So in the end, I went with RTX 3090 over 3080.

Because rtx 3080 are cheaper, so the demand for them is too great to get one before 2021. So, in the end, I decided to go for 3090 as people bid less for those. It's the price of an early next gen I guess.

I managed to secure, here in Canada, one PNY GeForce RTX 3090 Graphic Card for 1550 USD because it was recently released, and scalpers didn't sniff it out yet. 1550USD is steep, but still better than current scalpers offerings of 1500 USD for a common RTX 3080.

So, if you desperately want an RTX and willing to pay extra, google PNY GeForce RTX 3090. As it was recently released, I am sure there will be small batches of it in your local regions.

Well, at least, Sony gamers have it way worse trying to get PS5 LOL

I just back-ordered an Asus TUF OC 3080 from Canada Computers, and had it in a few weeks. I also did the same for my 5900X and Asus Dark Hero MB, but those are still out there. TBH, I don't know of other stores doing back-orders.

I've been very happy with my PS5 so far, that I'm seriously questioning if I want to upgrade my gaming PC this gen. I'm still using a GTX 980TI lol.

Canada Computers are only taking orders in-store now.

PC Canada still takes online preorders, but they they increased their prices. I managed to get PNY RTX 3090 for 1550 USD, a few hours later, they increased the price to 1700USD.

Yeah, that's how I did my back-order. It's 20 mins away, but it's in my closest city, so I just pop in when i'm out there.

I got my 5900X for $730CAD before tax, and they upped it to $760 the next day. Newegg launched the 5900X at $800, so I went down that day as Newegg shit the bed. They also upped the 3080 AIBs as well, but it was after I placed my order.

Yeah, I was going to get an EVGA 3090 hybrid for 1800, but I missed my chance to buy one; however, I did get on the list to buy a 3090 Kingpin and it's only 200 bucks more, so I'll be going that route.

I want a 3080 really bad, I even upgraded my power supply, but I just can’t find one.

I don’t know why they’re so hard to find, even my PS5 was easy to get.

I really wanted to play CP2077 on a 3080

I could never see myself spending this much money on one component of my rig. Two years from now you will be upgrading even tho you won't need to.

980 is a solid card. I was using it for AC: Odyssey and some other demanding games not too long ago. No shame in using it still, it's a great 1080p card.

But yeah, definitely time for an upgrade :D

It's nice for you though because you get the extra satisfaction of actually needing an upgrade in addition to wanting one. Sort of like getting a new car after driving the same one for 10+ years, you know? It feels kind of like you earned that upgrade :D

Wait until you have a 3080 then. No need to play it right away. I already have a 3080 and I am not going to play it right away. I will wait for patches that will fix bugs and offer performance optimizations. Good things come to those who wait. :)

I ended up going with a less renowned manufacture for my 3080 (zotac). No regrets though, they had stock available unlike everyone else and it has performed well up to now.

Not sure a 3090 makes any kind of economical sense but it's your money.

All I have to say is that Its really sucks for me.... My GTX 1080 last friday died on me with almost 4 years under its belt.... Right now I'm using an old GTX 960..... The market just plain sucks in general..... low to no stock, inflated prices across the board on new and old gpus.

I still can't get one and I've been on Newegg many times when the the drops went live and still couldn't score a 3080. I will be camping out on my local Micro Center tomorrow and hope they get some 3080's for Monday morning.

Congrats man!!! Enjoy your card. I am loving my 3090 too! It is such a beast of a card and just chews up any new AAA game and really shines in VR. I too was going for a 3080 but was able to snag a 3090 in Oct. and said F it.....I know it's exuberant :) Performance is awesome.....especially underwater. I skipped out on the last gen of cards and CPU's so it's been a spell and I was due for an upgrade. Paired it with a 10900k but was originally on a 10850k. Intel upgraded me for free after my chip died 2 weeks after use.

Gave my old system (watercooled 6700k and GTX1080 on custom loop w/32G DDR4 and 2x1Tb Samsung SSDs) to my son. He is a console gamer and has really been bugging me for a year to build him a gaming PC. Figured that's a good start for a 10yo.

Happy Gaming on your new 3090 bud!

I'm waiting on a 3080ti. Something in between a 3080 and a 3090.

Also the RTX3090 is too big for me, it won't even fit in my full sized tower unless I start removing components

Congrats to you guys who got their 3080 or 3090. Hope you are enjoying them...;)

Meanwhile i'm still waiting for my 3080 (EVGA) i back-ordered at launch.:\ Called the retailer a week ago and while it's still being active/confirmed order, still no delivery date at all.
Seeing that in my country the current starting price for a 3080 went from 699 to whooping 1000 Euro for all the "vanilla" models, having a confirmed order for 750 Euro is at least somewhat comforting.

