We can use our gold coins to buy digital games? Turns out they are cheapskates. For 300 of your gold points you get $3 off your purchase. $60 games will earn you three hundred points but you have spend quite a bit to get up to a decent discount. So if you want even close to $10 off a game you gotta shell out $180 or hope they offer discount coupons like they do with Wii u and 3ds. I've Nintendo faithful for years but this sucks and so do they. They're about to make this girl buy an Xbox.

That's 5%, it's decent. Microsoft Rewards start at 1/2% (depending on if you gave Gold subscription), has 5 tiers until 5/10%, reward tier goes up with heavy spending, I get 10% back there now.

I think a couple years ago Sony announced a PSN reward credit card that offered just .5% or something pathetic like that for using it.

@lamprey263: That's cool and all but they make me feel like Xbox and PS4 has more to offer. And I love the sales we get on ps4 and Xbox game pass sounds awesome. I may have to rethink things, I was hoping to make switch my main console and wait for switch iterations of games to come out but now Iay not. Idk I guess I have mixed feelings about Nintendo lately.

This is Nintendo we're talking about. You implicitly agree to get gouged out the ass when you buy their consoles.

I don't get it. They're giving you a 5% discount. What's the problem?

I think the bigger problem is that the games are too costly. Indies regularly cost more than their counterparts on other systems, for example

@xantufrog: I can easily get 20% off at best buy without having to spend a huge amount of money. To get the same amount in the eShop I have to spend $240.

They lose out on so much sales because of overpricing there software to hell and back. If only they had someone capable at the helm.

the sales section of the eshop discounts a fair amt plus you can also use the gold coins on them. so you get a "double" discount lol

apparantly 3DS digital games are eligible for coins. however physical 3DS games are not! i have a lot of physical 3ds games.

It's pretty sappy reward system... It's as close to nothing as you can get while still be able to call it a "reward"...

Meh. I don't really see a point in getting upset over a free rewards system. There are so many other problems to focus attention on.

My Nintendo rewards have never been really that good to begin with, so I'm not shocked. Still it is better than nothing and, as far as I know, MS and Sony don't offer anything that good (outside of the paywall that is their online service). Once the paid online launches on Switch it'll have its own sales for members like Sony and MS already offer. So all in all... it's not that bad really. But definitely not something to get hyped/worked up over.

Have you double checked your gold points status? I was sure mine were going to be up soon, as I registered some games last summer. But it turns out only the silver ones seem to be expiring.

It's just the price we pay to play great games. I wish Nintendo had the integrity of a developer like CDPR but they don't. Their games are fun enough for me to pay this "tax" though. My primary console is the PC, but I still buy my fair share of Nintendo games (I currently own 6 for the Switch, all overpriced, but nonetheless fun).

Club Nintendo was waaaay better. You could do surveys and get points, there was even a goodbye gift edition.

Well the Switch is a newer system, so of course they don't wanna give away too much too soon.

It would be great if they had some sort of service where you get a few free games each month, then over time you'd amass quite the collection. I just think Nintendo is still really behind with online profiles and stuff yet.

Except it essentially is free. The game is $60 whether you get 60 coins with it or not. I'm not getting where it costs more to get the coins.

For me, it doesn't matter if these rewards are better than what XBox/Sony offer. The gold standard that My Nintendo is compared against is Club Nintendo, which was superior in every way. So many more choices, including physical rewards.

I wonder if that played a part in the decision. Japan always got the best physical rewards. They made North America's look paltry by comparison. But if the rest of the world didn't get those, moving to digital only rewards creates greater equity across the board. Given that the Switch market is split into relatively equal thirds - NA/Japan/Other - and their overall more global approach, this might have been the only practical solution.

No buy games=no get coins=no rewards.

Now unless you're saying I can get my gold coins without spending a dime it is not free.

@xantufrog: I'm aware of that but $3 is pocket change it won't even cover the taxes depending on the game and it's not often a the good games go on sale just the obscure ones unless the publisher is having a sale. Could easily have made it $5 or more off that's more helpful. I think you guys cut Nintendo too much slack. I love them but they deserve some criticism

@KBFloYd: you know, I have question for you. You say you got $12. Have you used it yet, and did it automatically apply or did you have the option not to use your gold coins. This discount seems to better if you let it stack up especially since the eShop charges taxes.

MyNintendo is a shit show. I'm so sad the old Nintendo Club is gone, and even more sad for believing them when they said the new reward system was going to be better...
