That's a shame. It's a very bad time for releasing this kind of thing though. Sony themselves havent really shown much and VR is also a hard sell when demonstrated on a 2D panel.

Assuming Sony are serious about VR (and they are on their second headset...so someone at Sony HQ is clearly enthusiastic) maybe they should do what Nintnedo did when launching the DS and just set up loads of demo units around the world. Do a deal with retail stores to set up a more prominent demo unit and so on.

It's an amazing way to play many types of games and it's a shame it's not getting more support.

In terms of the overall VR Ecosystem it would also be good if Sony released their VR games on PC too and maybe even add PC support to the PSVR2 Headset. The latter may be a hard sell though if they are selling that hardware at close to cost.

That makes sense. They're pricing this thing too high. They'd get more preorders if it was cheaper than the PS5 itself.

They'd take too much of a loss in that case.

Sometimes, for the sake of adoption, you have to. At least MS knows that.

Huh, very surprised by this news. I find it hard to believe that they lowered production due to preorders because it is still almost a month away and they have done very little to advertise it. I've been waiting for Sony to ramp up advertisement for the PSVR2 but other than 2 minutes at CES and a couple of blog posts I haven't seen anything from Sony. It seems like Sony is relying on YouTubers to advertise for them (all the ones I see that have tried it have heavily praised it).

Anyway, I don't think this means it's DOA, just may be slower start than expected.

I'm reading that Sony has denied that they cut production. Might be fake news, but I'm waiting to hear from an official source.

The library is bad. Not good. If they open PSVR 2 up to PC support, the library is instantly better. But still, of all the VR games out there, a modest portion are actually good.

Agree, they should have opened it up to PC as well.

They are all dogmatically stuck in that "**** everyone" mentallty to the point of detriment.

They can't or rather won't open it up to PC because they are subsidizing its cost on PS5. Supporting it on PC means losing even more money on it without a way to recoup the costs like software sales cut etc.

PlayStation says it has "not cut PlayStation VR2 production numbers", following a report from Bloomberg.

The firm told GamesIndustry.biz that it is "seeing enthusiasm from PlayStation fans for the upcoming launch, which includes more than 30 titles such as Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Call of the Mountain, and Resident Evil Village."

The initial report said that Sony was making a significant reduction in its projections for PlayStation VR 2, and even warned supply partners that manufacturing could decrease as well.

Sony damage controlling already. People must be canceling their preorders after the leak.

Fair enough, take your word for it.

Not sure if this was posted yet, but this is not true:

Edit: zero_epyon beat me to it.

Thread title should likely be altered.

@Pedro: if you are referring to the lack of responses on this topic from Sony fans, Sony has already started that this news is not true. What more is there to discuss?

Take the L. This is the same source that said a Switch Pro was right around the corner. Whoever this source is doesn't get their story straight half the time. This isn't a leak, it's controlled FUD

They wouldn't need to halve production if they just released official support on PC for the headset. Console peasants can't afford or don't want to spend that kind of money on a VR headset on top of the price of a $400-500 PS5.

@mesome713: It is just a rumor. Some sources say they needed to cut production and demand was low. But Sony has a different view about it.
