Sony made the Vita overpowered.
It reminds me of the Dreamcast but more so. Dreamcast never got a chance to realise it's online function with multiplayer games that didn't quite get made.
But Vita is the opposite. Too much hardware. You don't need that kind of high definition polygon count and high resolution textures with such a small screen.
Take Wipeout. It looses the charm of the original because the vehicles are too detailed and the track textures are too grainy and art direction is not as strong as the first game. The bast game on Vita is Hotline Miami because it makes good use of the form of controls the Vita has. No-one ever figured out the touch pad. Their front facing camera was never used. This would have been good for putting your face into avatars.
In short, the graphics hardware was too expensive for what games work on a handheld.
2ds is the right amount of hardware - even running 2 screens, the gpus are never taxed for the level of graphics which is appropriate for games on a handheld.
Which is simple games like Plants vs Zombies, or Wipeout, but not with muddy textures and too much.graphical detail.
[update] Odin's Sphere for PS Vita look really nice so Vanillaware have been promoted to 'good studio' from 'hack' as I called them earlier.
But this list puts a 16bit style game at number 2, proving the Mega Drive has the best hardware for games of all time.
