. Even the guys at Oculus are thinking 60 fps isn't enough and are looking into 90fps or higher for the best experience.
VR is a new way to play games but it's got to be damn near flawless or it's just another gimmick. On the PS4 it's going to have too little support, too many technical limitations, and going to be too pricey to make any real difference.

I get what ya mean but Sony are still a business and need to turn a profit. It will go one of many different ways, either the product is really good and high tech to compete with OR and possible future VR devices and Sony will need to sell it high to cover costs. Or it's a piece of crap designed to fill a hole in their portfolio of gadgets just for the sake of competing and delivering a cheap thrill and they can sell it low which in the end then will go nowhere
Sony has one thing on their side though I guess and that's the fact that they already make their own screens for different devices, cutting the need to outsource like OR are doing (and running out of parts too at that).
I guess I should wait and see but all I know is more competition in the VR scene is good, I don't want OR to dominate the market and slack off and charge what they want. It's a shame Valves solution isn't a cost effective one, some of the stuff I read about theirs is insane
Lemmings are scured.
Don't worry guys, MS' finest engineers are prepping Fortaleza! Xbox Won!!!!!
Why would lemmings be scared of a gimmick thats probably doomed to failure.
Remember , according to you cows MS biggest mistake was too much Focus on kinect yet here you are hyping something that is just as much of a gimmick and will shift SONY's focus away from 'core games' in the same way that kinect did.
Very few people will buy this because of the 2-300 price point, people that do have the money to drop on this would probably have a gaming rig not a console ,lol.
The vast majority of console owners own them because they cannot afford gaming PC's,99% of Ps4 owners would not have the extra cash to buy into SONY's VR dream.
Kinect is a gimmick, this is a gimmick, you can't have it both ways (although i know you will try your damn best to)
Eh, it looks promising, sure. I think the Rift looks great too. Neither is very close, and neither will be very cheap, so I'm not losing sleep over the whole thing just yet. Once the hardware is out I'm definitely going to give it a try, but hype alone isn't gonna sell either one to me. And IF I do buy it'd be tough to see me going for Sony's set without support for the PC built in, assuming they both performed similarly.
All in all it's nice to see it announced, but it's far from a big deal yet. You know, not like dat DX12...
Very skeptical about VR in general to be honest, the best way is hack into your brain directly and translate your thoughts into action, that would be amazing :D .
I don't think the PS4 can handle it, yet their confidence and how early they announced it for the PS4 give me some hope.
