Seems Sonys gimmicky VR2 headset is off to a bad start. Many Sony fans were praising this new set as the VR savior, but it seems Sonys newest VR headset is yet another flop. High prices and no games to play, barely anyone is buying this thing and for good reason.

This is the kind of crap i wish stayed on other systems. Nobody is gonna develop games for VR, and sony supporting it with 1 game out of 10 feels like a massive waste of over $500. I also hate how this thing is guaranteed to take space in their tiny 30 minutes shows instead of showing what matter, which are games.

I just don't care about VR. Had a buddy bring his Meta quest VR thingy over to my place on new years. Was cool to mess around with on beat saber for like 30 minutes. But it messes with my eyes. Tried RE4, it was alright but I'd rather just play it normal on a couch with nothing on my face.

I feel like I'm in the majority on this. But maybe it's me who's out of touch. But the whole idea of strapping one of these things on your face and playing while moving your arms around or standing up just isn't appealing to me. I just can never see myself coming home after a long days work and wanting anything to do with VR gaming. but that's just me.

It's impressive (and expensive) tech launching at a time of global fears of a recession.

I'm not sure what Sony was expecting but I didn't anticipate it selling well when they announced the specs, and ultimately the price.

$550 is A LOT for a peripheral in a good economy. The only way to make it worth it is to make it a standalone unit.

I never played VR until 4th of July last year at a friends house and now I want to get PSVR 2 and the library of games at launch looks loaded but I know its not a good look for this to cost more than ps5 its self and even more so with how much everthing is costing right now with inflation and such. I wonder if this is true though because a 50% difference is massive. I get that some times things do less than companies expect/hope for but that is a major difference and this is the only report I have seen of this so far. Is this just another fake thing like having the console Vertical causing issues thing with ps5 was?

Like I said in the last VR thread before getting whataboutism from one or two people, it's over. VR never penetrated the AAA space. The vast majority of those games are still designed for TVs. Was too inconvenient to use and too expensive. Dumb in third person games. Alyx was cool.

PSVR2 really needs a killer app VR game if Sony really expects everyone to go buy the headset. And it would have also help if PSVR2 supports PC for that matter but oh well.

I'm sure it'll do fine but it's just gonna take time.

If Gran Turismo 7 turns out to be a quality product, unlike GT Sport VR, it is a killer app right there. 100 plus games got announced for PSVR 2, I’m looking forward to about 10 of those.

I already preordered. I'm hoping that the eye tracking tech will help with a higher definition focus. If it works the way it's described, it should feel more like how we sees things in real life. A lot of haters in here for VR, but who wants to keep playing on a flat tv all the time? I don't really care a whole lot about the controls. I could use a controller. I mostly like the escape from reality part of it. FPS games on a flat tv feels like playing with blinders on(the things horses wear at the track). Need peripheral vision.

If they want VR to take off, they're going to need to drop the exclusivity, walled gardens, and otherwise restrictive use of them.

PSVR will need to work with PC (at least), if MS get's involved they might have to cross over so it works with Playstation, and so on and so forth.

That's the nice thing about Valve; they made sure Alyx worked with all headsets (not just theirs) and that you can have their controllers and use another headset, or use their base stations and different controllers, and so on and so forth.

Publicly-traded corporations will be the death of all that we love.

^If I were to guess I would say it will sell as much as the first PSVR, which shouldn’t be that difficult.

PSVR 2 still has 6 years of sales ahead of it and it isn’t even out yet.

I should take my own advice with this: videos of VR games on gamespot, YouTube, etc. can’t do a VR game justice unlike when you have the headset on. I haven’t played my PSVR in a year because the wires, etc weren’t worth the hassle.

February 22nd can’t come soon enough.

Still need a mainstream use case for VR, nice for flight sims and driving games, other implementations remain limited.

It's a great tech but the problem is it's too expensive for cheap a$$ console peasants in a looming recession. The timing couldn't be worse for Sony. Then these idiots shot themselves in the foot by making it proprietary and try to segment an already small market by locking titles to it etc etc. Oh and it's not even backcompat with PSVR. Valve had the right idea and I hope they manage to release theirs soon.

@nintendoboy16: 'Well, VR is a dying gimmick, it seems.'

The Meta Quest 2 has been the item to get two holidays in a row. Everyone I know owns one...

Sony's headset is dead on arrival because it's launching with a bunch of half-baked shovelware and the steep price tag mixed with you already having to own a PS5 to use it. That's a $1100 buy in price.

People that are interested in VR either already own a standalone Quest or they have a headset tethered to a gaming PC. Console gamers game on consoles because it's cheap. A console plus the $600 headset is anything buy cheap.

This isn't sounding very good. I hope it does well enough to garner support. Releasing a peripheral that cost more than the main machine needed to use it, at a time of economical unsureness leads me to believe there will be weal sales at launch.

Nvidia launched the 4080 and 4090 series, again, doing just fine.

Nope, Nvidia are struggling to sell. GPU sales are down over 20%.

Apple cut corners on the M2.

- Heatsink is smaller

-SSD's are slower.

Their Iphone sales are massively down, and so will their new gen of macs.

Seriously? Strange reply.

That makes sense. They're pricing this thing too high. They'd get more preorders if it was cheaper than the PS5 itself.

It's good tech, but the price being higher than the console itself limits the userbase quite hard and with the limited userbase, who is going to make AAA games on it?

Not too surprising. Here in Canada the base is $750 and the Horizon bundle is $820. That’s a pretty big ask.

Argued this for a while, but the problem is software.

Basically you have Facebook and Sony trying to carve their little fiefdoms segmenting and already bare-boned liberary sorely lacking expansion experiences like Alyx. Makes it a relivately risky puchase many consumers compared to something like a console.

Mean, do you really want to drop £600 on a headset to find out half the lib of games you can't play due to Facebook buying them all up? Stuck with half a dozen half hour games that feel more like a proof of concept.

Can't really blame someone for saying "**** that".

Valve had the right idea with Alyx. Use a big name IP, pour their wealth and and talent into it and sell thier own kit while simultaneously promoting the platform as a whole.

Use VR quite abit, most of the actual good stuff, ironically is old games converted imo. The best title of all being not Alyx but actually Halflife 2, 2004 game but feels like this is how it should be played (barring pukey driving).

Not one of these "VR_LE gimmick" types hoping for it to die. It's one of the actual exciting frontiers in gaming.

-

And yea, hardware problems still obv. Namely wire, price-point and confort.

They've kind of got around it somewhat with standlone headsets and the price has def dropped signicantly.

Valve is (supposedly) bringing out another headset and the Chinese are doing their own Quest 2.

The library is bad. Not good. If they open PSVR 2 up to PC support, the library is instantly better. But still, of all the VR games out there, a modest portion are actually good.

I wonder if a PSP2 would fair better than a PSVR2?

Personally I think PSP2 would do better assuming they learned from Vita's mistakes. The new PS+ service could go well with a new Sony handheld.

Download PS1/PS2/PSP/Vita games, stream PS3/4/5 games.

Agree, they should have opened it up to PC as well.

They are all dogmatically stuck in that "**** everyone" mentallty to the point of detriment.
