Sony needs a Phill Spencer.

Say what you want about Phill but he really turned the Xbox around from the shitshow it was in 2013. Sony on the other hand seems oblivious. They have had many high profile exits over the years and it looks like it's taking its toll. They proved how utterly clueless they are now.

Their PS5 reveal was a boring conference meant for developers which should have been kept behind closed doors. The only thing we needed were the specs as the average idiot isn't going to understand any of that. They needed a show dedicated to the consumer and that's not what we got.

Backwards compatibility? Oh don't worry you get the 100 most popular games based off playtime. So enjoy 5 fifas, 4 madden's and all the Cod's. Let's ignore the fact the system runs on X86 and every PC and MS have figured this issue out with BC for years now.

What about crossgen am I going to have to rebuy games like Cyberpunk to get PS5 features? Who cares let's just talk about the SSD for 30 minutes.

Some may see this as a surprise, but no Sony needs someone else as Phil has some serious issues, and he's not as much of a gamer you think he is.

Sony is fine. Sure the console is inferior to the Xbox Series X. But we already knew this. PS5 is still a good product. Sony just really dropped the ball on backwards compatibility. No guarantee that it even works and only backwards compatibility with PS4 titles. Really stupid.

The power difference is a huge hit to Sony. But again, it’s still a worth while machine.

The issue is they blabber about legacy and can barely get PS4 games to run on the PS5? And if you have to rebuy modern games that is a nail in the coffin. Not showing the console, not showing any tech demos... they are oblivious.

Phil isn't great, though. Wearing gamer t-shirts doesn't make you relatable. I don't dislike the man, but he'll always have that used car salesman vibe. He'll bullshit as much as the next spokesperson.

The presentation wasn't meant to be a reveal. It was intended for developers but they tried to make it into a media event. Was a bad marketing idea. Sony did ok. They just need to focus on games and price. Average gamer not going to care about 10.2 teraflops.

No, he actually visits a ton of studios and checks what they are working on. He is a genuine gamer and actually cares about what his studios produce.

Don Mattrick only wanted Halo/Forza/Gears on Xbox consoles. Closed down a bunch of good studios. Phil bought a ton of studios to diversify that catalogue.

He is a salesman too, but not in the first place.

He's done a herculean job of not only raising the Titanic from the deep depths but turning it around as well. Nice job by, Phil and his team. :D

Plenty of studio heads do this. Phil's the one that has to tweet about it every time. Microsoft's first party is still mediocre and they still have a habit of pushing out unpolished games. He got rid off kinect/always online, which is what any healthy person would've done and gave us half-assed backwards compatibility. Not to mention we haven't seen these new studios in action.

For those who says Phil Spencer hasn't done a good job with Xbox One brand, I'll say this. I'm not a Phil fan, but I can acknowledge he's done a good job with the brand. Not super fantastic but a great job so far. Phil does what he could to turn the ship around and looking at him now, he's done a hell of a job then any car salesman I seen so far. Bringing Xbox One games to PC was the first step in the right direction, Xbox Play Anywhere, and Gamepass were the best things Phil has done and most importantly, releasing a much better upgrade console aka Xbox One X. Saying Phil hasn't done worth a damn need to rethink their statement.

Does Sony need a Man (or Woman) like Phil? I think Sony needs a new team of salesman. But so far, Sony does get by on it's own. I miss people like Kevin Butler, he was a good car salesman entertainment that supprted both PS3 & PS Vita. Moving into next-gen PS5, Sony Entertainment of America should look into a younger enthusiast spokesperson but nothing like Phil. And I don't think Sony fans will be happy if they find a person like Phil, the first thing that person is going to do is, bring all PS4/5 excusives to PC. I doubt Sony fans don't want to see that lol.

Sony lost that edge, that fire, that fight they used to have. Cerny is fine for what he does, but they need some new names and new faces to spark that fire again. It's so crazy to me how a company can be so hot one gen, and completely blow it the next.

As far as Xbox goes, Phil is great in front of the mic and a good voice to appease the gamer audience. They might want some more people over him, looking at the books and asking, "how does this make us more money and grow the Xbox brand?" Because lately, Phil has been acting like that friend you're starting to worry about because he's giving away all his shit and acting a little reckless.

I don't think Sony have done much wrong to be honest the reveal obviously could have been better but you know or at the very least expect sony to come with games on the ps5. The pricing will be very important if they can get it to undercut the X series they will start the gen in a strong position. I felt the specs were impressive and to think what naughty dog could do with that is what makes me excited about the future.

Agreed. Both Nintendo and Microsoft has had spokespersons who seem relatable to everyday people, while Sony's pr has been sweaty suits who tell us to get another job to buy their stuff.

Strongly disagree. If backwards compatibility was an issue, it would've hurt the ps4 sales. But this gen went by perfectly. As much as pc gamers might care about specs, we mostly just want to see what launch titles the next gen will have. The best titles will also show off the consoles performance too.

I'm not a fan of Sony's backwards compatibilty, either. Microsoft clearly wins this, but tallest midge and all.

MS have definitely leant from mistakes made this generation they seem to have direction of where they want the xbox platform to go.

Phil's definitely gone a great job with Xbox.

But, tbh, some of the criticism against Sony can be completely unwarranted.

Ex. Why don't you go ask CDP if you'll have to rebuy Cyberpunk on PS5? It's the publishers decision at the end of the day so unless Microsoft is perhaps bank rolling it, there's no reason beyond the publisher's decision that should require you to rebuy a game on one platform vs another. They could literally just provide people with a free patch or, another full download.

Everybody knows Phil inherited this mess from Don Mattrick and actually turned the brand around. The Xbox brand is taken far more seriously after he took over. He also comes off as a pretty reasonable guy and has always shitted on the fanboyism of the industry.

The Xbox brand does not have as many good exclusives as Sony has but it's pretty clear they have been trying to make it up to their customers since the Xbox One's disastrous launch.

Time to give it up man. They closed the studio. With that said, Warhawk was awesome.
