Sony set to buy Crunchyroll for $1 billion

Not that I use the service, but a move like this should be to take over publishing not make it exclusive to PlayStation. That would be there decision, but if that's what they want to do it would just seem unnecessary. They probably got the Japanophile demographic on lockdown without this acquisition, they could have just bought more studios if they want to give PS5 an edge.

It does say they already own Funimation, so if they want to make a strong anime streaming service that could be good. I thought about subscribing to one of these a while ago but didn't on account users complained the apps have reliability issues so I didn't bother.

I once thought Crunchyroll was a hentei porn site. Good on Sony for this monumental acquisition.

This is a good purchase by Sony.

Decent purchase. CR is pretty good for streaming service, and the quality is solid. Haven't used it in a couple years, mind you.

Sony makes more than Playstations, folks. In fact I believe the head of Sony even said that video games are a small % of their total profit.

It's sushi that they sprinkle little tempura bits or fried onion strings on top of. I think it's like a California roll just with crunchy bits.

Oh boy... no one wants new studios or an unannounced game or two... no no.. let's get this trash. I thought I remembered that SONY already owned crunchyroll.

Look I'm a SONY fan just like Xbox and Nintendo and I know they aren't just a game company but no one I know gives a shit about this. I know there are a lot of anime fans for some reason, but what in the hell.. is this like a Netflix service for anime or something?

Perhaps if this helps them make new game IP's and gives them easier access to development it makes sense, but something tells me this is completely unrelated from gaming outside of having the app available on the PlayStation eco system.

MS acquires Zenimax and SONY goes out and purchases sushi. (yes I realize this isn't exactly for the gaming side of things, but the point stands)

On an unrelated note.. my wife and I ate a crunchyroll tonight and it wasn't half bad... probably a lot better than the one SONY bought.
