$600 for this gimmick? No wonder. DUH.
It's actually a good price for the tech. Very good price. But on paper it doesn't look good when it's more than the PS5 itself. That's scaring a lot of people off, I bet.
Argued this for a while, but the problem is software.
Basically you have Facebook and Sony trying to carve their little fiefdoms segmenting and already bare-boned liberary sorely lacking expansion experiences like Alyx. Makes it a relivately risky puchase many consumers compared to something like a console.
Mean, do you really want to drop £600 on a headset to find out half the lib of games you can't play due to Facebook buying them all up? Stuck with half a dozen half hour games that feel more like a proof of concept.
Can't really blame someone for saying "**** that".
Valve had the right idea with Alyx. Use a big name IP, pour their wealth and and talent into it and sell thier own kit while simultaneously promoting the platform as a whole.
Use VR quite abit, most of the actual good stuff, ironically is old games converted imo. The best title of all being not Alyx but actually Halflife 2, 2004 game but feels like this is how it should be played (barring pukey driving).
Not one of these "VR_LE gimmick" types hoping for it to die. It's one of the actual exciting frontiers in gaming.

And yea, hardware problems still obv. Namely wire, price-point and confort.
They've kind of got around it somewhat with standlone headsets and the price has def dropped signicantly.
Valve is (supposedly) bringing out another headset and the Chinese are doing their own Quest 2.
