And that is why I'm parting ways with Sony after this gen. I've had and enjoyed every PlayStation console up to this point, and have hundreds of PlayStation games.

It's sad as all hell seeing a company that produces entertainment get involved in these moment in time politics. There's no doubt that this error in judgement will affect the quality of their work in the generations ahead. There will come a time when a lot of people will look back on these times and realize how idiotic it all was.

I dont understand how having female characters in swimsuits is worse than all the realistic looking gore in mortal kombat, why is one censored but not the other

Great job again liberals. Not only are you shutting down various Pride events, you’re also ruining your own entertainment providers - who are on your side even. Yet you ignore a certain religion that is against almost everything you stand for (psst, it’s not Christianity).

Liberalism is imploding.

I don't know, has there been a legal crackdown on games? I can imagine there's stockholder pressure to grow their already enormous market share and Sony's interested in maintaining the broadest appeal possible, but I don't know that they can blame social movements for changing laws on showing bare bottoms in their games or whatever.

@NoodleFighter: pretty dire stuff. I say Cyberpunk won't be censored. Why? Cause look at the outcry Dmc5 had over a nothing which was fixed. And this is just Sony trying to solve problems before they happen. I just found out that Sony was sued over gta, a 3rd party game promoting violence. And every place takes stuff differently. Resident evil 2 is gore censored in Japan. The guy with the notepad isn't in half and the licker torn face isn't torn. Why isn't Japan crying over that?

That's a huge problem because what gets defined as a problem? Developers have stated that Sony have no exact guidelines to follow and can decide on a whim how your game gets censored. The problem in what Sony is doing is that they're doing a one size fits all for something that may not be a problem for other countries or any at all. Even if your game is only being made for your own country you still have to censor it solely because Sony wants to cover their asses from the cries of the outrage mob from other countries that may stumble upon this game. Games for a long time have been censored in certain ways in specific countries but no one really cared as it only applied to those countries and not all versions of the game plus if you lived in one of those countries that had it censored you could still buy a foreign version to get past the censorship. But now Sony takes away that option by painting the censorship with a global brush.

You point out how Sony got sued over GTA, there is likely a fair chance that the next GTA game will bring out another outrage mob wanting the game to get censored. Whats to say Sony doesn't cave in if the the outrage is large enough to give them lawsuits? GTA V was getting some for flak for "violence against women" because you could kill prostitutes. Red Dead Redemption 2 had some outrage because you could kill feminist. A player on youtube that uploaded a video of it got his channel taken down because of that.

A game getting a free pass on censorship because its popular enough is also unfair and demoralizing to smaller game studios. A game like Kingdom Come: Deliverance has sex scenes and would likely face censorship by Sony since it doesn't have an audience big enough to backlash Sony hard enough for it and the game was getting attacked gaming media because the studio is apparently "racist" for not putting Black people in the game. So gaming media would likely look for anything else in the game they could use as ammo to hurt the studio and starting some outrage over sex and nudity in the game is definitely a tactic they would do. Whats not to say that as a result games like Kingdom Come: Deliverance skip the Playstation platform? Japanese devs are already contemplating just going with PC and Switch for their games and already releasing those versions of their games well ahead of the PS4 versions.

To be fair, GamerGaters are notoriously known to be hardcore rapey pedophiles.

I don't blame Sony for this.

Why am I not surprised that the conservatives pedos in this thread are upset devs can't sexualize minors anymore or make rape sims.

After all, it's mostly GOP controlled states that vote AGAINST banning child marriage...

P.S. Roy Moore is polling high again in AL, you creepers should be quite elated.

Sexuality isn't creepy. Sexualizing minors is, which is why I wouldn't blame a console maker for blocking games about loli groping and all that shit. Cracking down on sexuality among adult characters in console games is overstepping the bounds, especially since there's a ratings system in place. Gaming is mature enough as a medium to have all kinds of content to explore as much as film. If Sony is extending to that, then it IS reductive.

Correct. Steam started doing the exact same thing, which, if we are being honest, they probably should have done from the start.

As technoligy progresses and the boundaries for entry lowering though subscription like services and cheaper, better types of VR tech, if anything sex games will become more mainstream. Trying to block that is just bad business in the long run. Others will prosper.

Deflection.

I was discussing the push back on sexualizing minors in video games and rape sims, in particular.

Not surprising some Conservative posters would be upset at such a thing, considering the GOP view on child marriage.

You literally just read the title and shit-posted. Basically.

No shame in it, I do it all the time.

Yup, pretty much all of your posts are trash.

At least we agree on something.

It's true, for sure.

Saying that, this is coming from a source where 98% of posts involve desperately crying about lord Trumpetta.

Any sense of irony is out the door.

I'm sorry you don't like factual subject data I discuss in another forum section. I'd be mad too if the facts weren't on my side. But please try not to discuss an entirely different forum section here.

As the great philosopher Benjamin F. Shapiro once said, "'facts do not care about your feelings."

@NoodleFighter: so Sony loses games and eventually dies. It's the road they want to take, the devs aren't held at gun point to make games on the ps4. If the switch or pc have to be the place for these games, so be it. Devs have a few options. Tone it down, or censored. Worst case, don't make a port. The ones that lose the most is Sony.
