Sony has announced they will shut down the online capabilities of PS4 exclusive Gravity Rush 2. This will lock out certain aspects of the game. Gravity rush 2 came out Jan 2017

Fans will be locked out of most of the online features come 18th January 2018, it was announced in a blog post on Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia's website.

Features also set to be dropped are:

  • Sending and receiving challenges
  • Ranked Leaderboards
  • Sending and receiving Treasure Hints
  • Sending, receiving and reviewing Photo Ghosts
  • Acquiring Dusty Tokens and their rewards.

In the meantime, Sony is increasing the drop rate of Dusty Tokens - an in-game currency received for sharing photos and completing challenges - as a consolation for players and their continued support of the game. Dusty Tokens are the only means by which players can unlock special costumes and talismans within Gravity Rush 2, which won't be available once the online functionality is shut down.

Never released it had any online components, doesn't seem like they'll actually effect the game though.

Shame, because I loved the treasure hunts. I might go back and collect the dusty tokens to get the remaining unlocks after I finish up Yakuza Kiwami.

@drlostrib:

You can literally play the entire game while ignoring online. If you can even call it that. Its not like Halo or COD mp.

Welcome to the "online only" future

I know this game isnt online only just pointing out every online only game will receive the same treatment sooner or later whenever their publishers decide on it

Can't wait to see the excuses from the usual suspects of the bovine variety...

But anyway, sad for those that enjoyed the game.

To be fair they released the 2nd gravity rush on PS4 to expand the audience in to double figures.

Doing or did same for The Tomorrow Children. Shame. Maybe Sony should invest in more cloud power, for something besides streaming games.

And another one bites the dust. Why did they even increased the PS+ price at certain regions anyway.

What a terrible example ... This effects physical copies exactly the same, but I suppose in this day any age any example will do to prove your point no matter how daft/wrong it is. But if you need to derp you might as well herp while you're at it!

I didn't realize this had online capabilities, but that's unfortunate. I still have to play the first one Remastered. Assuming I like it (looks fun), I had assumed I would go on to play GR2 at some point. I don't pay for PS+, though, and it doesn't look like the SP game is gimped in any way

More resources to put towards the industry leading, generation defining, bona fide classic exclusives coming our way. Only on PS4.

This is what sets Sony apart from Microsoft, Microsoft don't know when a horse is dead (Halo, Forza, Gears) so they continue putting out sub par experiences, Sony deliver and then move on.

Maybe a new one is coming out. I mean the excuse before was they shut down MLB The Show servers once a new one comes out not even a year in. It's disgusting Sony continues this un-consumer friendly practice. Mean while Xbox adds more to the free BC list and these last gen games with online will still work.

Gravity Daze (Rush) 2 has an online mode? WTF! I didn't know that. I haven't even finished Gravity Daze 2 for that matter. Too bad but at least we got Gravity Daze 2 into PS4 at the very least and not needing to play it on LOLVita or even buy the damn thing for that matter.

Yeah, that's why I try to make sure I get a hell of a lot of play time for the online components of my games. I'm making sure I play the hell outta the community levels in LittleBigPlanet 3, get enough time online from Killing Floor 2, get enough time out of Rocket League's online, make sure I finish all of the snapmaps I wanted to get done from DOOM, and get a little more time from Overwatch and Diablo 3.

Sure, those games' online could go on for a long time, but hearing about the closing down of all LBP servers for Japan 2 years ago gets me all paranoid. Makes me feel that sometimes, in the case of online-only games, we are really just paying for a long rental.