I looked up RTX 3090 the other day and while some of them were in stock, the price tag of 2000+ Euro is nuts, considering there's only like 10% performance increase over a 3080. However, to not sound so hypocritical, if i had the extra money to buy a 3090, i would not mind at all...xD

Yup, the dark side of high end PC gaming, lol. I usually only upgrade when my GPU is not good enough for my primary display's native res and refresh rate. The current one being 4K@120Hz, that's most likely gonna take a lot of upgrades/new builds in following years... xD

Hope you got a big enough case and power supply lol. That thing is an absolute monster of a GPU!

I'll upgrade eventually when things calm down. Rocking an RTX 2080 here and it's not even a year old yet. Going with a more modest 3070 probably.

Still plan to play Cyberpunk on my i7 8700 and RTX 2080 with RTX on. Probably run it in 'ultra performance mode' of DLSS 2.0 to use ray tracing.

Enjoy TC. May your frames be smooth and your visuals spectacular.

Given the current state of the market.....F it. why not? if you are going to splurge 1000+ on a 3080 may as well go the whole hog and go for a 3090 at MSRP if you have the cash.

It's just a complete mess.

I'm holding off until march/april next year. my 1500X and V64 still have some fight in them (in fairness with the games i'm playing at the moment they are working very nicely). By then hopefully things will have settled down and i can get a 5900X, X570Mobo, 32GB of ram and either a 3080 or 6800XT at more reasonable prices. i will also nab cyberpunk and star wars squadrons around then too.

the PS5 can wait until GT7 arrives. Thats my current plan anyway.

You can't answer a question with a question. You attack the guy and call him an idiot without knowing his financial situation. He readily admitted the price is "steep" so it's not like he just threw money at it without knowing its actual worth. He simply decided it was a worthy purchase for his needs.

If he had given some context more context as to his situation, you might have been right in calling him an idiot but instead, you just sound like a bitter and stupid fanboy. Which you are anyway.

I'm not sure if I can remove the HDD rack in bits, else I could just take out the side, and then a RTX3090 would fit :)

Oh just chill guys. Tormentos always overreacting lol. 1500USD is not my final expense, I also pre-ordered a new Ryzen 5800x. I am going to spend additional 1500 USD for a new PC build to match that GPU.

And no, I am not rich for North American standards. My income is above average. But as an independent incorporated contractor with stable income, I pay around 25k USD in taxes every year. Usually you can reduce your taxes by writing off your medical bills and business expenses. As I am blessed with a good health, there are not that many options for me but to write off my new gaming PC as a business expense, which is true, as i will use that PC for work and gaming. I mean, if you don't spend part of that tax money for something deductible you gonna give it away to the State anyway.

I could also buy PS5, but i doubt it will look convincing on my tax declaration as a business expense LMAO

A bit sparse foliage in one broken game VS. literally everything else in every other game (and even that one game in all other areas) looking and running vastly better.

Choices.

Not necessarily. My 2080 Ti that I spent a ton of money on is still relevant and basically matches up to a 3070. I could easily use it for a few more years, but I'm a supreme graphics whore. The same could go for a 3090, since it is like 15% more powerful than a 3080.

Not necessarily. My 2080 Ti that I spent a ton of money on is still relevant and basically matches up to a 3070. I could easily use it for a few more years, but I'm a supreme graphics whore. The same could go for a 3090, since it is like 15% more powerful than a 3080.

Relevant, yes, but people still upgrade because a new fresh toy is out.

Of course, but the choice is there to continue with it. If I ran into money issues, for instance, I could easily get by till maybe the end of the gen without upgrading.

But yeah, I don't have many hobbies that require money. I think gaming is really the only hobby(for me) that actually requires money to keep doing, so not a lot of expenses otherwise.

I got 2 sata SSDs as well, they are behind the motherboard, which case you got?

I got the 'Fractal Design Define R6 Tempered Glass Gunmetal'

ye then they rack should be removable, even just some parts of it if you want to keep, also at least the older models have ssd slots behind the mobo

Unless you're planning to do AI/machine learning work on that 3090, it's purely overkill.

In regards to VRAM, the card is overkill. In regards to actual performance, it is not. The card can not do 4K/120 max settings in any game. I think we can all agree that it is extremely overpriced for gamers though. It is a prosumer card after all.

The lack of cable management makes me feel really uncomfortable, lol.

@howmakewood: Thanks mate, perhaps next year when scalpers get hold of all the RTX3080ti cards, I will go for a (discounted) RTX3090. Hehe
