The chief executive of the PlayStation business has insisted that the firm is pouring studio resources into projects for the acclaimed PS Vita handheld.

Following some complaints that Sony's E3 press conference featured little detail on PS Vita projects, Andrew House has told CVG that a healthy number of announcements are in the pipeline.
"We'll show [the new projects] when the time is right," he said in a new interview puiblished today.

"You can be assured that, whether it's first-party or third-party, there's a good raft of content in the works there," he added.

House, who was appointed SCE Group CEO one year ago tomorrow, said there were also many other services and apps that Vita will benefit from.

"I think at E3 we also showed that there's a commitment to broadening out network services other than games, whether it's YouTube or Hulu Plus, which aren't at the core of the PS Vita's offering, but provide additional convenience and fun," he said.

"If we were remiss on not spending enough time on the PS Vita at E3, I'll take that one under advisement, but you can rest assured it's not for the want of any sense of overall commitment," he said.

"We know that killer games are going to be what sells this device."

Elsewhere in the interview, House said that the profitable PlayStation division will help Sony as the entertainment empire fights to reverse a £3.6 billion annual loss.

"There's obviously a heightened sense of concern and urgency in the company, given the overall financial situation. I think amongst the management team, there is a feeling that a new team is in place. It's working extremely well together. I think Kaz [Hirai, former PlayStation executive and now Sony CEO] has been very clear about communicating that sense of urgency, and gone are the days when individual divisions' concerns would somehow overreach the major challenges of the organisation overall," house said.

Oh well that's good, and here I thought Sony was going to say that they have no new titles on the way and there's no reason to buy their product.

Of course games are coming. It's mainly dumbass fanboys who think the Vita won't be getting any new games. This happens with every system in its launch year.

All companies should hold back a console until there is a good consistent line of software for it.

They need to treat the early adopters with a bit more respect and make it worth while to early adopt.

No point in games coming out for a system by the time a price drop has happened.

This goes for the 3DS as well and maybe the PS3.

It wasn't so bad for the 360, because of the way it was designed, it at least had a lot of PC ports to tie it over for the first year.

I know with the Vita the trouble is they need to get the developers who jumped ship from the PSP due to piracy back on side, but they're selling it at a high price to the consumer with very little worthwhile content and no company should do this.

I would have been pissed if I spent a ton on a Vita and they announced jack at E3. It's not a joke, we're not children, don't tell me announcements are coming. They need to treat their customers like a business client who is about to jump ship if they don't come up with the goods. The same can be said about the 3DS too [upon release].

This practice of early hardware release has to stop from everyone.

They should have made it have access to the full android market as well as the games that Sony wants to develop for it. I'd have actually bought it then.

Price cut is just as important as the games. PS Vita is destined to become the Dreamcast of handhelds if they dont drop that ridiculous price.

I want the PS Vita to do well, but I'm adopting an 'I'll believe it when I see it' approach with the system.

They always are... hope it's in time.

Debatable whether they arrived in time for PS3. Hard to argue that if they came a little sooner on PS3 that PSP and Vita would have a better position.

As a person who currently works in a CEO's office, I can safely say that he is just replying with typical CEO bullcrap.

They also have their 1st party studios making games for the 3DS rather than Sony's idea to use B-teams for all of Vita's games.

Sony is the only one of the big three at tgs, if they fail there, all is lost.
