So what are the best PC exclusives? (Serious question)

I was talking to a PC gamer the other day, and I asked him what the best PC exclusives that aren't extremely old are. He then got extremely defensive and told me to "go look it up myself" and then said he bet I couldn't name that many good console exclusives (which I did with ease). So I am seriously asking, what are the killer app exclusive games on the PC that would justify me shelling out over a thousand dollars for one? Indie games that I can run on my laptop don't count btw.

Other than WoW, Starcraft (which I can run both of on my laptop), and all of the clones that try to emulate these games, I don't see much.

Well you have a laptop that can run games better than I can so I think you're already set.

Probably Shogun 2. An example of the sophisticated nature the platform (if this was designed with console in mind, it would be watered down). It also shows the technicality advantage of the pc. Most importantly, it's almost a masterpiece. Arguably the greatest Japan themed game.

The young console people they like to say "oh Uncharted 2 wowee it's like a actual real actual movie!" but that could easily be done on pc or any other platform. Shogun 2 is a mature game for mature pc gamers that are mature in nature. Aside from the simplistic control scheme and lack of horsepower to run it, publishers think the console people are stupid. With 20 million Call Of Duty sales, it's easy to see why.

Natural Selection 2, Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, the Total War series, the Company of Heroes series, the Dawn of War series, the Civilization series, the Stalker series, Dayz, Path of Exile, Torchlight 2, the Arma series, the Mount & Blade series, Myriad indie games which don't suck because you haven't heard of them...

@Jankarcop: Those aren't really top of the list types of games. There's those that will defend Starcraft until the day they die, but the era of the high profile PC exclusive in the vain of Half Life and Crysis are over. That being said, there's still plenty of reasons to PC game, the potential graphics and performance increases -- plus mods, which can elongate a game for years -- at the top of the list.

Unfortunately, last generation, the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 eliminated most PC exclusives. When Half Life went to consoles, it was all over. With that said, Half Life games will always be played on my PC, as that's where they're intended to be played. As will most first person, open world games, and of course, the still mostly-exclusive strategy genre.

@AzatiS: I don't see much. I see a lot of RTS games I can run on my Laptop. The fact that he named League of Legends and Dota...

PC doesn't have any games.

Why is it you are trying to pretend you're attempting to debate anything? Good grief you think anyone whos been on this board for more than a couple of weeks can't recognise a bait question which will be followed by bait answers.

I can tell you how these threads go.

1. Ask a question you already know the answer to.

2. Ignore the posts that prove you wrong

3. Seize on parts of posts you feel you can attack and focus on those, ignore the points that prove you wrong

4. Claim you're only asking a simple question and why are people attacking you.

5. Pretend that you're being victimised and that pretend no one has been able to answer your question successfully.

Seen it a 1000 times in various forms, but please keep on pretending you're asking a "serious question". No one believes it.

...how are they not legitimate answers. The OP doesn't mention anything about a metacritic score. Many of those are good games/experiences unavailable on consoles

good thing I play games, not scores. I've gotten more enjoyment out of all of those games (except Rome 2, its not great, I didn't specify that game though) than any of the ones you listed (which I played on my PS3 apart from Galaxy) apart from maybe RDR, that game is great.

If I were to stoop to your level of hiding behind MC scores, you ignored Company of Heroes which is 93 on MC, Shogun 2 which is 90(alongside several older Total War games which are MC 90+), Civilization V which is 90, and Path of Exile which is 85. Mind you I posted MY favorite games, not the highest scoring ones, I am capable of making up my own opinions on games unlike some people. But Hur Dur strategy games don't count because reasons, well IMO strategy games are better than Movie games.

Sure some console exclusives like TLOU and MGS 4 got higher scores, but you can bet your ass that if some random unknown dev released TLOU without any marketing, it would not have a MC rating of 95. MGS IV's popularity has always baffled me.

My friend, this is a very difficult question as the term "killer" can mean many things. Generally speaking, pc gaming is designed for a more mature audience seeking sophisticated gaming. Console gaming is primarily movie games. QTE with many cutscenes. Unless ported this genre is not very popular on the pc.
